Mega Millions hits eight-largest jackpot in history. When is the next drawing? – The Tennessean

The Mega Millions jackpot has almost reached $1 billion, making it the largest jackpot of the year.
After no one won on Tuesday, the estimated jackpot has grown to an estimated $965 million. If someone matches all six numbers in Friday’s Mega Millions drawing, they can win a one-time cash payment of $445.3 million.
“The Mega Millions jackpot is on the verge of a billion dollars for the eighth time in the game’s history!” the organization said in a Nov. 12 press release.
It is the eighth-largest jackpot in the game’s history since it began in 2002.
Here’s what to know about the Mega Millions:
The winning numbers for Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing are: 10, 13, 40, 42 and 46. The Mega Ball is 1.
No one won the Mega Millions jackpot. However, tickets purchased in Iowa and New York matched the five white balls and included a 3X multiplier, allowing them to win $3 million each. Additionally, a ticket purchased in Arizona also matched the five white balls and had a 5X multiplier, resulting in a $5 million win.
The next Mega Millions drawing is Friday, Nov. 14. Drawings are held at 11 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday.
Mega Millions costs $5 to play.
The player can pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers — five different numbers from 1 to 70 (the white balls) and one number from 1 to 24 (the gold Mega Ball). Players can also select the Easy Pick/Quick Pick option.
Powerball and Mega Millions frequently reach the $1 billion mark, compared to when the games started.
In the last five years, eight jackpots from Mega Millions and Powerball have exceeded the $1 billion mark. Notably, three of these occurred in 2023.
The first came in January with a $1.35 billion Mega Millions winner, followed by a $1.08 billion Powerball jackpot in July. The latest was a $1.63 billion Mega Million jackpot in August.
The highest lottery jackpot was won in November 2022, totaling $2.04 billion. This was the second jackpot exceeding $1 billion that year. Prior to that, jackpots over a billion dollars were recorded only in 2021, 2018 and 2016.
The odds of matching the five white balls and the Mega Ball to win the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 290,472,336.
