A Speedway in Des Plaines is the “luckiest” spot to buy lottery tickets in Illinois, according to data compiled by casino.org.
A grandma in Illinois won $3 million on a $30 scratch-off ticket she purchased in a western suburb of Chicago, Illinois Lottery announced Thursday.
The woman, who chose to remain anonymous under the name “Happy Grandma,” won millions on an Illinois Lottery Super Bonus scratch-off ticket she purchased at a BP Gas Station in Villa Park, located at 1 West St. Charles Road.

“I usually buy the Crossword scratch-off, but something told me to try something different this time,” said Happy Grandma. “When I saw the $3 million top prize on the Super Bonus ticket, I just knew it was meant to be. It felt like divine intervention.”
Happy Grandma said she first thought she had only won her money back when she began scratching off her ticket once she got home.
“But as I scratched more, I realized I had won the jackpot!” she said in a statement released by Illinois Lottery.
Happy Grandma then handed the winning ticket to her husband for confirmation, asking him “am I hallucinating?” she said.
The two “really lost it” when they confirmed the win by scanning the ticket with their phone.
“We screamed and screamed—it was like we were in shock for a while!” Happy Grandma said.
For selling the winning ticket, the BP Gas Station in Villa Park will receive a bonus of one percent of the prize amount, or $30,000.
A portion of the $3 million prize will go to help support Happy Grandma’s son, she said.
“I’m already planning for home improvements, holiday gifts, and a cruise for the grandkids.” Happy Grandma said. “This season is going to be one for the books—full of celebrations and a few spa appointments!”
