ELGIN – (Release from the Elgin Lions Club) Nur and Meagan Sofe recently expressed appreciation to the Elgin Lions for their assistance with their daughter’s cochlear implant and hearing aid.  The Elgin club joined another Lion group to help pay for expenses above insurance cost. According to Nur, “We truly appreciate it, and it makes a big difference to our family.”
Search and Rescue members Shanna Arbogast and Nick Vora presented a program on the history, concept of operations, area profile and other data pertaining to the Union County Search and Rescue program. 
Vora, who serves at the Union County SAR Coordinator, stated that, in the l960’s, a CB radio club began operations. Most calls, he noted, were for lost hunters and mushroom pickers. The non-profit SAR is now embedded within the sheriff’s office and uses modern equipment with approximately 40 volunteers on hand. The group covers the county population of 37,000 with roughly ½ public land. He noted eight counties now send members to La Grande for training.  In addition to initial certification, specialty teams for rope rescue, water rescue, cadaver and trailing techniques are available.  Funding for the program comes from grants, the sheriff’s office budget, emergency management, and volunteer fundraising and donations. To this end, the club elected to make a contribution of $500 for the organization.
The Elgin Light Parade will be held December 6^th and wind up at the Stampede grounds, where the club will serve the community a chili dinner.  
President Pat McDonald announced that over 40 community members attended the last sessions of BINGO, held each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Center.

The EuroMillions jackpot of £157 million has been won by a lucky player in France. The lucky winner correctly guessed the five winning numbers and the two lucky stars, landing themselves the eyewatering sum of money.
There have been hundreds of EuroMillions jackpot winners crowned since the first draw in February 2004, with all nine participating countries enjoying success. The largest prize of the lot has been £218 million, which has been won three times this year. The largest UK win came in 2022, when an anonymous player won a life-changing £195,707,000.
The EuroMillions jackpot reached its limit (at the time) of 230 million Euros ahead of the draw on Friday 8th July, where it remained until Tuesday 19th July when one lucky ticket sold in the UK scooped the entire prize.
The winner claimed their money quickly, but no more information was released as they decided not to go public.
If the jackpot had not been won in this draw, a Must Be Won draw would have taken place in the subsequent draw.
This win came just months after Joe and Jess Thwaite from Gloucester won £184,262,899, giving them a greater net worth similar to that of music heartthrob Harry Styles.
This jackpot set a new record for the biggest-ever win in the UK at the time, after soaring to €215 million (£184 million) in the space of just seven and a half weeks in the spring of 2022.
A €130 million Superdraw had been scheduled for late April, but it was effectively postponed as the top prize was already worth more. One more rollover would have pushed the jackpot to its €230 million cap, but a UK ticket holder matched all the numbers on 10th May.
The jackpot was claimed by Joe and Jess Thwaite of Gloucester. They revealed that they still went to work on the day they found out, and decided to go public because they did not want to ‘burden’ others with having to keep their secret.Tonight’s National Lottery EuroMillions winning numbers are: 05, 29, 33, 39, 42.
The lucky stars are: 03, 09.

Mega Millions winning numbers are in for the Friday, Nov. 28 drawing with a jackpot that reached an estimated $80 million ($36.9 million cash option).
The winning numbers for Friday’s Mega Millions drawing are 6, 7, 13, 39, and 48, with Mega Ball number 4.  
No one won the Mega Millions jackpot.
The next Mega Millions drawing is Tuesday. Drawings are held at 11 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday.
In New Jersey, in-store and online ticket sales are available until 10:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
Mega Millions costs $5 to play.
Mega Millions retired its Megaplier feature and now has a built-in multiplier that increases non-jackpot prizes by two, three, four, five or 10 times. The multiplier is automatically included in every play.
The odds of matching the five white balls and Mega Ball to win the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 290,472,336.
You can watch Mega Millions drawing on YouTube. The winning numbers are also posted to the Mega Millions website and on the New Jersey Lottery website.
A jackpot winner has the option of taking an annuity or cash payment.
The annuity is paid out as one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments, according to the Mega Millions website. Each payment is 5% bigger than the previous one.
“This helps protect winners’ lifestyle and purchasing power in periods of inflation,” according to the Mega Millions website.
The cash option is a one-time, lump-sum payment that is equal to all the cash in the Mega Millions jackpot prize pool.
If two or more people win the jackpot in the same drawing, the money is shared equally among all winning tickets.
