Mattapoisett Library’s October lineup: movies, poetry, board games – New Bedford Standard-Times

The Mattapoisett Free Public Library has announced a series of events for October. The library is located at 7 Barstow St.
The Fall Yoga Series continues at 11 a.m. Thursday and Oct. 9. There will be no yoga on Oct. 16. The class concludes at 11 a.m. Oct. 23. This beginner-friendly yoga flow series is adaptable for all ability levels. Classes will be held outside, weather permitting. No registration is required.
Local attorney Amy Mello will present an introduction to estate planning at 2 p.m. Saturday. Mello provides a variety of services to individuals, families, businesses and organizations. This event is free and open to all, with no registration required.
The library is celebrating the spooky season with a Frightfully Fun Film Festival every Tuesday. These free outdoor movie screenings will take place on the library’s lawn, weather permitting. The first film, Boris Karloff’s 1931 classic “Frankenstein,” will be shown at 6 p.m. Oct. 7. All ages are welcome.
The next meeting of the Friends of the Mattapoisett Library is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 8. A Zoom link is available upon request. For questions, contact the library at mfpl@sailsinc.org.
The Friends are accepting jewelry donations. Gently used or unworn jewelry and accessories can be dropped off at the circulation desk by Nov. 16. These contributions will support future library events.
The Frightfully Fun Film Festival continues at 6 p.m. Oct. 14 with the 1968 family comedy “Blackbeard’s Ghost.” The series will feature the 1966 comedy-horror film “The Ghost and Mr. Chicken” at 6 p.m. Oct. 21. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.
A free poetry event featuring local poets will take place at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 in the library’s large meeting room. Light refreshments will be provided, and no registration is necessary.
The Board Game Club will hold its first meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 21. The featured game is “Trekking the National Parks,” recommended for two to five players. Space is limited, and registration is available on the library’s website.
The Well-Read Wednesdays Nonfiction Book Group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 22. The group will discuss “The Wide Wide Sea” by Hampton Sides. New members are welcome.
The Friends of the Mattapoisett Library will host a book sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 25 in the library’s meeting room. Proceeds will benefit library programs. Book donations can be dropped off starting Oct. 21.
The Frightfully Fun Film Festival Finale will take place at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in the large meeting room. The event will feature live music by Jeff Rapis and a screening of the 1925 silent film “The Phantom of the Opera.”
The next Sippizine writing group meeting is at 6 p.m. Oct. 28. Participants are encouraged to bring their favorite writing accessories for this creative session.
Estate Planning 101 with attorney Jane E. Sullivan is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 29. This educational event will cover organizing finances, starting a will and planning an estate. It is free and open to the public.
A library card is required for checkout. If a card is missing, it can be replaced. The SAILS mobile app is an alternative to carrying a physical card. For assistance, patrons can speak with a librarian.
