Gary Warren Jr. of Rural Hall lay in bed Friday morning playing digital instant games when all of a sudden his voice changed dramatically when he won a $520,690 jackpot.
“I just started walking around the house with a really high-pitched voice,” he laughed.
Warren played for $5 and won the top level “Alakazam” jackpot in The Lamp: Dark Arts, a digital instant game featuring a progressive jackpot that can be won at any time. The odds of that win were 1 in 12.9 million.
“I called my wife to tell her and when she heard my high-pitched voice, she knew that I won,” Warren recalled.
He claimed his prize Thursday at lottery headquarters. After required federal and state tax withholdings, he took home $373,597.
Warren, a football coach for over 20 years, plans to use his winnings to invest, buy his daughter a car, and donate some money to the youth football organization that he works with in Pfafftown.
In The Lamp: Dark Arts, a player can play from 50 cents to $30. After Warren won the jackpot, it restarted at $100,000 and stands at over $123,000 as of Thursday afternoon.
Digital instant games are played exclusively online on the lottery’s website or on the NC Lottery Official Mobile App. Fifty-nine different games are available to play online now.

The Powerball winning numbers are in for the Wednesday, Dec. 3 drawing with a jackpot that reached an estimated $775 million ($362.5 million cash value).
The largest winning Powerball jackpot ticket sold in Michigan was worth $842.4 million and sold in January 2024 at Food Castle in Grand Blanc.
The winning numbers from the Wednesday, Dec. 3 drawing are 1, 14, 20, 46 and 51. The Powerball was 26. The Power Play multiplier was 3x.
No one won the Powerball jackpot. A ticket sold in Kentucky matched the five white balls and had the multiplier to win $2 million. Tickets sold in California and Florida matched the five white balls to win $1 million.
The next Powerball drawing is Saturday, Dec. 6. Drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
In Michigan, in-store and online ticket sales are available until 9:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
Powerball costs $2 to play. For an additional $1 per play, the Power Play feature can multiply non-jackpot prizes by two, three, four, five or 10 times.

The overall odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
Powerball drawings are broadcast live every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee. Drawings are also lived streamed on Powerball.com. The winning numbers are posted to the Powerball and Michigan Lottery websites.
In-store Powerball purchasers can select the Double Play option to use their numbers in a second drawing immediately following the regular Powerball drawing for a chance to win additional prizes up to $10,000,000. Players can add the Double Play feature to their Powerball ticket for an additional $1 per play.
The Powerball Double Play drawing takes place between 11:30 and 11:40 p.m.
The Power Play multiplier does not apply to prizes won in the Double Play drawing.

A convenience store in Union City, Hudson County, sold the winning ticket for the $90 million Mega Millions jackpot on December 2, 2025. The ticket matched the numbers 17, 25, 26, 53, 60, and the Mega Ball 16.
The store, named Garden State News and located at 4024 Bergenline Avenue, identified the winning ticket, earning store owner Krish Patel a $30,000 bonus. If the winner opts for a cash payout, the amount would be nearly $41.99 million before taxes.
Patel, who has owned the store since 2014, learned of the win early Wednesday morning and expressed excitement for the winner and the broader community. He stated, “It’s great for the player, for us, and the community.
Now, we’re one of the lucky stores, too.” The announcement drew attention from local officials, including Union City Council member Maryuri Martinetti. Notably, this latest win adds to the excitement in Bergenline Avenue, a location that has seen nine lottery wins this year alone, four of which were at Bergenline shops.
The New Jersey Lottery Director, James Carey, highlighted the significance of retailers in the lottery business, calling them the “heart and soul” of the industry.
For this particular drawing, New Jersey witnessed nearly $5 million in Mega Millions sales, contributing over $2 million to support the public employee pension fund. This win marks New Jersey’s 26th Mega Millions jackpot since the game’s inception.
The recent win in Union City comes shortly after a Georgia player claimed a staggering $983 million prize on November 14. The next Mega Millions drawing is set to start at $50 million on Friday, sustaining Union City’s reputation as one of New Jersey’s luckiest lottery locations.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — After someone won a $90 million jackpot Tuesday with a lottery ticket bought in Hudson County, the NJ Lottery noted that several other winners had bought their tickets on the same street.
A player who bought a Mega Millions ticket in the Hudson County town of Union City matched six numbers on Tuesday night to take home the jackpot.
The ticket was purchased at Garden State News, on 4024 Bergenline Ave. in Union City.
“The Bergenline,” as some affectionately call it, runs through the three most densely populated cities in the country, which have among the highest populations of Cuban immigrants. Two of the towns are also considered among the poorest in the state.
According to NJ Lottery, which held a press conference at the shop on Tuesday, nine lottery players have won prizes this year in Union City.
Of those nine, four bought tickets in shops on Bergenline Avenue, which runs through Union City, West New York, North Bergen, and Guttenberg. Besides the jackpot, those prizes ranged from $10,000 to $260,000, said a spokesperson.
The winning numbers on Tuesday were 17, 25, 26, 53 and 60. The gold Mega Ball was 16.
Garden State News will receive a $30,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket, said lottery spokesperson Michael Boone on Wednesday.
“I just found out this morning at 6:30 that we had a winner,” said Krish Patel, the store owner since 2014, at a lottery press conference on Wednesday. “It’s great for the player, for us and the community.”
The NJ lottery has not revealed information about the winner yet.
“I’m so happy for Union City and Bergenline,” said Union City Council member Maryuri Martinetti, who attended the news conference with fellow council member Celin Valdivia. They noted that former State Sen. and Union City Mayor William Musto was one of the New Jersey Lottery’s founders.
“Hudson County has had more than 50 winners of prizes of at least $10K” in 2025, said Boone. “So that means the Bergenline street in Union City accounts for nearly 20 percent.”
How did one street get so lucky?
“You can safely credit that to population density along with blind luck,” Boone told Patch. “Also, keep in mind that while this is one (very long) street, all the retailers are unique, except for the 7-Eleven, which has had two.”

GRATIOT COUNTY, Mich. (WNEM) – A Gratiot Co. man is now $250,000 richer after finding out that his KENO! prize ticket was a winner.
The lucky winner, who chooses to remain anonymous, matched 10 of the 22 numbers drawn to win the game’s $250,000 top prize, the Michigan Lottery said.
“I have been playing KENO! every day for years, but this specific set of numbers I started playing about six months ago,” said the winner.
The ticket was bought at the Meijer gas station in Alma located on 7420 North Alger Road.
“I checked my ticket by scanning it at a lucky spot scanner and got a message to file a claim, which I’d never seen before. My wife looked up the winning numbers, which is when I found out I’d won $250,000,” the winner said. “Winning a large lottery prize like this is a wild feeling, but also a huge blessing!”
The man intends to use his winnings to pay for bills and buy a new car.
