PORTLAND, Ore. — The Mega Millions jackpot has soared to an estimated $965 million, the Oregon Lottery announced Thursday, marking the largest jackpot since December 2024. That month, the prize reached $862 million before climbing to $1.269 billion, the fifth-largest Mega Millions jackpot ever.
Friday’s estimated jackpot ranks as the eighth largest in the game’s history. Since the current run began on June 28, Oregon players have won more than $4.3 million in total Mega Millions prizes, with 654,567 winning tickets sold. About a third of all game sales go toward state programs that support education, veterans’ services, economic development, and Oregon’s state parks.
Retailers also benefit from higher ticket sales and bonuses for selling winning tickets. A retailer that sells a $1 million winning ticket earns a $10,000 bonus.
Mega Millions tickets cost $5 and can be purchased until 6:59 p.m. on the day of the drawing. Drawings are held Tuesday and Friday nights.
The Oregon Lottery recommends players sign the back of their tickets and, for jackpot winners, consult financial professionals before claiming prizes.
