An eyewitness who was on the train at the time of the incident says passengers were left in "pure panic" as bleeding victims called out for help.
Olly Foster told the BBC he initially heard people shouting "run, run, there's a guy literally stabbing everyone", and believed it might have been a night-after-Halloween prank.
Within minutes, people started pushing through the carriage, and Foster noticed his hand was "covered in blood" as there was "blood all over the chair" he had leaned on.
An older man "blocked" the attacker from stabbing a younger girl, leaving him with a gash on his head and neck, Foster said. Passengers around him used jackets to try to staunch the bleeding.
He added that the only thing people in his carriage could use against the attacker was a bottle of Jack Daniel's whiskey, leaving them "praying" that he would not enter the carriage.
Although it lasted 10 to 15 minutes in total, Foster says the incident "felt like forever".

Huntington MP Ben Obese-Jecty told the BBC that he arrived at the scene of the Cambridgeshire train stabbing just after 21:00, where he was met with a "really significant emergency services presence".
He said that the attacks aboard the train took place after it left Peterborough station.

British Transport Police have confirmed to the BBC that those responding to a mass stabbing on a train near Huntingdon at one point declared "Plato", which is the national code word used by police and emergency services when responding to a "marauding terror attack".
This declaration was later rescinded, police said.
We reported earlier that police have now declared a "major incident", and the investigation is being supported by counter-terrorism officers.
For those who are just joining us, it's been almost six hours since police first received reports of multiple stabbings aboard the 18:25 service from Doncaster to King's Cross.
After receiving that call at 19:42, a large number of emergency responders attended the scene at Huntingdon Station in Cambridgeshire, where the train made an unscheduled stop.
Police have since confirmed that nine people are in hospital with life-threatening injuries. A tenth person is being treated in hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident, and are currently in police custody.
The investigation is being supported by counter-terrorism officers, and police say that trains are still not running in the area. There are also a number of road closures that remain in place.

In an update from British Transport Police, Chief Superintendent Chris Casey called the stabbing attack a "shocking incident", but said he was unable to speculate on the cause.
"Our response is ongoing at the station and will be for some time," he said, adding that trains were not currently running in the area and road closures would continue.
As we reported earlier, ten people have been taken to hospital, with nine of those patients suffering "life-threatening injuries".
Police said that they have declared a "major incident" and the investigation is being supported by counter-terrorism officers as they work to establish a motive.
"It could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything further," the chief superintendent said, before thanking the public for their "patience and co-operation".

I've been speaking to a man who was standing on a platform at Huntingdon station as the train approached at around 20:00.
London Underground worker Dean McFarlane tells me he saw the train pull in with a passenger onboard bleeding.
McFarlane says that on arrival, he saw multiple people start running down the platform bleeding, with one man in a white shirt "completely covered in blood".
He says he grabbed people and told them to leave the station, and tried to assist passengers who were having panic attacks.
We are now getting more pictures from the scene in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where a significant emergency response is still underway.
We still don't know how many people have been injured in the incident, but police confirmed that "a number of people" have been taken to hospital.
We can bring you some eyewitness testimony from a person who was on the train that stopped in Huntingdon following the stabbing incident.
Wren Chambers first became aware that something was amiss when a man bolted down the carriage with a bloody arm, saying "they've got a knife, run".
Wren and their friend ran to the front of the train and saw a man who had collapsed on the floor. Wren said they felt "stressed and pretty scared" once they knew what was happening.
They were able to get off the train unharmed.

BBC Verify has authenticated a video of the aftermath of the stabbing incident near Huntingdon.
The video, filmed on a bridge on Brampton Road overlooking Huntingdon's railway station, shows a stationary train while a number of police officers run down the platform.
We've just received a statement from Cambridge Police, who confirm that at 19:39 local time they received reports that multiple people had been stabbed on a train.
"Armed officers attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two men were arrested. A number of people have been taken to hospital," the statement says.
"The incident remains ongoing, and the A1307 has been closed as you approach the town centre."
We're now hearing from Conservative party leader Kemi Badenoch, who says in a post on X she is "deeply disturbed by the reports emerging from Huntingdon".
This is an absolutely horrific attack and my thoughts are with all those affected including the emergency responders at the scene."

LNER has urged passengers to cancel or defer travel where they can, but says a limited number of services are running for those who were already travelling.
Passengers are able to use their tickets on the following services without incurring extra cost.
LNER notes that other services are likely to be busy, and they are working to get trains moving again "as quickly as possible".

We've just received a statement from a spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service.
They confirm that they received a call at 19:39 GMT to reports that "multiple people had been stabbed on a train".
“We mobilised a large-scale response to Huntingdon Railway Station which included numerous ambulances, tactical commanders, our Hazardous Area Response Team and critical care teams including the East Anglian Air Ambulance and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.
“We can confirm we have transported multiple patients to hospital. Further updates will be issued by British Transport Police.”

A former Suffolk County computer technician who was arrested in 2021 in connection with a cryptocurrency mining operation in the county clerk’s office has pleaded guilty to two felony counts, according to court records and the Suffolk District Attorney’s office.
Christopher Naples, 46, of Mattituck, who had been on paid administrative leave since his arrest, pleaded guilty Thursday to grand larceny in the third degree and official misconduct, according to the records.
His arrest stemmed from search warrants executed in August 2021 that found 46 cryptocurrency mining devices hidden in six different rooms at a county data center in Riverhead, Newsday has reported, including under removable floorboards and an electric wall panel. The devices put such a demand on the county’s electrical system that they set off alarms after raising the datacenter’s temperature by 20 degrees.
Tania Lopez, a spokeswoman for District Attorney Ray Tierney, on Friday said Naples' plea "represents a just outcome in a case where the defendant stole approximately $6,000 in electricity from Suffolk County."
Two other charges, of computer trespass and public corruption, were dropped as part of the plea, which also required that Naples resign from his 25-year government position. He also must make "full restitution to Suffolk County, and pay the county an additional sum of approximately $70,000 to cover costs and expenses related to this investigation," Lopez said in an email.

Naples "will also be forever barred from working in another government position in the State of New York," Lopez said.

Naples' lawyer, William Keahon, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
During the four years the charges have been pending, Naples, who was first hired by the county in 2000 at age 21 and rose to assistant IT manager of the clerk's IT department, received an annual salary of between $147,502 and $150,065, according to state payroll records. In addition to salary during that time, he would also have received county medical benefits, sick and vacation day accruals approaching $100,000 and credits for a pension as a 25-year county employee.
Michael Martino, a spokesman for Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine, said, "We are pleased that Mr. Naples has been held accountable for his actions. Those who would improperly use taxpayer-funded resources for personal benefit should be on notice that their actions have consequences." Romaine took office in 2024, and has implemented a series of computer system reforms since then.
Newsday in 2023 reported that elements of Naples' cryptocurrency operation were known to officials in the county Department of Information Technology as early as 2017, but nothing was done to stop it. In court records, one employee, Christopher Rizopoulos, who worked for Naples in the clerk’s IT department, told detectives investigating the case, "I wanted to notify someone. However, I was really concerned about repercussions from Chris Naples. I didn’t want him to seek revenge."
The case against Naples was held up by a massive cyberattack on Suffolk County’s computer networks in September 2022, and suspicions by some public officials of links between the Bitcoin mining scheme and the larger breach, which shut down many county systems for months. But no direct links were ever established.
Naples' name came up repeatedly in hearings and testimony in a Suffolk County Legislature investigation of the cyber breach begun in 2022, but in the end the report blamed primarily a long list of known system vulnerabilities and a "failure of leadership," Newsday reported.
"However," the final report noted, "it has been plausibly suggested that Mr. Naples was distracted from his work by the Bitcoin mining and, thus, may not have been taking appropriate steps to maintain and upgrade the County Clerk’s IT environment prior to his September 2021 arrest, which may have contributed to the threat actors gaining access to the County’s environment."
At a December 2022 news conference, former County Executive Steve Bellone suggested that Naples, "the architect of the clerk’s IT environment," delayed implementation of a vital security upgrade for the clerk’s system because, the theory went, Naples feared it could lead to discovery of the Bitcoin mining.
Naples’ lawyer, Keahon disputed that theory at the time, charging that Bellone will "do everything he can to shift the blame."
Lopez of the district attorney’s office on Friday said it "bears stating that, contrary to public statements by prior county officials, there is no evidence that this defendant’s actions were in any way connected to, or responsible for, the cyberattack on Suffolk County government in September 2022."
The prosecution of Naples was begun under former Suffolk District Attorney Timothy Sini, who in announcing the arrest in September 2021, said the county "will not tolerate county employees, who are already on the public payroll, to steal taxpayer money and illegally use government resources for the own personal gain."
Newsday reported that Suffolk’s former cybersecurity coordinator testified he suspected Bitcoin mining was taking place in the data center in 2017, and other employees discussed seeing and photographing the equipment in the months before Naples’ arrest.
"Within hours of the devices being shut down, the temperature in the room dropped 20 degrees," Sini said in 2021. "So not only was this operation being paid for with thousands of dollars of taxpayer money, but it also put the county’s infrastructure at risk. The defendant also had to bypass the county’s internet security protocols in order to get these devices online, which could have potentially jeopardized the security of the county’s network," Sini said in 2021.

What does the future hold for XRP?
Up more than 400% this year, XRP (XRP +0.06%) could easily continue its rally over the next year. The regulatory cloud once hanging over Ripple, the token's creator, has lifted, and now Ripple is pursuing a national bank charter. If granted, this would undoubtedly add legitimacy in the eyes of investors.

The bull thesis for XRP hinges on banking adoption. More institutions using Ripple's technology should theoretically mean more demand for the token — and higher prices. The key assumption here is that banks need to acquire XRP to use Ripple's products, but unfortunately for XRP bulls, they don't.
RippleNet, Ripple's flagship product, works perfectly well without the need for banks to touch XRP. And while its other primary product, On-Demand Liquidity (ODL), does incorporate XRP as a bridge asset, it remains a comparatively niche solution for liquidity-constrained institutions. The larger banks that actually matter haven't adopted it widely, which severely limits its impact on XRP demand.
And the issue could get worse. Ripple recently acquired a stablecoin payment firm for $200 million; Ripple's national banking charter application, while it appears bullish, indicates to me that Ripple is interested in making stablecoins a central focus. It's entirely possible that use of its stablecoin RLUSD could erode demand pressure for XRP further, making RLUSD the preferred bridge asset in ODL transactions.
So while XRP might surge in the short term, for investors looking for lasting returns, look elsewhere.
