It has been quite the season already for Alban Hysa's side who finished as runners-up in the All-Island Cup and have been quite impressive in the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division. Now, they have a shot at securing glory on Sunday, October 19th in Tallaght Stadium.
A 2-0 victory over Treaty United in the Semi-Finals propelled Bohemians to this grand stage but they have been building towards this moment with Hysa establishing a good blend of youth and experience in the squad and encouraging a style of play that maximises their speed and skill.
Led by captain Rachael Kelly – who is one of the finest goalkeepers in the women's domestic game – and backed up by stalwarts like Lisa Murphy, Katie Lovely and Fiona Donnelly, The Gypsies are a tough team to break down defensively and they use the ball well to set their attacking talent free.
When in full flow, Bohemians are a joy to watch with Sarah McKevitt, Hannah Healy, Aoibhe Brennan, Kate McCann, Leiagh Glennon, Hannah O'Brien, Katie Malone and Alannah McEvoy proving to be their main threats up top. They have players all around the pitch who can wreak havoc and finish when in front of goal – something which Athlone Town will be fully aware of.
There have been 24 different winners of this competition. Can Bohemians make history to become the 25th?

ATLANTA—CNN and the Georgia Institute of Technology today announced the launch of the CNN Academy Sports Journalism Bootcamp and Simulation, a two-week immersive program designed to prepare the next generation of storytellers for the fast-paced world of sports media.
From May 18–30, 2026, approximately 160 participants from across the United States will convene on Georgia Tech’s and CNN’s Atlanta campuses for an expansive, deeply immersive two-week study and training program. Hosted in partnership with CNN and Georgia Tech’s Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts and School of Literature, Media, and Communication, the program offers hands-on editorial training, real-time newsroom simulations, and masterclasses led by professionals from CNN and TNT Sports. Participants will be thrust into a simulated breaking news environment, during which they will work in teams to practice skills spanning news gathering, mobile journalism, ethical decision making, and the role of technology in news.
Alongside the launch of the CNN Academy Sports Journalism Bootcamp and Simulation, Georgia Tech is also deepening its commitment to sports media and interdisciplinary education with the launch of two new academic minors that explore the intersection of sports, society, and business.
The partnership brings together CNN’s global expertise in journalism and Georgia Tech’s strengths in technology and storytelling—an intersection that reflects the evolving nature of modern media and the skills needed to succeed within it.
“We’re extremely excited to bring our successful CNN Academy newsroom simulation program to the United States for the first time. CNN specifically sought out Georgia Tech because of its students’ unique combination of technical expertise and creative storytelling,” said Mike McCarthy, Managing Editor, CNN Worldwide. “This partnership will provide participants with hands-on experience that mirrors the real-world intensity of a newsroom and prepares them for the kinds of challenges they will encounter in a professional career.”
Open to upper-level undergraduates and emerging journalists, the program offers both residential and commuter options.
Georgia Tech’s School of Literature, Media, and Communication first partnered with CNN Academy in 2024, when 20 Georgia Tech students took part in immersive newsroom simulations in Abu Dhabi and Dublin. Four of those students are now helping design the May simulation, bringing their firsthand experience to the next cohort. Several recent Georgia Tech graduates have gone on to intern or work full-time at CNN.
This initiative complements Georgia Tech’s academic expansion in sports-related studies, including:
“At Georgia Tech, we believe technology and storytelling are inseparable tools for shaping the future,” said Amanda Murdie, Dean of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. “Through programs like the CNN Academy Bootcamp we give participants hands-on training and interdisciplinary expertise—along with a front-row seat to how journalism is evolving and how they can lead that change.”
Applications for the CNN Academy Bootcamp are now open. Details can be found here.

After a pair of impressive wins in the Players Era men’s championship, No. 17 Tennessee makes the trip to upstate New York to meet Syracuse in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Tuesday.
The Volunteers demolished Rutgers and took down No. 3 Houston in their second game in Las Vegas before being knocked off by Kansas 81-76 in the third-place game, losing a 12-point lead in the process.
“The guys that want to learn from this will do it,” Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said to the Rocky Top Insider after the loss. “And they’ll get better and move forward, but it’s not going to get any easier, which is the way it should be.
“But too many scouting report breakdowns, things we had talked about. Again, you can talk about we only had a day, but we’ve got enough guys that can understand that. But (Kansas) deserved to win the game because at the end, they did what they needed to get done and we didn’t.”
Tennessee freshman forward Nate Ament, who scored 20 points in the loss to the Jayhawks, has been averaging 17.9 points a game for the first eight (all starts).
The Vols (7-1) have been guided by the play of senior guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie.
A native of Greenville, Tenn., Gillespie transferred home after a year at Maryland and is scoring a team-high 18.5 points and shooting 35.3% from 3-point range.
“We can’t get where we’re putting everything on him,” Barnes said. “Some of those other shots that you’ve got to come up with or get fouled when you’re certainly struggling from the three. But you look at the stat sheet, too many guys, honestly, didn’t do the things that they need to do to help us win.”
Syracuse (4-3) also was in Las Vegas but came back empty against Houston, Kansas and Iowa State. The Orange lost all three games at the Players Era tournament, including a 31-point setback to No. 15 Iowa State on the last day last Wednesday.
“We’re very disappointed that we couldn’t get the results that we wanted,” Syracuse coach Adrian Autry said. “But in today’s game, in your nonconference, you’ve got to put yourself in position. The last 20 minutes is not who we are.”
There was bad news for the Orange when they arrived in Las Vegas. Sophomore forward Donnie Freeman, the team’s leading scorer at 17.8 points a game, showed up in a walking boot and did not play in any of the contests in Las Vegas. Autry has been coy about his status moving forward.
Freeman suffered a Jones fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot during his freshman season and it eventually required surgery. A Syracuse spokesman said that the two injuries are not related.
Freshman guard Kiyan Anthony, son of former Syracuse great and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2025 inductee Carmelo Anthony, has tried to pick up the scoring slack. Kiyan Anthony averages 11.9 points over seven games (two starts), but he was held to 24 total in three contests in Las Vegas.
Tennessee will be the third ranked opponent Syracuse has faced this season. The Vols are averaging 85.9 points while allowing 65.4 per game this season. The Orange are averaging 74.9 points while yielding 65.3 per game.
