The Mississippi Lottery Corporation announced its profits for the state for the month of August.
The lottery said it transferred more than $10.5 million to the Mississippi State Treasury. So far this fiscal year, the lottery said proceeds to the state total more than $19 million.
The MLC said August was an exciting month for players with the Powerball jackpot climbing higher than $1 billion.
The lottery said the $10.5 million will go to the State Highway Fund, which will support road and bridge projects in the state.
Once state lottery funds hit $80 million, the proceeds then go to the Education Enhancement Fund, which helps fund early learning collaborations, the Teacher Supply Fund, and critical technology upgrades to the Mississippi Student Information System.
