Tsunamis as high as 17cm (6 in) have been recorded in Indonesian waters, the head of Indonesia's earthquake and tsunami centre said.
"We call it a minor tsunami," he said, referring to waves that peak at 0.5m.
Based on data from Indonesia's seismology agency, tsunami waves ranging from 3.5cm to 17cm have been recorded in Talaud Islands, North Sulawei.

Local disaster agency of Manay town has not yet received reports of casualties but some students fainted when the earthquake hit.
Richie Diuyen, a disaster staff, says still feels dizzy after the quake that lasted for nearly a minute.
“I am still scared and shook. We couldn’t believe how strong the earthquake was. This was the first time I have experienced that,” she tells the BBC.
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr has called for evacuations in some coastal areas in the central and southern Philippines.
Search and rescue and relief operations will be deployed as soon as it is safe to do so, he says on Facebook, external.
He urges all people in affected regions to move to higher ground and to stay away from the shore until the authorities declare it is safe.

Last week, a magnitude-7.0 earthquake struck the coastal city of Bogo, in Cebu province. It killed 74 people and injured more than 500.
The country is also located in a region prone to typhoons.
At least 11 have died after Severe Tropical Storm Bualoi swept small islands in the centre of the Philippines. Hundreds of thousands of people were forced to evacuate.
Super Typhoon Ragasa, the year's biggest storm, barrelled through the Philippines' northern Cagayan province in September.

Meanwhile in Indonesia, authorities have urged people to "remain calm and avoid spreading or believing unverified information".
"Stay away from buildings that are cracked or damaged due to the quake.
"Inspect and ensure that your home is structurally sound and free from earthquake-induced damage before re-entering," the nation's Meterology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency said in a statement.
It added that it has not received any reports of damage thus far.

In the southern Philippine province of Davao Oriental, its governor says people panicked when the earthquake struck and buildings were damaged.
"Some buildings were reported to have been damaged," Governor Edwin Jubahib told local broadcaster DZMM, Reuters reported. "It was very strong".
In 2012, hundreds in the province were killed in the aftermath of Typhoon Bopha.
The Philippine seismology agency is warning of a "destructive tsunami" with " "life threatening wave heights".
Its expecting waves to surge more than one metre above normal tides, and even higher "on enclosed bay and straits".
As we reported earlier, the agency is expecting the first tsunami waves to arrive before 11:43 local time (03:43 GMT) and may last for hours.
State broadcaster PTV just published photographs of the chaotic scenes outside a hospital in Davao City showing patients and staff rushing to evacuate after the earthquake hit.

The first tsunami waves may arrive before 11:43 local time (03:43 GMT) and may last "for hours", Philippine authorities say.
The country's Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has asked residents living in coastal areas of affected provinces to “immediately evacuate to higher grounds or move farther inland.”
Phivolcs also advised boat owners to secure their vessels and move away from the waterfront.
“Boats already at sea during this period should stay offshore in deep waters until further advised,” it added.
We've just seen an alert from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, warning that tsunami waves could reach up to 3m (10ft) above normal tide levels along some coasts in the Philippines.
Waves may reach up to a metre above normal tides for some coasts of Indonesia and Palau.
Tsunami warnings have also been issued in Indonesia's northern Sulawesi and Papua regions, more than 300km away from the earthquake's epicentre.
Indonesia's geophysics agency says these regions are under threat.

Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, a popular and controversial transgender in Nigeria, has described how he became a crossdresser.
In a recent interview with Charly Boy, Bobrisky makes a key disclosure concerning his transition to woman. 
Bobrisky said that his adventure into crossdressing began as a clever business strategy while selling unisex apparel as an undergraduate at the University of Lagos.
According to him, he had no clue that this seemingly innocuous action would lead him to an entirely different character.
Despite his parents’ initial reservations, Bobrisky stated that he gradually gained the courage to be true to himself and fully accept his identity as a transgender woman, crediting his parents for allowing him to express himself freely and live genuinely.
In his words:
“About nine years ago, I was at the University of Lagos studying Accounting. I also had a side hustle, I was selling unisex clothes. Most times I try the female wears on myself and I love the outfits.
“From there, I moved to female hairstyles to makeup and more women were patronizing my business. So I decided to keep crossdressing since it was lucrative.
“I wasn’t thinking I was going to do it for a very long time. Initially, it was just a marketing strategy but people were complimenting me that I look better as a woman than a man. That’s how I ended up being Bobrisky.”

DENVER — The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is spreading awareness about an increase in fires from lithium-ion batteries, which have become increasingly popular to power common household items, like laptops, phones, tools, and toys.
This year’s National Fire Prevention Week is focused on educating people on how to safely use, charge, and recycle devices with lithium-ion batteries.
Steve Gosselin, the division chief of fire prevention at North Metro Fire Rescue, said firefighters are responding to more fires caused by defective or damaged lithium-ion batteries.
“There are things that never used to have batteries that now have batteries: bicycles, scooters, cigarettes, you name it, there’s probably a battery in it,” said Gosselin. “The desire to have batteries that are smaller, last longer and charge more quickly has pushed everyone into the realm of lithium-ion batteries.”
He said damaged lithium-ion batteries may overheat, catch fire, or even explode. Gosselin said to safely use devices with these batteries, make sure to use the charger that comes with the device and unplug the product when it’s fully charged.
“Oftentimes, you’ll get a product and it’ll come with one charger. So a lot of people will want a charger in their car or in their bedroom or downstairs in their kitchen, in their TV room,” said Gosselin. “It’s important, though, to get the correct charger for the device you’re charging.”
He said to only buy devices that have been tested by a recognized lab to make sure they meet safety standards. You can check the product for the lab’s certification mark.
Lastly, Gosselin said to properly recycle devices with lithium-ion batteries instead of throwing them in the trash. Not only can the batteries harm the environment while in a landfill, but Gosselin said they pose a fire risk if the battery is mechanically damaged.
Gosselin said fires stemming from lithium-ion batteries can be especially hard to put out because crews have to apply water directly on each of the battery’s cells, which are encased in a housing.
“It’s treated almost like a hazardous material situation, so we do need full PPE head to toe, self-contained breathing apparatus, which are our masks, because we’re not sure exactly what kinds of products of combustion are coming off of that battery,” said Gosselin.
North Metro Fire Rescue hosted a fire safety open house at Station 61 in Broomfield on Saturday. Families toured the fire station, were trained in performing CPR, and learned about lithium-ion battery safety and kitchen safety.
The fire district is hosting another open house and cookout at Station 62 on Huron Street in Northglenn from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11. Firefighters will be there to teach families about fire safety, and people can recycle old devices with lithium-ion batteries.
