PORTAGE, Mich. (WILX) – While nobody in Michigan was lucky enough to claim the nearly $1 billion Mega Millions jackpot this weekend, somebody is now a multi-millionaire.
A player in Michigan matched all five white balls in Friday’s drawing. The ticket, bought in Portage — just south of Kalamazoo — had a 3X multiplier, making it a $3 million prize.
“The Mega Millions jackpot run brought excitement to Michiganders everywhere, especially the lucky player who won $3 million in Friday night’s drawing,” said Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli. “In all, players in Michigan won nearly $14 million in prizes during the jackpot run.”The lucky winner should contact the Lottery’s Player Relations division at 844-917-6325 to claim the prize. Mega Millions prizes must be claimed within one year from the date of the drawing.
With a jackpot of $983 million ($453.6 million in cash), Friday’s Mega Millions drawing was the 40th since someone had won the jackpot in late June. A player in Georgia matched all five balls and the gold Mega Ball.
While the Mega Millions prize resets, “jackpot fever” is already starting to build once again as the Powerball jackpot sits at $570 million with a cash value of $266.9 million ahead of Monday’s drawing.
