Halloween is shaping up to be a night of spooky fun as neighborhoods in Lee County light up with spectacularly terrifying displays. 
But the Lee County Sheriff’s Office is emphasizing the importance of safety for trick-or-treaters.
Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno shared some essential tips to ensure a safe Halloween for everyone.
“Parents should make sure their children are walking in groups,” said Marceno. “They should also be safe on the roadways. They should be mindful that when walking on a dark roadway, they should be aware of not only vehicle but also pedestrian traffic.”
Drivers should be particularly cautious of children on the streets. The sheriff’s office also recommends that people wear bright, colorful clothing or carry flashlights when trick-or-treating, as this can help make them more visible in the dark. 
Parents are also advised to check their children’s candy to ensure it is adequately sealed and safe to eat.
Otherwise, Sheriff Marceno said deputies will be out in full force to ensure a safe environment for all. 
“We’re going to have extra patrols everywhere,” he said. “We’re going to create that omnipresence so people can see us, visible. Also on the other side, undercover operations, undercover detectives, plain clothes, you know, undercover vehicles, drones, utilizing technology to ensure that everybody is safe during this holiday.”
Deputies, in partnership with state authorities, will also conduct sex offender and predator checks. 
It’s important to note that registered sex offenders are prohibited from giving out candy, and their homes will not have lights or decorations.
As trick-or-treaters flood the streets, safety remains a top priority in Lee County.

These two coins have some large overlaps, but one is better to own.
Both Bitcoin (BTC 0.34%) and Zcash (ZEC +4.75%) were engineered to be scarce. They also keep their designs relatively minimal, without the general-purpose smart contracts you hear about on other chains. In fact, Zcash has one main privacy-preserving innovation that Bitcoin doesn't have and is otherwise a copy.

Let's start by evaluating the investment thesis for Bitcoin. Its supply is capped at 21 million, and its issuance, as mediated by miners, keeps slowing after its halvings, such as the most recent one in April 2024. The point is that an asset with a fixed supply and growing demand tends to see its price go up over the long run. Or at minimum, its purchasing power with respect to fiat currency will remain relatively stable.
Aside from that, another big part of the argument for buying Bitcoin is that it's now a mature asset that financial institutions want to hold and asset managers want to offer to their customers. In January 2024, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved multiple spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs). That decision made Bitcoin accessible to the brokerage and retirement accounts used by a vast swath of investors. Furthermore, it's clear that regulators and even the Federal Reserve are now on board with the idea of the digital asset being a common store of value.
Public awareness is another edge that investors shouldn't neglect. Bitcoin remains crypto's household name, with the largest market capitalization by far, making it easy for institutions and individuals to initiate and scale positions and, thus, lowering the barriers to onboarding more capital. Investors should, of course, not confuse widespread familiarity with safety, but its distribution breadth, liquidity depth, and improving market infrastructure are all tailwinds for a long-term scarcity asset like this one.
Zcash's proposition is a bit different despite sharing its supply dynamics with Bitcoin. In short, it lets users transact privately if they choose.
On a technical level, that capability is powered by zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs called zk-SNARKs, but don't worry too much about what those concepts are. The more important thing to focus on is that these privacy-enhancing features are a real advantage versus Bitcoin, which does not and cannot offer actual privacy features to transactors.
The coin's performance has also been impressive lately. Zcash's price is up by 860% during the past six months, after a long period of doldrums, amid an uptick in interest in privacy coins.
But here is the problem for investors: Privacy features typically clash with financial regulators, who view them as covers for illicit activity.
That makes privacy coins, including Zcash, at high risk of struggling to find crypto exchanges willing to list them, and it points to large (and, on average, unresolved) regulatory or legal overhangs. Major venues have restricted or delisted privacy coins at various times, including actions that have affected Zcash in the past.
Some jurisdictions, like South Korea, are so skeptical of the entire category that they've banned them from being listed on exchanges entirely since 2021 or badgered exchanges to delist them until they complied, as in Japan. And in the E.U., privacy coins, including Zcash, will be banned after mid-2027 if the current set of anti-money laundering (AML) regulations are put into practice as planned.
These moves ebb and flow, but the risk for these privacy assets is not receding. Thus, it puts a ceiling on the amount of growth coins like Zcash might attain if their plans go as well as possible. Meanwhile, both Bitcoin and Zcash share a scarcity model with a 21-million-coin cap, so Zcash cannot differentiate itself on monetary policy alone.
Zcash could still capture an enduring niche where privacy is a must-have. It may also benefit from periodic sentiment waves that favor privacy. But the base case still shows a narrowing set of on-ramps for prospective buyers and persistent policy hurdles.
Therefore, Bitcoin is by far the better buy for most long-term investors today. It offers the same core scarcity idea, with a much better brand, and a regulatory trajectory that is broadening access rather than narrowing it. Zcash remains an intriguing specialized asset for those with strong views about financial privacy, but its path to becoming crypto's default privacy provider is not clear today, and it may never be.

The odds are very much in this coin's favor, but there are still a few complications.
Toward the end of 2028, the XRP (XRP 2.47%) Ledger (XRPL) might be a very different chain than it is today, and there are big implications for those who hold the coin or who are considering buying it.
Let's map out where it will be in three years to shed some light on why that's the case.

During the next three years, XRP is going to get bigger. Its network will add more features that financial institutions actually use, building up more on-chain capital in the form of stablecoins and other assets, and staking out a clearer role in moving and holding in custody tokenized real-world assets (RWAs). The foundation of this process is something boring that the chain already excels at: regulatory compliance.
The XRPL currently offers features to asset issuers so that they can authorize who holds their tokens, freeze misused money, and design stablecoins with explicit enforcement flags rather than stitching controls together with disparate smart contracts. These design choices make transaction settlement rules predictable and lower-risk for regulated players, specifically big banks, which lowers friction for onboarding them. And with the regulatory piece of the puzzle addressed, XRP is thus better positioned than other options.
Furthermore, stablecoins on the chain are going to continue to scale up, including Ripple's own tokenized cash equivalent, RLUSD (RLUSD 0.04%). More stablecoins means a larger liquid capital base for institutional investors to access and transact in the sizes they prefer. For now, RLUSD's market cap is about $908 million, but that will change as Ripple issues more of it in response to demand.
Importantly, the increasing size of the stablecoin base on the blockchain will also enable tokenized real-world asset custody and flows at larger scales, too. RWA flows begin and end in fiat currency or fiat-like instruments. Ripple has been explicit about making RWAs native to the network, embedding compliance and settlement at the asset level rather than relying on interim special purpose vehicles. That aligns with what XRPL already offers and also with what regulated asset managers want.
And, while there is only $362 million in tokenized RWAs on the XRPL right now, the fact that asset managers can handle their compliance needs natively will heavily incentivize them to park their assets on the chain. Expect a lot of growth stemming from RWA management.
Despite XRP's bright future owing to the factors described above, its next three years will also force it to confront some unprecedented challenges, most of which relate to its competitors.
New blockchains targeting financial institutions are popping up left and right. Stripe's freshly announced Tempo chain is purpose-built for stablecoins and global payments, with the ability to pay fees in existing stablecoins. That is a direct strike at the very use cases XRPL has long prioritized. The fact that Tempo is being built by a leading fintech underscores how seriously this competition should be taken.
Alphabet is also entering the fray with its Google Cloud Universal Ledger (GCUL), a financial-grade, institution-facing chain aimed at capital markets and tokenized finance pilots. If GCUL becomes a default option for enterprises already embedded in Google Cloud, it will pressure every existing chain competing for those customers.
And that's before even acknowledging today's incumbents, which are quite powerful. Ethereum remains the deepest venue for tokenized assets and stablecoins, while Solana's speed and low costs continue to attract payments and fintech experiments, as well as collaborations with major financial businesses like Western Union. The takeaway is that the future will probably feature a smorgasbord of different chains specializing by client need, geography, and local regulation; multiple winners are very likely, and XRP is likely to be one of them even if its competitive environment is quickly becoming very crowded.
Therefore investors should set their expectations accordingly. It is likely that XRP's features, first-mover advantage, and tight focus will win additional institutional users, more on-ledger capital, and a growing slice of tokenized assets. It is unlikely that any single chain, including XRPL, absorbs a majority of enterprise tokenization or compliant stablecoin flows once Stripe, Alphabet, and crypto incumbents are all in the ring.
In other words, strong growth for XRP is probable, but a 10-fold gain from here would require capturing an extraordinary market share against very capable rivals who are almost certain to make that unlikely. Three years from now, the most realistic picture is an XRPL with more features, more asset issuers, and more institutional users, competing in a crowded, fast-growing RWA and payments market. That's a pretty good setup for investors, even if the coin isn't going to go to the moon.
