Defense led the way during the first half, with the Lions 0-for-6 combined on third and fourth downs, and the Eagles 2-for-8 on third down.
After just one score on the game’s first 13 drives, the half ends with three consecutive scoring drives to leave the score 13-6. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the celebration of Detroit’s touchdown by Jameson Williams might prove costly, as the 15-yard flag pushed the extra-point back after Detroit’s lone score, and the kick was missed.
Jared Goff has completed seven of his 12 passes for 119 yards, a touchdown and a tipped interception. For Philadelphia, quarterback Jalen Hurts is nine-for-18 for 63 yards.
The Eagles lead, 13-6, after appearing to score twice in the final minute of the first half. Af first, it looked as though Eagles running back Saquon Barkley had scored only his second touchdown run in the past six weeks.
A review had found that Barkley’s leg was down before he crossed the plane of the end zone, however. Philadelphia wasn’t kept out of the end zone for long, though. On the very next play the “Tush Push” run by Jalen Hurts scored for the Eagles. The extra point was good.
Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley muffed a read-option play with less than three minutes to play, only for Barkley to jump on the fumble. It was a big recovery, because on the very next play the Eagles burst a 17-yard run by Tank Bigsby down to the Detroit 23-yard line. Philadelphia is in position to take the lead again.
Five of Jalen Hurts’ first six completions were to star receiver AJ Brown, whose five receptions have gone for 32 yards. In all, Hurts has thrown 16 times and targeted Brown seven times. That’s a noticeable change from earlier in the season when Brown was frustrated by his lack of targets.
And just like that, this game is tied!
Detroit needed only three plays to go the length of the field for a touchdown. After a 34-yard pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jared Goff found Jameson Williams for a 40-yard catch-and-score.
Williams committed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after the score, however, and the Lions missed the extra point after moving back 15 yards.
It’s 6-6.
Philadelphia fans could be heard booing their offense near the midway point of the second quarter after the Eagles struggled to move the ball inside Detroit’s half of the field. Eventually, after yo-yoing back and forth thanks to big plays and penalties, Jake Elliott made a 34-yard field goal with 6:02 before halftime to add to Philadelphia’s lead. Nine plays to go 27 yards is not how Philadelphia drew it up, but it leads to points.
The Lions have yet to score with less than 10 minutes to go in the first half.
Detroit’s lowest-scoring first half of the season came all the way back in Week 1, when the Lions scored only three points in the opening 30 minutes of a loss to the Packers.
Jared Goff threw behind Amon-Ra St. Brown on third-and-2, and then the Lions attempted a fake punt on fourth down. The Eagles seemingly saw the play coming from a mile away, though, and stuffed the direct snap to Grant Stuard short of the first down.
Once again, Detroit fails on fourth down, and once again, the struggling Philly offense will take over in plus territory.
Philadelphia has gained two yards total on its last two drives — six plays in all. Its most recent drive yielded zero yards before a punt after a three-and-out with 12:38 to play before halftime.
How impressive was that Eagles’ stop on fourth down? The Lions entered tonight fourth in the NFL in fourth-down conversion percentage, succeeding on 72.2% of their fourth-down tries.
Philadelphia gets the ball back for its fifth drive, but three of its first four have ended in punts. The Eagles are averaging just 2.8 yards per play currently. Saquon Barkley has six carries but only 17 yards to show for them.
The Lions had a fourth-and-1 near midfield, and the aggressive Dan Campbell went for it.
Moro Ojomo stuffed Jahmyr Gibbs behind the line to gain, however, halting the drive and getting the ball back to the Eagles just inside Detroit territory.
One week after Detroit scored on every drive but one at Washington — the final possession, which the Lions simply used to run out the clock — the Lions have gone interception-punt-punt on their first three drives. The Eagles have held Detroit to 0-2 on third down.
Defensive struggle in the first quarter.
The only points of the game came via field goal, an Eagles kick that was set up by a Jared Goff turnover.
The offenses have combined for only 98 yards so far, with Detroit holding a 4.2 to 2.9 advantage in yards per play.
Philly will have a third-and-8 when the second quarter begins.
Detroit made it as far as Philly’s 40-yard line, but the Lions somewhat surprisingly opted not to go for it on fourth-and-6. Instead, the Lions took a delay-of-game penalty and punted.
The Eagles will take over from their own 15.
Lane Johnson, a multi-time Pro Bowl offensive lineman for Philadelphia, was seen walking gingerly to the locker room.
An NFL rarity just happened — the Philadelphia Eagles, masters of converting short-yardage opportunities for first downs thanks to their “Tush Push,” failed to convert on third-and-1 and were forced to punt.
Philadelphia didn’t run its famed quarterback sneak; instead it ran a disguised handoff, but the Lions weren’t fooled. Philadelphia is averaging 3.5 yards per carry tonight, but not on that drive.
The Lions went backward on their second possession — a run lost a yard before Jared Goff was sacked on second down. Goff threw an incomplete pass on third down and Detroit punted.
Slow start for the Lions’ offense, which has scored at least 34 points in five games so far this season.
A 27-yard field goal by Jake Elliott puts Philadelphia ahead, 3-0, with 9:43 remaining in the first quarter. The points came after the Eagles got a short field from intercepting Jared Goff.
Jared Goff entered tonight completing 74 percent of his passes, which would rank third in NFL history if it continued to the season’s end. Part of that success, of course, has been limiting his mistakes, and he had thrown only three interceptions before tonight. Make it a fourth after the tip-drill interception by Philadelphia.
On the Lions’ third offensive play, Cooper DeJean intercepted Jared Goff.
Jordan Davis tipped Goff’s pass at the line of scrimmage, and DeJean took advantage. The Eagles are driving deep in Detroit territory.
As Detroit gets the ball for its first possession, this will be the second game that head coach Dan Campbell is calling offensive plays. The Lions scored 44 points last week under Campbell’s direction, but that was against one of the worst defenses in the NFL. Tonight should be a tougher challenge, as the Eagles are allowing 21.3 points per game this season, 10th best in the league.
With Detroit missing much of its starting secondary tonight, its defense will have its hands full trying to stop the Eagles. The Lions held up well on their opening defensive possession, forcing a punt.
Aiden Hutchinson had the drive’s key play, forcing a holding penalty that set Philadelphia back.
This is a showdown between teams that, lately, have been perenially in the mix for the NFC championship. Since the 2023 season began, Detroit (33) and Philadelphia (32) rank first and second in wins among all NFL clubs.
Since the start of last season, including the playoffs, Philadelphia is 14-2 at home.
… And “Sunday Night Football” is underway! Very exciting matchup tonight.
Wind gusts could reach up to 30 mph in Philly tonight. That could be a factor in the kicking game for two teams who are already aggressive on fourth downs.
Jason Garrett explains to Maria Taylor and Tony Dungy what it’s like to call plays as a head coach, as well as how that affects other duties Dan Campbell still has to maintain.
With Sam LaPorta on the “wrong side” of questionable heading into Week 11, Kyle Dvorchak shares how fantasy managers should prepare lineups and who would be in line to step up in the tight end’s absence.
In his first season as an Eagle in 2024, running back Saquon Barkley was named NFL Offensive Player of the Year after leading the league in carries (345), rushing yards (2,005) and scrimmage yards (2,283) while scoring 15 total touchdowns (T-7th in NFL). Barkley became the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000+ yards in a season. Overall, his 2,504 rushing yards in 2024 were the most in a single season in NFL history, including playoffs.
This season, Barkley is averaging 64.3 rushing yards per game (16th in the NFL) — 61 fewer than he averaged last season. He’s rushed for 100+ yards in only one game this season, when he ran for 150 yards in the Eagles’ Week 8 win against the Giants. He had 100+ rushing yards in an NFL-leading 11 games last season. Barkley is on pace for 1,093 rushing yards this season, which would be 912 fewer than he had last season. It would continue the historical dip players have the season after they rush for 2,000 yards.
The Lions will have several of their players who were listed as questionable available for tonight’s matchup with the Eagles.
Left tackle Taylor Decker, right tackle Penei Sewell, receiver Isaac TeSlaa, tight end Brock Wright, cornerback Amik Robetson and running back Sione Vaki are all active after they were listed as questionable.

This season, QB Jalen Hurts has 21 total touchdowns (16 passing, 5 rushing) and just three turnovers (one interception, two fumbles lost). He is the first player in NFL history with 15+ TD passes, 5+ TD runs, and one INT or fewer in his team’s first nine games of a season.
After failing to throw a touchdown pass in either of the first two games this season, Hurts has now thrown multiple touchdown passes and posted a passer rating above 100 in five of the last seven games.
Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and Commanders defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw avoided ejections in last Sunday’s game between their teams, but both players have been fined for their actions.
St. Brown was on the receiving end of a punch from Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne, who was ejected for the blow, and Kinlaw said after the game that St. Brown initiated the altercation by striking Payne on an earlier play. Video from the game backed up Kinlaw’s assertion and St. Brown was fined $12,172 by the league.

Dating to last season, the Eagles have won 23 of their last 26 games (including playoffs). They have won 10 straight games in the month of November, with their last November loss coming in Week 10 of the 2022 season vs. Washington.
After starting this season 4-0, the Eagles lost back-to-back games against the Broncos and the Giants in Weeks 5-6. They have now won three straight games, with their 7-2 record.

Jay Croucher and Drew Dinsick discuss the Detroit Lions at the Philadelphia Eagles. Dinsick says this game is too close to call right now.
The Eagles, who won the NFC East last season, are the only team in the division with a winning record this season. Their 3.5-game lead over the Cowboys is the largest division lead in the NFL. No team has won back-to-back NFC East titles since the Eagles won four straight from 2001 to 2004. The current 20-year run without a repeat division winner is the longest such streak in NFL history for any division.
Each of the last two times Philadelphia won the division (2022 and 2024), it went on to reach the Super Bowl. The NFC East has sent multiple teams to the playoffs in each of the past four seasons (2021-24). This season, the three NFC East teams other than Philadelphia occupy three of the bottom six spots in the NFC standings.
Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown has had a frustrating season. After posting 1,000+ receiving yards in each of his first three seasons with the Eagles, Brown is on pace for a career-low 816 receiving yards this season (31 rec, 408 rec yds, 3 TD catches in eight games played).
Brown had his best game of the season in the Week 7 win at Minnesota, posting season highs in receiving yards (121) and TD catches (2). He missed the Week 8 win vs. the Giants with a hamstring injury before returning to face the Packers on Monday night, when he had just two catches for 13 yards. This season, Brown has had three games with two catches or fewer. He had four such games total in his first three seasons with the Eagles.
QB Jared Goff continued his excellent play in Week 10, throwing for 320 yards (second most this season) with three TD passes (tied for second most this season) and no interceptions. It was his third game this season with 3+ TD passes and no picks.
Entering Week 11, Goff leads all qualified QBs in both completion percentage (74.0%) and passer rating (117.7).
Maria Taylor, Jason Garrett and Devin McCourty preview how the Detroit Lions will look to keep rolling on the road against the Eagles in Philly.
Nine months ago, they were celebrating a Super Bowl win. In recent days, Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and receiver A.J. Brown got together for different reasons.
Sal Paolantonio of ESPN.com reports that Lurie and Brown met this week “to hash out the star wide receiver’s public frustration over his role in Philadelphia’s offense.”

Detroit has won the NFC North in each of the last two seasons, the first time it has won consecutive division titles in the Super Bowl era.
Since the realignment in 2002, the Packers are the only team to win three straight NFC North titles (Green Bay has done so three separate times since then, including four straight division titles from 2011 to 2014).
After scoring 28 points in their Week 7 win at Minnesota and a season-high 38 points in the Week 8 win vs. the Giants, the Eagles were held to a season-low 10 points in Monday night’s win at Green Bay. It was their fewest points scored since being held to nine points in the 2023 wild-card game at Tampa Bay.
While the Eagles rank 23rd in total offense, they rank 12th in scoring offense this season. They have still been able to score thanks to their league-best red zone offense, scoring a touchdown on 80.95% of their red zone drives this season.
Rodney Harrison, Tony Dungy and Jac Collinsworth take a deep dive into Dan Campbell’s decision to call plays in Week 10, evaluate why he felt the need to make a change and explore how the team proceeds.
In May, the “tush push” — pushing the quarterback after he takes the snap on quarterback sneaks — narrowly remained legal following a vote by the league’s 32 owners. The proposal to ban the play received only 22 of the 24 yes votes required to pass.
The Lions were one of 10 teams to vote against the ban. They are the only team on Philadelphia’s schedule this season that voted against banning the tush push.
