A lucky gambler who bought a Lotto ticket from a Metairie gas station had a winning combination Saturday night resulting in a $3.9 million jackpot, according to the Louisiana Lottery.
It’s one of the biggest lottery wins in the state in months, but the person with the newfound fortune won’t bring that entire total home.
In Louisiana, any lottery win over $5,000 is subject to a 3% state tax deduction and 24% federal tax deduction, according to the Louisiana Lottery website.
That means the winner will pay 27% in taxes off the top. On a $3.9 million win, the tax deductions total about $1.053 million, leaving about $2.8 million for the payout.
The Louisiana Lottery has payed out more than $15 million in wins from lottery tickets and scratch-offs since September, according to data provided by the company.

Police are investigating after thieves committed thefts by “jackpotting” ATMs at a couple of Salina banks.
“Jackpotting” is a type of cyber-physical crime where criminals gain control of an ATM to force it to dispense large amounts of cash on command.
Police say at approximately 8:00 PM Sunday someone entered the ATM at Bennington State Bank at 2130 S. Ohio and was able to obtain an undisclosed amount of money from it. The suspect then proceeded to the Bennington State Bank branch located at 200 S. 9^th, at about 1:00 AM, where they were able to enter the ATM and obtain an undisclosed amount of money as well
The suspect vehicle was a white Lincoln passenger car. A Kansas tag was observed on the vehicle. It was determined the tag had been stolen between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM on Sunday from a vehicle in the 100 block of S. Phillips.
The same suspect is suspected in a similar  “jackpotting” incident which occurred in Wamego.

A $5 bet on a slot machine at MGM Springfield ended in a jackpot prize for one woman.
The woman bet on the game “Dragon Link” on Thursday. She won the jackpot prize of $67,314.
Overall, there are over 1,500 slot machines at MGM Springfield.
The Springfield casino distributed more than $80 million in jackpot prizes over seven months from February through October, with July recording the highest monthly total.
