The Government of Karnataka has officially approved the renaming of Belagavi Railway Station to Shivabasava Mahaswamiji Railway Station Belagavi, as per a government communication dated November 5, 2025. The proposal has been sent to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, for final approval and notification.
The decision comes as part of a larger proposal to rename key railway stations under the Hubli Railway Division in the South Western Railway (SWR) zone.
Belagavi Railway Station (Station Code: BGM) is set to be renamed Shivabasava Mahaswamiji Railway Station. This renaming carries local cultural and spiritual significance, aligning the station’s identity with the heritage of Karnataka.
While Belagavi remains the highlight for regional commuters, three other stations across Karnataka are also part of this renaming proposal:
The Karnataka Government has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to issue the final notification. Once approved, Indian Railways will initiate the process of updating signboards, announcements, maps, and digital systems.

More updates will follow once the Centre notifies the name change officially.
