October is Bone and Joint Health Month.
We spoke with Dr. David Buchalter, from OrthoMaryland who highlighted the importance of maintaining bone and joint health through diet and lifestyle choices. He also shared valuable insights on how individuals can keep their bones strong.
"The biggest thing is keeping our weight in good check," he said. "When you're overweight, we tend to put increased load on our spine, on our hips, our knees — and that can lead or aggravate osteoarthritis, which is one of the biggest bone and joint health problems."
He also said, "When you have aches and pains beyond the normal sort of that we all get — but it persists, it lasts for a couple of weeks, or it's becoming more intense or more frequent — one of the most important things is to come in to an orthopedic surgeon."
