A 57-year-old woman was taken to hospital on Tuesday afternoon after an armed thief stole some cash from a lotto booth located on Triq Dun Karm in Birkirkara.
The police were informed at about 3.30pm about the incident.
The masked thief, armed with a knife, put his hand through the kiosk’s window and stole cash from the booth. He injured the employee as she struggled to stop him from stealing the money.
A police spokesperson said the injuries had not yet been confirmed and the woman was taken to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.
The amount of cash stolen is not yet known.
The man fled the scene and the police are still searching for him.
Magistrate Philip Galea Farrugia is leading an inquiry into the case.
Newsbook Malta is informed that a second robbery was reported from a lotto booth in Burmarrad.
This was confirmed by a police spokesperson who told this newsroom the report was filed at about 6pm.
