LANSING — Michigan’s personal income tax returns would mirror federal tax cuts for tips, overtime pay and Social Security, under the budget deal announced Sept. 25 by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and legislative leaders.
House Speaker Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, had described the tax cuts — which replicate campaign promises President Donald Trump made in 2024 and are included in the federal “One Big Beautiful Bill” — as “red lines” that must be included in any budget deal, during a Sept. 12 interview with the Detroit Free Press.
