Lottery winner funds Chichester centre for vulnerable adults – BBC

Steve and Lenka Thomson won the £105m EuroMillions jackpot in 2019
A builder who won £105m on the National Lottery has funded and helped create a new centre for vulnerable young adults.
Steve Thomson, from Selsey, West Sussex, scooped the EuroMillions jackpot in 2019, vowing to give back to his local community.
On Friday, the 48-year-old opened a new permanent building for the charity Together Our Community (TOC) in Chichester.
"I knew exactly where I wanted to help after I won," Mr Thomson said.
The father-of-three added: "A few friends have sons and daughters with autism and other learning difficulties, and there was nowhere in the area for them to congregate safely, learn skills and make friends.
"As soon as they turn 18, they are completely forgotten about unless they're lucky enough to get a funded place in college.
"Even so, parents are left totally isolated and often have to give up their own jobs to support their kids.
"It's a real struggle and heartbreaking to hear their stories."
A spokesperson for the charity said the funding would "transform our ability to support young adults with disabilities to live, learn and work".
Mr Thomson said: "At first I helped TOC in a small way, buying a second-hand minibus to take the young people out for work experience with local businesses, volunteering activity and fun daytrips."
Steve Thomson has funded a new centre for vulnerable young adults in Chichester
Mr Thomson said he found a near derelict building in the middle of Chichester and poured his energy and resources into transforming it into the perfect base for the charity.
Across three floors, the new centre has a sensory room, an open-plan classroom and a training kitchen and cafe where the young people can learn how to cook and develop skills in hospitality.
Hilary Freeborough, from TOC, said: "When Steve said, 'I've found the building for you', we genuinely felt like we had won the jackpot ourselves.
"The support he has given us is incredible.
"He didn't just write a cheque. He has been here throughout, from planning the layout to ensuring we had the right circuit breakers, and the leaves were swept."
Fellow charity founder, Louise Collins, added: "Steve is so humble but we keep reminding him that his commitment to supporting us and the passion he has shown will be life-changing for so many young people."
Mr Thomson – who still visits his old village to meet his friends at the local pub – claimed his motivation came from a childhood spent volunteering alongside his father, Peter, a self-employed window cleaner.

Euromillions winner bags £157million jackpot after scoring every winning number – Daily Star

One lucky player has scooped the Euromillions jackpot of £157 million by correctly guessing the five winning numbers and the two lucky stars following Friday's draw (November 28). The player has been identified as someone living in France, who is now hundreds of millions of pounds richer.
Since the first draw in February 2004, hundreds of EuroMillions jackpot winners have been crowned across all nine participating countries. The largest prize for Euromillions this year, a staggering £218 million, has been won three times by players from France, Ireland and Austria, but the top prize has so far eluded the UK.
The biggest UK win occurred in 2022 when an anonymous player bagged a life-altering £195,707,000. The EuroMillions jackpot reached its limit of 230 million Euros ahead of the draw on Friday 8th July, where it remained until Tuesday 19th July when one lucky ticket sold in the UK claimed the entire prize.
The winner quickly collected their money, but chose to remain anonymous. Had the jackpot not been won in this draw, a Must Be Won draw would have taken place in the subsequent draw.
This victory comes just months after Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucester won £184,262,899, catapulting their net worth to a level similar to that of pop sensation Harry Styles, according to the Express. This jackpot set a new record for the biggest-ever win in the UK at the time, after skyrocketing to €215 million (£184 million) in just seven and a half weeks in the spring of 2022.
A €130 million Superdraw had been planned for late April, but it was effectively delayed as the top prize already exceeded this amount. The jackpot would have reached its €230 million cap with one more rollover, but a UK ticket holder matched all the numbers on 10th May.
The jackpot was claimed by Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucester. They revealed that they continued to work on the day they discovered their win, and chose to go public so as not to 'burden' others with keeping their secret.
The numbers drawn in the National Lottery EuroMillions on Friday were: 05, 29, 33, 39, 42. The lucky stars were: 03, 09.
The Millionaire Maker Selection number was also decided as XXGW96165. On top of this, Friday's National Lottery Thunderball winning numbers were: 06, 08, 11, 29, 32.
The Thunderball was 03. The next Euromillions draw will be held on Tuesday, December 2, with a reduced jackpot of £14.9 million.
