A winner in New York state scored $150,000 with a third-prize Powerball ticket that was tripled after using a $1 Powerplay feature.
The New York Lottery announced one third-prize-winning Powerball ticket using the Powerplay option was sold for the Nov. 11 drawing.
The ticket was sold at Smokes 4 Less, located at 59 North Plank Rd., in Newburgh, New York.
This store has become known as a hotspot for winning tickets and top prizes — contributing to the buzz and anticipation of lottery players hoping for a slice of luck.
When purchased, the lottery player opted for the $1 Powerplay feature that allows players to multiply a non-jackpot prize up to 10 times. Since the Powerplay rolled 3 during the Nov. 11 drawing, it automatically tripled the third $50,000 prize to $150,000.
The winning numbers for that evening were: 3, 21, 24, 34, 46, and Powerball 9.
The winning numbers for the Powerball game are drawn from a field of one to 69. The Powerball number is drawn from a separate field of one to 26. In order to win the jackpot, players must match all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball number.
Powerball tickets can be purchased at any New York Lottery retailer for $2, seven days a week. The deadline for purchasing a ticket is 10 p.m. on draw nights.
Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 11 p.m., and the New York Lottery urges players to buy tickets early to avoid last-minute lines.
