This New Hampshire Convenience Store Sold a Winning $50,000 Lottery Ticket – 97.5 WOKQ

Can you imagine winning $50,000 just before the holidays?  Well, it happened to someone who purchased a lottery ticket in New Hampshire for Saturday's Powerball drawing.
According to a report from WMUR, the winning ticket was sold at Circle K on Route 4 in Northwood.  The winning ticket matched 4 out of the 5 winning numbers and the Powerball also matched.

If you break down the ticket by the numbers, meaning there are 6 numbers, including the Powerball Number, this ticket was only one number off. I can't imagine how frustrated the winner must be.  Not to mention that they didn't purchase the power play, which would have doubled, tripled or even quintripled their winning!  (if that's a word.)  They could have taken home $500,000.
If I matched four out of the 5 "winning numbers," I'd freak out.  The prize for 4 out of 5? According to powerball.com, it's $100.   If we were talking grades, that's 80%, which is a B or B-, if my memory serves me.
There was no jackpot winner on Saturday, so tonight's drawing is an estimated $654 million dollars, which is probably around $300 million for the cash pay out and you won't hear me complaining about that.
It wasn't until recently that I decided to become a lottery player.  I guess I always thought it was for older people, but maybe when I turned …..35, I thought I might as well give it a shot because, as they like to say, you can't win if you don't play.  That's especially true when $50K was won right here in New Hampshire.

Lottery officials urge players to check tickets as mystery $78m winner remains unclaimed after gas station purchase – The US Sun

More from The Sun
Plus, the pros and cons between a crucial choice the winner has to make
LOTTERY players have been advised to double check their tickets from a recent drawing, as they could be missing out on millions of dollars.
Officials are still reaching for the holder of a $78 million winning ticket, and time is running out to get the money.

Someone hit the big time during a November 15 drawing of the Lotto Texas game, which has a similar format to Powerball and Mega Millions.
A player matched all six numbers picked, which were 7, 17, 23, 28, 39, and 48, according to a news release from the Texas Lottery.
It was also confirmed that the ticket purchase was made at a Gordon’s Bait & Tackle in Brownsville, located in the very southernmost tip of the state near the Mexico border.
As it stands, the unidentified ticket holder has 180 days from the draw date (November 15) to come forward to get the $78 million payday, the sixth largest in the game’s history.

That would make the expiration date May 14, 2026.
The money will expire, truly, meaning that after that time the player can no longer get it and it will be redistributed into state programs authorized by the Texas Legislature.
These include the Foundation School Fund, Fund for Veterans’ Assistance, and other initiatives.
Assuming the player does make it in time, they would need to head in-person to Texas Lottery headquarters in Austin to obtain the prize, as it is well over $5 million.

The $78 million prize has been building since February 19, with it taking a record 116 drawings for the jackpot to be won again.
“We are thrilled that a lucky player purchased the jackpot-winning ticket for this long-awaited Lotto Texas jackpot win, which is one of the largest in the game’s history,” Courtney Arbour, executive director of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), said in a statement.
TDLR oversees the Texas Lottery.
“We look forward to meeting and congratulating the winner when they come forward to claim the prize. Texans can feel confident that wins like this are supported by secure, well-managed games under TDLR,” Arbour continued.
“If you believe you are the lucky ticket holder, please sign your ticket, keep it in a safe place, seek financial and legal advice, and call the Texas Lottery to schedule an appointment to claim your prize.”
After arriving in Austin, the player will have to make the choice between taking the money in a lump sum or through split annuity payments.
LUMP SUM VS ANNUITY
Lottery winners need to decide whether to take a big jackpot as a lump sum or as annuity payments.
What is a lump sum?
What are annual payments?
Assuming they take the lump sum, as many players do, the windfall will be significantly less due to taxes.
Given that the cash option is just $43.6 million before taxes, the federal withholding of 24% would take out around another $10.46 million.
Then, once the player files their federal tax return and includes the windfall, they’ll likely be bumped up to a different tax bracket and face another $5.66 million deducted.
So after everything, the Texas winner would net about $27.47 million.
That’s still a considerable and life-changing sum.

Lottery results present Chicago Sky with a dilemma that has no easy solution – High Post Hoops

The Chicago Sky are only four years removed from the 2021 championship and three years from a trip to the semifinals. Still, a lot has changed since then. Chicago lost Candace Parker and Kahleah Copper, but drafted Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
Reese was immediately named an All-Star and broke several rebounding and double-double records as a rookie. It seemed that if the front office could surround the two young bigs with the right veterans, the Sky could avoid a lengthy rebuild and bounce back into the playoffs. So, Sky GM Jeff Pagliocca traded the third overall pick in the 2025 draft to the Mystics for Ariel Atkins and signed several veterans in free agency. The Mystics drafted Sonia Citron, who was named an All-Star in her first season, and the Sky finished at the bottom of the league once again
The core issue for the Sky is that Angel Reese wants to be competitive, but the front office doesn’t seem quite able to give her that. Chicago isn’t a popular free agency destination for the top players in the league, as it lacks behind other franchises when it comes to facilities and player experience. Securing the fifth pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft doesn’t really offer them a clear solution to that problem.
Chicago owns the final lottery pick, which is widely projected to be Flau’jae Johnson. That pick would make a lot of sense. Johnson is an impactful two-way guard, who could provide much-needed perimeter defense, shot creation, scoring, and 3-point shooting for the Sky. She also won a national championship with Angel Reese when they both played at LSU.
Drafting Johnson—or another high-level guard, depending on how the draft pans out—would definitely make the Sky better and improve their future outlook. Is it enough to transform the Sky into a playoff team, though? Probably not.
There is another option: The Sky opt for a replay of last offseason and trade their lottery pick for a veteran they hope can take the team to the next level. Doing that could significantly improve the roster, but would also sacrifice a bit of the team’s future potential. The Sky also gave Washington a 2027 second-round pick and the right to swap first-round picks that year. But, if Chicago truly wants to be competitive, and isn’t convinced that it can attract more impactful free agents than it did ahead of the 2025 season, trading the lottery pick would be the easiest way to get another star to Chicago. The Sky’s pick won’t attract as much interest as a higher pick would, though. Some teams would certainly be eager to move on from a veteran star for a top three pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft. The fifth pick still promises a lot of talent, but not as many choices as a higher pick.
Neither option is perfect.

The Powerball jackpot is $654 million tonight. Here's how to play – The Gardner News

The grand prize keeps growing.
It’s time to go to the store to get a Powerball ticket.
The Powerball jackpot for tonight’s drawing (Monday, Nov. 24) is an estimated $654 million, with a cash option being an estimated $303.2 million.
Tonight’s Powerball drawing will be the 34th since the jackpot last hit Sept. 6, when tickets sold in Missouri and Texas split a $1.787 billion jackpot.
In the last Powerball drawing on Saturday, Nov. 22, one $50,000 prize was won on a ticket sold in Peabody, Massachusetts.
What’s more, the jackpot for the Megabucks game keeps getting bigger as well.
Do you want to play Powerball or Megabucks?
Here’s how.
Drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
You can check the Massachusetts Lottery website, or the Powerball website for the drawing results.
Powerball tickets are $2 each and can be purchased until 9:50 p.m. on the day of a drawing.
The Powerball website states that, “the overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 24.9. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.”
To play Powerball, you have to buy a ticket for $2. You can do this at a variety of locations, including your local convenience store, gas station, or grocery store. In some states, Powerball tickets can be bought online.
Once you have your ticket, you need to pick six numbers. Five of them will be white balls with numbers from 1 to 69. The red Powerball ranges from 1 to 26. People can also add a “Power Play” for $1, which increases the winning for all non-jackpot prizes.
The “Power Play” multiplier can multiply winnings by: 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X.
If you are feeling unlucky or want the computer to do the work for you, the “Quick Pick” option is available, where computer-generated numbers will be printed on a Powerball ticket. To win the jackpot, players must match all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball.
If no one wins the jackpot for a given drawing, the cash prize will continue to tick up.
To win, match one of the nine ways to win:
According to a release, tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
“More than half of all proceeds from the sale of a Powerball ticket remain in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold,” the release states. “Since its first drawing in 1992, the Powerball game has helped generate more than $36 billion for good causes supported by U.S. lotteries.”
The Megabucks jackpot for tonight’s drawing is an estimated $7.55 million, with a $5.22 million cash option.
“This is the game’s largest jackpot since the game was redesigned in 2023 to bring more value to players including better odds of winning, higher average jackpots, bigger payouts for all non-jackpot prizes as well as including an additional third weekly drawing,” according to a release from the Massachusetts Lottery Office.
The release added, “Prior to this, the game’s largest jackpot under the new game matrix was $6.13 million which was hit on (Jan. 27, 2025) on a ticket purchased in Rockland.”
Megabucks tickets are $2 each and can only be purchased in Massachusetts.
Tickets for Monday’s drawing can be purchased until 9 p.m. Megabucks drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 9 p.m.
