Nigeria’s love for Jollof rice reached a new height between September 12 and 13, 2025, when more than 20,000 people gathered in person and millions more joined online to witness a record-breaking culinary celebration. The event showcased Nigeria’s Asun Jollof rice and earned Gino the distinction of becoming the first Nigerian brand to hold a Guinness World Record, symbolizing the country’s creativity, resilience, and unity.
At a press conference held at GBFoods Nigeria’s Lagos headquarters, the company highlighted its commitment to promoting Nigerian cuisine and celebrating local flavors, while also showing how Jollof rice continues to captivate a global audience. The achievement drew celebrities, dignitaries, and food enthusiasts worldwide, transforming a simple meal into a story of heritage, shared joy, and national pride.
Vincent Egbe, Managing Director of GBFoods Nigeria, described the milestone as a natural extension of Gino’s innovative history.
“We are proud to have achieved this historic feat alongside Hilda Baci,” he said. “Over a decade ago, Gino pioneered tomato paste in sachets, and we’ve continued to innovate with products that keep the authentic taste of Nigerian cooking alive like our Gino Asun seasoning cubes and tomato paste, and our Gino Peppered Chicken seasoning cubes and tomato paste. This world record isn’t only about scale; it represents our dedication to originality, creativity, and pride in Nigerian culinary traditions.”
Marketing Director Oreoluwa Atinmo reflected on what the celebration means for households across the country.
“This achievement amplifies everything Gino stands for,” she explained. “For decades, we’ve been a trusted name not just in Nigeria but across Africa. Our tomato range is iconic, and this milestone also shines a light on our other innovations, such as Gino Asun seasoning cubes and Gino Peppered Chicken seasoning cubes. It even gave us the perfect moment to introduce maxi packs of Gino Party Jollof, Gino Peppered Chicken, and Gino Asun tomato pastes for large-scale cooking. More than anything, this record reaffirms our commitment to excellence, quality, and continuous innovation in delivering authentic local flavors to families everywhere.”
Chef Hilda Baci now a global ambassador for Nigerian cuisine spoke passionately about the cultural meaning behind the record-setting recipe.
“Growing up, Jollof rice wasn’t easy for me to perfect; something always seemed to be missing,” she recalled. “Over time, I realized Nigerian Jollof is more than rice it’s an experience. The combination of Gino Party Jollof, Gino Asun, and peppered chicken pastes captures the essence of who we are. Gino’s dedication to innovation allowed me to push boundaries and show the world that Nigerian food is as global as it is local.”
By achieving this Guinness World Record, Gino strengthens its standing as a pioneer in Nigeria’s food industry while honoring tradition, encouraging innovation, and bringing people together through a beloved national dish. The event has attracted widespread acclaim at home and abroad, spotlighting Nigeria as an international food destination and reaffirming Jollof rice’s place as a cultural icon.
