Lyon County deputies warning of cryptocurrency scams – KVOE

KVOE News file photo.
As technology evolves, so do scams.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office says residents are getting calls from a “Deputy Williams.” The Sheriff’s Office isn’t giving specifics about the scam calls, but it says deputies will never tell residents to settle warrants by sending Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies. The Sheriff’s Office also says people should be wary of any calls from so-called government employees, bank employees or anybody else telling you to put money into crypto for safekeeping, debt repayments or warrants. If you get such a call, hang up and call local law enforcement and your bank.
The Sheriff’s Office has posted information links to the US Secret Service and Federal Trade Commission with items about scams in general and cryptocurrency scams in particular:

The Sheriff’s Office employs Deputy Eric Williams, but he is not involved in these calls.
