The Lottery Winners have turned to Robbie Williams to help them score a big hit.
The pop band has bagged two UK number one albums – 2023’s Anxiety Replacement Therapy, and 2025’s KOKO – but now Thom Rylance (vocals/guitar), Robert Lally (guitar/vocals), Katie Lloyd (bass/vocals), and Joe Singleton (drums) need to add a smash-hit song to their list of achievements.
Frontman Rylance told the Daily Star newspaper’s Wired column: “I’ve been writing with Robbie.
“To be candid and to be honest, the one thing we are missing as a band is that huge hit, and that is my absolute determination to make that happen.”
The You Again hitmaker was in awe of Williams, 51, when they were working together in the studio.
Rylance shared: “I don’t know how he does it, like we’ll sit down, and I’ll play like a piece of music, and then he just sings, but what he sings is incredible lyricisms that’s poignant, funny and rhymes like straight off the top of his head.”
Coming off the back of touring with the former Take That boy band member, The Lottery Winners have secured a homecoming gig at Leigh Sports Village Stadium, Leigh, Greater Manchester, which takes place on May 30, 2026.
And Rylance is feeling nervous about the fact that they will be the first band to play there – following in the footsteps of Sir Elton John, 78, and Lionel Richie, 76, who have already performed at the venue.
He said: “I am petrified. I don’t know why we’re doing it.
“We’re idiots. We are always too ambitious, we’re far too ambitious for our own good sometimes.”
Despite feeling the nerves, Rylance says it has been his childhood dream to perform for people in a stadium.
He explained: “My earliest memory of seeing any kind of live music, although it was on a VHS tape, was Queen live at Wembley, and that’s what I thought concerts looked like.
“My gran Mavis used to make me outfits that Freddie wore, I had the yellow jacket and the white pants with the red line on it, and I used to dance around the living room, and that carpet was my Wembley.
“So I always had in my head that I would be stood in a stadium singing to people, and we have been doing it this summer – but now I want to be at the top of that poster!”

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has approved plans for a second runway at London Gatwick Airport, as the government looks for economic growth opportunities.
The £2.2bn privately-financed project involves in effect moving the current Northern Runway 12 metres to bring it into regular use, as well as other developments, including extending the size of terminals.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves said the plans would create "thousands of jobs and billions in investment", but the project has long faced opposition and the Green Party described it as "disaster".
Gatwick currently handles about 280,000 flights a year. It says the plan would enable that number to rise to around 389,000 by the late 2030s.
Reeves said the second Gatwick runway was part of the government's plan to "get Britain building again".
A government source has described the plans as a "no-brainer for growth," adding that "it is possible that planes could be taking off from a new full runway at Gatwick before the next general election."
London Gatwick, in West Sussex, is currently Europe's busiest single-runway airport with more than 40 million passengers using it every year.
The plans approved by Ms Alexander would include adding 40,000 more flights before the second runway opens, and 70,000 more – almost 190 a day – once it is fully up and running.
The airport says that passenger numbers could rise to up to 80 million.
Currently, the Northern Runway is currently only used for taxiing or as a back up.
The second runway would be used for short haul flights, with capacity also freed up for more long-haul services from the main runway.

The decision to approve the expansion plan had been expected in February, but at the time, the transport secretary only said she was "minded to grant consent" for the Northern Runway planning application.
It emerged planning inspectors had expressed concerns over the effect the proposals would have on several aspects on the area surrounding the airport, including traffic and noise.
In April, Gatwick Airport agreed to stricter noise controls, an enhanced insulation scheme for nearby residents, and having 54% of air passengers using public transport before the Northern Runway opened.
To achieve this target, the airport said, third parties – including the Department for Transport – would need to "support delivery of the necessary conditions and improvements required to meet this target," giving the example of reinstating the full Gatwick Express rail service.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the Gatwick Express ran a service of four trains per hour non-stop between the airport and London Victoria, this was reduced to two trains per hour from 2022.
Gatwick Airport also proposed a cars-on-the-road limit if the 54% target could not be met before the first use of the Northern Runway to address possible road congestion concerns.
It added that if neither the target nor the cars-on-the road limit could be met, the runway plans would be delayed until the required £350m of road improvements had been completed.
"This would make sure any additional road traffic flows can be accommodated and any congestion avoided," the airport said.
"This government has taken unprecedented steps to get this done, navigating a needlessly complex planning system, which our reforms will simplify in future," the government source said.
"Any airport expansion must be delivered in line with our legally binding climate change commitments and meet strict environmental requirements."
Chris Curtis, who chairs the Labour Party's growth group, welcomed the approval but said "radical planning reform" was needed to enable future projects to be completed more swiftly.
Shadow transport secretary Richard Holden welcomed the decision as "a vital step towards driving economic growth".
But he said approval should have been made months ago and accused Labour of creating "uncertainty for businesses and local communities".
But there is strong opposition to any expansion, particularly from climate campaigners.
Green Party leader Zack Polanski said approval of the expansion plan was a "disaster for the climate crisis".
Hannah Lawrence, spokesperson for Stay Grounded, said "We need an immediate end to airport expansion and money put into improving sustainable transport such as trains."
In February, Greenpeace UK policy director Douglas Parr said the extension would not drive economic growth. "The only thing it's set to boost is air pollution, noise, and climate emissions," he added.
Alex Chapman, senior economist at left-of-centre think tank New Economics Foundation, also argued the move would not create new jobs, but would just shift them from other parts of the country.
"People are already perfectly able to catch cheap flights on holiday or travel for business," he added.
Unite the Union general secretary Sharon Graham backed Gatwick having a second runway, but warned it would need "to come with guarantees of well paid, unionised jobs and proper facilities for workers".
Sally Pavey, chair of Communities Against Gatwick Noise Emissions (CAGNE), said she was worried about "uncontrollable noise, ramifications on the roads, decline in air quality… and climate change".
"We can't keep ignoring climate change and it would be wrong to allow a new 'bucket and spade' runway, as we put it, at the expense of residents and the economy," she said.
The group would take legal action through a judicial review if the expansion goes ahead, she added.
Gatwick's is the latest in a string of airport expansion approvals, most recently Luton's in April.
The government has also expressed support for a third runway at the country's biggest airport, Heathrow, but that would be a much more complex, costly and controversial project.
Brussels Airport asks airlines to cancel nearly half of their outgoing flights on Monday.
A launch service will be available for foot passengers and cyclists crossing the river at Cowes.
Some airlines in Terminal 2 are still having issues with their check-in and boarding systems.
The issue affecting check-in and baggage systems has also caused cancellations in Brussels and Berlin.
The dispute is over pay in a union campaign for workers to move closer to £15 an hour.

India has been one of the largest beneficiaries of H-1B visas, accounting for 71% of approved visas in 2024
India has hit back at Donald Trump’s decision to impose a $100,000 fee on H1-B visas for skilled foreign workers in the US, sparking warnings by the Indian government that it would have “humanitarian consequences” and one minister claiming they were “afraid of our talent”.
On Friday, the US president announced new rules around the H1-B visas, which allows companies to hire foreign workers in skilled occupations like IT, healthcare and engineering, to work in the US for up to six years.
The H1-B visas are designed to allow US companies to hire skilled foreign workers in areas where there have been shortages in the domestic work market. India had become by far the largest beneficiary of H-1B visas, accounting for 71% of approved visas in 2024.
However, the White House said the visas were being “abused” to undercut American wages and outsource IT jobs, claiming companies were laying off thousands of US workers, only to hire cheaper foreign labour from countries such as India through the scheme.
A statement from India’s external affairs ministry over the weekend said the fee would have humanitarian consequences “by way of the disruption caused for families”.
The Indian government said it “hopes that these disruptions can be addressed suitably by the US authorities and emphasised that the exchange of skilled workers has “contributed enormously” to both nations.
In comments on Sunday, India’s commerce minister Piyush Goyal said: “They are also a little afraid of our talent. We have no objection to that.”
The new $100,000 fee, which is 60 times the current cost, came into effect on Sunday. It immediately sent ripples across the IT and tech industries, which are the biggest beneficiaries of the policy.
IT firms with clients such as Apple, JPMorgan Chase, Walmart, Microsoft, Meta and Alphabet’s Google are among those reported to be impacted.
On Monday morning, the share prices of India’s biggest IT companies such as Infosys and Tata Consulting Services slumped in response to the H-1B visa fee hike.
Nasscom, India’s IT trade body, said the move would “potentially have ripple effects on America’s innovation ecosystem” and create “considerable uncertainty for businesses, professionals, and students across the world”.
The chief minister of the southern state of Telangana, Revanth Reddy, which sends a high number skilled IT workers to the US on H1-B visas urged Indian prime minister Narendra Modi to treat the issue on a “war footing”, warning that the suffering of Indian IT workers in America would be “unimaginable”.
Immigration lawyers in India reported receiving frantic calls over the weekend as confusion reigned over how the scheme would be implemented.
Before the White House clarified that the order applied only to new applicants and not holders of existing visas or those seeking renewals, companies including Tata Consultancy Services, Eli Lilly, Microsoft, JPMorgan, and Amazon advised employees on H-1B visas to stay put or return to the US before 21 September, forcing many workers from India and China to abandon travel plans and rush back.
One Indian worker on a H1-B visa told Indian news agency PTI there was “absolute panic”. “This is a travel ban,” they said, requesting anonymity for fear of losing their visa. “Even if a person has a valid H-1B visa stamped on their passport, if they are travelling, or are on holiday, you cannot enter the US unless they have proof of the $100,000 payment. No one knows what the process is, what the fine print is.”
Another India worker said the new policies by the Trump administration were making many already on H1-B visas reconsider staying in the US.
“People are really starting to question if they can continue to build their lives in the US because there’s such a high level of uncertainty around everything now,” they said.
In China, which accounts for the 11.7% of all H1-B visas – the second highest after India – the Chinese government has not yet responded to the news, but online there was a sense of confusion and panic.
