“So it was won at this Publix?” asked Hayes, who was surprised to hear the news.
The ticket was bought at Publix on Highway 29 in Newnan. The player matched all six numbers from Friday’s drawing, hitting the largest jackpot in Georgia’s history.
Shoppers were happy to hear the news.
“Hopefully they do the right thing,” said Adam Gardner, shopper. “That’s so cool that it was bought here. I do stop by here but not very often. I might have to stop by here more often though.”
He is wishing the winner the best and that they can consider being gracious to the Coweta County community.
“Putting some back, I think, give it to your local churches would be the best option for sure because you can’t take it with you when you go,” said Gardner.
Besides investing in his businesses, giving back is something Gardner said he would do if he won the cash.
“Invest, give to the church, and support some family, and businesses, local businesses, kind of get us caught yup around here because everybody deserves it with the hard times right now going on,” he said.
“I think that they’ll do the right thing and give back to the community for sure,” said Gardner.
Publix will receive a $50,000 retailer incentive bonus. Proceeds from the Georgia Lottery go to educational programs in Georgia, such as the HOPE Scholarship.
