APB’s Lego bingo stacks up a great night – theslateonline.com

The prizes that students competed for at the APB Lego bingo night held on Nov. 7.
Shippensburg University’s Activities Planning Board hosted Lego Bingo on Nov. 7 in the CUB Multipurpose Room B. The event lasted from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and had many prizes of intricate Lego sets that everyone wanted.
The night had many rounds, snacks and the competitive feeling in the air that comes along with bingo. WSYC DJed the event, bringing the room to sing together at times and enjoy the games even more. The multicolored lights paired perfectly with the fun atmosphere for bingo.
The Lego sets that were offered as prizes for the night were the Cullen house from “Twilight,” a kingfisher bird set, a “Wicked”-themed set, a set of different geodes, New York City architecture, a Porsche 911, a guitar and much more.
The prizes were set on the stage for participants to see, and if someone got bingo, they were able to choose which Lego set they wanted, unless specified that it was a surprise.
There were over 10 rounds of bingo, ranging from classic bingo to special rounds like X-shaped, four corners, L-shaped, stamp, border and speed rounds. Some rounds lasted 10 minutes, and some lasted less than five minutes, with someone calling bingo only one minute into four corners.
Hearing the crowd cheer and interact with the hosts added to the competitiveness in the room. People shouting “Bingo!” and running up to the stage, waiting for the confirmation they had won, had everyone waiting to see what prize they would get.
Throughout the rounds, there were many times when tiebreakers had to be done. When there were only two people who ran up to the stage, they used the classic rock-paper-scissors to break the tie and find their winner. At one point, five people were running to the stage, and they used a random number generator and assigned them numbers to determine the winner.
The final round of the night was blackout bingo, where attendees had to cover every spot on their board. The grand prize of this round was the Milky Way set. Everyone saw this and decided it was time to pay attention to make sure they had a chance to win.
The room was quiet, with the occasional excitement of getting close, awaiting the next number to fill their boards. As time went on, people got closer to bingo, and the anticipation was palpable. After a while, someone called bingo, and the games were over.
“This is something different that we have not done before, but we are glad we did. When we do Lego prizes in other bingo games, it is very popular, so why not do a whole event with them?” said Kyle Alber, a co-adviser of APB.
APB hosts many events like this, with many prizes, snacks, and music, and always brings the fun. For updates on their events, visit their Instagram @shipapb and support the organization.

Scottish government drops heat pumps bill for second time – BBC

The Scottish government has dropped legislation for greener heating systems in homes and businesses for the second time this year.
A heat in buildings bill aimed at driving the switch from the likes of gas boilers to heat pumps was originally drawn up by former Green minister Patrick Harvie.
That bill was torn up earlier this year amid concerns it would increase fuel poverty but ministers promised to bring forward alternative proposals.
Now that too has been scrapped, with Housing Secretary Mairi McAllan saying she wanted to see "crucial detail" in the UK government's forthcoming warm homes plan before taking a bill through parliament.
The issue has instead been pushed back beyond next year's Holyrood election.
Harvie said the latest delay was a "pathetic capitulation" and an "act of climate surrender".
Environmental groups also hit out, with Friends of the Earth calling it a "cowardly decision" and WWF Scotland saying it was a "major setback".
The proposals were a key part of the deal between the SNP and Scottish Greens following the 2021 election.
The legislation drawn up by Harvie would have required gas boilers to be replaced with alternative systems, such as electric heat pumps, within a set timeframe after the sale of a property.
The production of heat accounts for more than half of Scotland's energy demands and is the largest contributor to the country's carbon emissions.
But the legislation was torn up in March 2025 after the partnership government broke up, with Net Zero Secretary Gillian Martin saying it would "make people poorer".
A revised plan was then announced the following month. It retained a target to decarbonise buildings by 2045 but did not have a legal requirement on homeowners or businesses to force its delivery.
Ministers acknowledged that consumers had to pay higher up-front costs for green heating systems and said the bill would "move away from penalising individuals and instead commit to collective action".
However, that too has now been put on hold, with McAllan telling MSPs there would not be time to pass complex legislation into law before parliament breaks up in March.
She reiterated the 2045 target for decarbonising how homes are heated "in a way that does not worsen fuel poverty".
But she said "essential clarity" was needed from the UK government, blaming "repeated delays" to its warm homes plan and proposals to cut fuel bills.
She said: "It is perverse that Scottish ministers should be in the dark about plans related to Scotland's own energy resources."
A draft bill has been published to provide an idea on future plans, which McAllan said would be brought forward as early as possible after the election if the SNP is returned to power.
It includes a goal of "replacing direct-emission heating systems in all Scottish buildings – as far as reasonably practicable – by 2045".
Harvie said the delay was "a complete capitulation to the anti-environment lobby".
He said: "This bill was on track to be introduced well over a year ago and it's pathetic for the SNP to blame others for their own decision to stall it.
"SNP ministers are choosing failure, and they are locking people into high fossil fuel prices for years to come."
Other opposition parties were also critical of the announcement, with the Conservatives saying it was "an incredibly embarrassing day" for the government.
And Labour said it was "beyond farcical" to blame a UK government that had been in post for 18 months when homeowners and industry had been waiting five years for clarity on the Scottish plans.
The government recently published a climate change plan aimed at reaching "net zero" carbon emissions by 2045, which included changes to heating systems.
Ministers have also announced extra grants for homeowners of up to £7,500 – or up to £9,000 for those in rural or remote island areas – as an incentive to connect to local heat networks.
But Friends of the Earth Scotland said the delay was the latest in a "litany of climate rollbacks under John Swinney", including the dropping of plans to cut car use.
Campaigner Alex Lee said it was a "cowardly choice by the Scottish government which condemns people to cold homes, high bills and ill health for even longer".
Claire Daly, head of policy and advocacy at WWF Scotland, added: "As temperatures fall and winter sets in, confirmation that the heat in buildings bill is being dropped in this parliament is a major setback for Scotland's climate and fuel poverty ambitions."
Farmers reflect on the challenges they face at an extraordinary time to work in the beef industry.
Scotland's dramatic finish against Denmark in the World Cup qualifier dominates many of the front pages.
Steve Clarke's side won a historic 4-2 victory against Denmark in a nail-biting match at Hampden park.
Hundreds of staff have been told their jobs are at risk with the Fife Ethylene Plant in Mossmorran due to close in February.
A number of snow and ice warning are coming into effect as a deep cold front moves over Scotland.

Serving Southwest and Southside Virginia
I am a huge sports fan who this past week watched both the Old Dominion University men and women play basketball. Earlier in life, I attended at least one St. Louis Cardinal baseball game 49 years in a row. I note these things because I do not want to be interpreted as just another academic who is anti-intercollegiate athletics.
But being a fan has not blinded me to what has been going on in intercollegiate athletics in the United States. Increasingly, intercollegiate athletics are driven by financial rather than academic considerations. A high school lineman in Texas signed a $5+ million deal with Texas Tech, and the University of Texas Austin’s now famous quarterback (Arch Manning) has an agreement with that university that is reputed to be worth $6 million to him. LSU may owe $47 million to the head football coach it just fired, while Texas A&M’s 2023 cashiering of its head coach reportedly may cost that institution as much as $76 million.
Within Virginia, James Madison University this year is assessing each of its full-time undergraduates a mandatory athletic fee that exceeds $3,000 (this translates to about $100 per credit hour!). Old Dominion University’s version of this fee costs its undergraduates $2,127 annually, while William and Mary’s fee is $2,401. For these and similar data, see the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia’s 2025-26 Tuition and Fees Report.
Virginia Tech recently received considerable publicity when its board of visitors adopted a plan that will see Tech plug almost a quarter of a million dollars into its intercollegiate athletics programs over four years. One member of Tech’s board voted against this proposal.

Is there any evidence that students benefit from such expenditures? For example, can we point to benefits realized by Longwood University undergraduate students who this academic year must pay a mandatory $3,083 athletics fee? Longwood does not field a football team, so the focus on that campus is on its men’s and women’s basketball teams. The NCAA reported an average attendance of 2,086 fans at Longwood home men’s games in 2024-25, while the Longwood women basketballers averaged 1,115 fans at their home contests. Longwood’s headcount enrollment exceeds 4,000, and some in attendance at its games are not students. Ticket sales for all Longwood athletic events totaled a bit more than $115,000 in 2024, a paltry sum when compared to the $8.18 million that the University earned from its mandatory athletic fee. (These financial data come from the Knight-Newhouse database on intercollegiate athletics (Custom Reports | College Athletics Database.)
James Madison and Old Dominion, both of whom are relatively recent entrants into the “big-time” Football Bowl Division (FBS) category, earn much more from their mandatory student athletic fees than other Virginia institutions. In FY 2024, Knight-Newhouse reports that JMU garnered $55.53 million from its fee, while ODU earned $32.39 million. Those are not trivial sums and are among the very highest in the nation. No wonder both institutions field winning football teams.
These fees exist despite the reality that on most campuses, students vote with their feet, and data show that most students on most campuses choose not to attend any of their institutions’ athletic events. Nevertheless, they are forced to pay for those events anyway.
Well, more than 90% of all intercollegiate athletic programs lose money and therefore must be subsidized, and often this occurs outside of the public eye. Interested readers should go to the Knight-Newhouse database on intercollegiate athletics (Custom Reports | College Athletics Database) to find relevant data on a particular institution’s athletics financing. This report, for example, reveals that Longwood’s athletic programs received $6.69 million in “institutional/government support” in addition to the student fee revenue. I can be convinced otherwise, but this $6.69 million appears to be a subsidy to those programs. However, Longwood isn’t the Lone Ranger here. Similar subsidization exists on nearly every Virginia campus — George Mason University’s comparable support number was $5.8 million, while Virginia Commonwealth University’s was $6.72 million.
Do athletic programs make degrees more valuable and this justifies fees and subsidies? Unfortunately, the answer is no. I am a co-author of a recently published book, “The Economic Impact of Intercollegiate Athletics on Former Students: Unfulfilled Promises” (Palgrave MacMillan). In this book, we examined 699 colleges over the period 2004-2022 and found no evidence that the typical institution’s students realize any economic benefits from their alma mater’s athletic programs after they graduate. Indeed, for the typical student, the evidence tells us that attending college athletic events is analogous to a person drinking a can of diet cola. The cola may taste good and hit the spot, but once consumed, it has no further impact on the drinker. Here today, gone tomorrow. But note this — students can freely choose not to buy a can of diet cola; however, they do not enjoy a similar choice with respect to how their campus’s intercollegiate athletic programs are funded.
The commonwealth of Virginia is notable for the quality of the higher education provided on its campuses, public and independent. But one need not be Bob Dylan to recognize that the times are changing. Given current trends, it is time for members of governing boards, governors, legislators, donors, parents, students and the media to ask how and where expensive intercollegiate athletics programs will maintain or improve Virginia’s higher education position in the future. Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger should not ignore this need.

Pi Network Sees Modest Price Rise Today as Fund Inflows Hit 5-Week High – Pintu

Jakarta, Pintu News – The price of Pi Network is still moving flat, showing difficulty in building momentum for a bounce. The altcoin has been moving in a narrow range over the past few days, limiting opportunities to make significant gains.
This stagnant condition is exacerbated by the recent decline in the price of Bitcoin , which disturbs investor sentiment and hampers Pi Coin’s efforts to move higher. Then, how will Pi Network’s price move today?
On November 19, 2025, the price of Pi Network was recorded at $0.2269, a slight increase of 1% in 24 hours. If converted into the current rupiah ($1 = IDR 16,740), then 1 Pi Network is IDR 3,798. During the same period, the price of PI moved within a range of $0.2234 to $0.2291, showing moderate volatility and movement within a narrow range.

Pi Network’s current market capitalization stands at $1,884,088,881, with a fully diluted valuation of approximately $2,898,598,278. The last 24 hours trading volume stood at $20,165,408, reflecting fairly active market activity.
The Chaikin Money Flow (CMF) indicator showed a sharp spike, signaling a significant increase in capital inflows. Investors are starting to allocate more funds to Pi Coin, hoping that the asset will soon show a stronger movement.
Such patterns generally reflect bullish sentiment, especially when the market has been in a long consolidation phase.
This capital inflow even reached its highest level in the last five weeks, signaling that Pi Coin still has strong support from its community of holders. This increased allocation of funds reflects growing confidence, despite the overall unstable market conditions.
Currently, Pi Coin’s correlation with Bitcoin (BTC) stands at 0.70, which shows a fairly strong relationship between the movements of the two assets. Although not fully in line, Pi Coin’s price movements still tend to follow the general direction of the Bitcoin market.
Unfortunately, this has been an obstacle for Pi Coin. Bitcoin’s price drop to the $90,000 range has limited Pi Coin’s room to recover. Although capital inflows have shown bullish support, Bitcoin’s weak performance has made it difficult for Pi Coin to record meaningful gains.
This puts Pi Coin in quite a difficult position – on the one hand there is encouragement from investors, but on the other hand external pressure from the broader crypto market is still a burden.

Pi Coin as of November 18 was trading at $0.225 and is still holding above the important support area of $0.217. The asset has been moving in a narrow range between $0.234 to $0.217 over the past few days, reflecting market uncertainty as buyers and sellers continue to compete for control of price direction.
With market conditions showing mixed signals – strong capital inflows but negative macro pressures – it is likely that Pi Coin will remain sideways in the near term. The potential for a breakout above $0.234 is still open, but is highly dependent on Bitcoin price stabilizing and strengthening.
Without support from BTC, Pi Coin’s upward momentum will remain limited. If market conditions deteriorate and holders start to reduce support, there is a risk of the price dropping below $0.217. A drop to the $0.208 area would invalidate the bullish scenario that is starting to take shape, and show that Pi Coin will still face a tough challenge to bounce back.
Pi Coin is an alternative coin that moves within the cryptocurrency market, often following the trends set by Bitcoin.
Pi Coin was hampered by the recent Bitcoin price drop, which affected the entire cryptocurrency market, including Pi Coin despite an increase in fund flow.
Pi Coin is currently trading at $0.2269.
