All it took was one lucky ticket for a Rehoboth Beach resident to win it big with the Delaware Lottery.
A 70-year-old man won $100,000 after playing Delaware Lottery’s 50th Anniversary Instant Game.
The winning ticket was purchased at Safeway #2706 at 19238 Coastal Highway in Rehoboth Beach.
The longtime First State resident and family man bought just one ticket which led to his biggest lottery win. A regular lottery player for the past five years, he said he was stunned when he realized how much he had won, lottery officials said.
He plans to use the prize money for home repairs and said the experience has been both fun and rewarding. “It just feels really good,” he said.
“The best part of these big wins is getting to meet the people behind the ticket,” said Helene Keeley, director of the Delaware Lottery. “We were thrilled to hear that the winner will be putting the prize to good use by tackling some important home improvements. We’re sending him all the best for those projects and wishing him a great year ahead.”
The Delaware Lottery’s 50th Anniversary $50 Instant Game was launched as part of the state’s yearlong celebration of five decades of play, officials said. The game gives players the chance to win up to $1 million instantly in the game, with one $1 million top prize up for grabs.
Tickets are valid for up to one year past the drawing date for drawing game prizes or within one year of the announced end of sales for Instant Games, according to delottery.com.
First things first, sign the back of your ticket using an ink pen to identify yourself as the ticket owner. According to the Delaware lottery, once signed, ticket ownership cannot be changed or transferred.
For prizes $599 or less, tickets can be redeemed at Delaware lottery retailers or the Delaware Lottery Office. You can also mail your tickets to the Delaware Lottery Office: 1575 McKee Road, Suite 102, Dover, DE 19904.
Prizes worth $2,500 or less can be claimed at select Delaware Lottery retailer claim centers throughout Kent, Sussex and New Castle counties.
Any prize between $600 and $5,000 can be claimed between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday to Friday at these redemption centers:
A prize worth $5,001 or more can be claimed at the Delaware Lottery Office on business days from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. You must bring a photo ID that includes your name and address, as well as a Social Security card.
All winning Powerball, Mega Millions and Lotto America tickets must be redeemed in the state and jurisdiction where they were sold.

One of Wolverhampton's largest empty retail buildings could be divided into five smaller shop units under plans submitted to the city council.
Plans have been submitted to redevelop part of the five-storey former Sports Direct shop in Queen Street, which has been lying empty for more than four years.

The building, previously occupied by Boots, was built in 1970 and received a major renovation in 2003. But it has been empty since the sportswear giant moved to new premises in the Mander Centre in 2021.
Opinder Singh Gulati has applied for permission to redevelop the ground floor of the building. He wants to remove the escalator connecting it to the upper floors, and divide the ground floor into four smaller units of about 5,000 sq ft each, and a fifth one of just over 3,000 sq ft.

Talking to Livemint, Dr Nidhi Rajotia, Unit Head, Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Artemis Hospitals, shared how pregnancy in the 40s is no longer impossible.
With improved healthcare, it is possible to conceive in your 40s despite a decline in fertility. “Many women have healthy pregnancies with the right care, even though fertility naturally declines with age and risks like high blood pressure, diabetes or chromosomal issues can rise. A balanced diet, regular checkups, moderate exercise, and not smoking or drinking alcohol all make a big difference. IVF and genetic testing are two modern treatments that can also help keep pregnancies safe. Pregnancy at 40 can be a happy and healthy time if you get help and take care of yourself,” explains Dr Rajotia.
Many might also consider In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) to embrace motherhood in their 40s, especially those with medical complications.
Dr Kshitiz Murdia, CEO & Whole-Time Director of Indira IVF Hospital Limited, shared that fertility naturally declines in women after 35, due to a decrease in both the number and quality of eggs. By the time a woman reaches her 40s, conceiving naturally becomes more challenging, and the chances of a successful pregnancy without medical intervention drop significantly. Pregnancies at the age of 42 demonstrate that while conception later in life is possible, it often requires careful planning and, in many cases, medical support.
Talking about risks associated with late pregnancy, Dr Rashmi TN, Consultant at Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Manipal Hospital, shared that certain medical conditions might affect fertility. Regular tests play a crucial role in determining the overall health to ensure a healthy pregnancy journey.
“Pregnancy after 40 is possible but comes with certain biological considerations. By this age, a woman’s egg reserve and egg quality typically decline. Conditions like ovarian cysts, endometriosis, or fibroids may also affect fertility. That’s why it’s essential to undergo proper screening—ultrasound, AMH testing, and other blood tests—to assess ovarian and uterine health,” Dr Rashmi shared.
Dr Murdia explained how pregnancy in the 40s is different from the younger age group. “Pregnancy after 40 carries higher health risks compared to younger ages. Women in this age group are more susceptible to complications such as miscarriage, gestational diabetes, high blood pressure, and preeclampsia. Additionally, the likelihood of requiring a cesarean section increases, along with longer recovery periods. These challenges stem largely from age-related changes in egg quality and the body’s ability to adapt to the physical demands of pregnancy,” he said.
While pregnancy in the 40s can be challenging, it isn’t impossible to get pregnant once a woman hits 40.
“Advances in reproductive medicine have opened new possibilities for later motherhood. Assisted reproductive technologies like IVF, egg freezing, and the use of donor eggs have enabled many women in their 40s to conceive safely. Complementary measures such as genetic screening can help identify potential complications early. Coupled with a proactive approach to health, such as maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, stress management, and timely medical check-ups, it is increasingly feasible for women to plan and achieve healthy pregnancies even later in life,” pointed out Dr Murdia.

Cryptocurrency continues its push to become more significant, according to Cointelegraph, which reported that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is in early talks to develop a method for blockchain-registered stocks to trade on crypto exchanges. 
If properly developed, this move would be a step forward in integrating digital assets into traditional financial systems, as it would allow investors in the stock market to purchase and sell stock tokens on approved cryptocurrency platforms. 
Companies have already expressed interest in stock tokenization in recent months. Coinbase is reportedly seeking approval from the SEC to offer tokenized equities, while the Nasdaq has asked for approval to change a rule that would let it list tokenized securities, per Cointelegraph. Meanwhile, crypto exchanges Kraken and Robinhood have reportedly already begun offering tokenized stocks on their platforms.
However, not every business is thrilled by the prospect of crypto stocks, as traditional finance companies have pushed back against the idea. According to Cointelegraph, Citadel Securities wrote in a note to the SEC’s Crypto Task Force in July: “Tokenized securities must achieve success by delivering real innovation and efficiency to market participants, rather than through self-serving regulatory arbitrage.”
Tokenization has already made a dent in the markets, with approximately $31 billion in assets currently tokenized, with Binance Research estimating that these stocks could exceed $1.3 trillion if a mere 1% of global equities were transferred to the blockchain. In fact, due to the recent growth of these stocks, researchers have predicted that tokenization “may be nearing a major inflection point in the broader transition to hybrid finance,” according to Cointelegraph.
Whether this potential move heavily influences financial markets remains to be seen, but this proposal could negatively impact the environment.
