Michael McKen of Durham took a chance on a $20 scratch-off and won a $2 million top prize.
McKen bought his lucky 100X The Cash ticket from Light House Food Mart on Buck Jones Road in Raleigh.
When McKen arrived at lottery headquarters Tuesday to collect his winnings, he could choose to receive the prize as an annuity of $100,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $1.2 million. He chose the lump sum of $1.2 million and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home $861,006.
The 100X The Cash game debuted in January with four $2 million top prizes and six $100,000 prizes. Three $2 million prizes and four $100,000 prizes remain to be claimed.

They put the big winning tickets in big cities that are fully industrialized versus the small town they do this because it don’t take a lot of money to help a city that’s already booming I never seen a lottery like this one

Four 2 million dollar prizes and by what the NCEL will claim is sheer coincidence the first winner was found in Wake County. Out of 100 counties nobody is going to convince me that top prize winning tickets are not being intentionally sent to Wake. They may claim to have no way of knowing exactly where the tickets are going, but they know they’re going to somewhere in Wake County and it’s usually Raleigh.
