One winner of nearly $1 billion Mega Millions jackpot – Straight Arrow News

Straight Arrow News
One lucky winner in Georgia hit the Mega Millions jackpot on Friday night with a big prize of $983 million.
Friday’s 40th drawing marked the most drawings in a single jackpot run in the game’s history.
There were 21 second-tier winners nationwide, winning prizes of $2 million or more.
After 39 unsuccessful drawings, number 40 turned out to be the magic number for one lucky Mega Millions player. Friday night, that person hit all five numbers plus the gold Mega Ball number to win the eighth-largest prize in jackpot history, $983 million.

The lottery announced that somebody had won on Saturday, and that a single ticket had been sold to a player in Georgia. The winning numbers were 1, 8, 11, 12, 57 and a Mega Ball of 7.
“After growing since the end of June, the Mega Millions jackpot was won for just the fifth time this year on Friday night. A single ticket sold in Georgia matched all six numbers in the November 14 drawing,“ the lottery said in a statement to Fox Business.
Nobody has come forward as of Monday morning to claim the massive prize publicly. The winner will have the option of taking a lump-sum payout of $453.6 million.
The record for a Mega Millions jackpot win took place in Florida in August 2023, when one winner hit the numbers for $1.602 billion.
In addition to the grand prize winner, there are 21 second-tier winners of prizes of $2 million or more, totaling at least $343 million. The lottery says winners are from various states, including Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia. There were also 347 third-tier prizes ranging from $20,000 to $100,000.
It is the first time anybody has won the Mega Millions drawing since June 27, when an individual in Virginia won $348 million.
The old saying used to be “a dollar and a dream.” However, that expression may have expired, since it now costs $5 to play Mega Millions. The lottery increased the price in April from $2 to boost jackpots, which now range from $20 million to $50 million. Tickets are now sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
In a release, Joshua Johnston, lead director for the Mega Millions Consortium, said, “$983 million is the largest jackpot that’s been won since the Mega Millions game changed back in April.”
Mega Millions lottery drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday night, with the next one scheduled for tomorrow, starting at a minimum of $50 million.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are approximately 1 in 290 million. The winner may choose between a 30-year annuity of $980 million or a lump-sum payment of $452.2 million before taxes.
This win ends a record streak of 40 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner. Mega Millions, played in 45 states plus D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands, recently changed its rules to increase ticket prices and adjust prize structures.
"We are thrilled to congratulate the largest winner in our state’s history," said Georgia Lottery President and CEO Gretchen Corbin. "With every Mega Millions ticket sold in Georgia supporting HOPE and Pre-K, Georgia’s students and families are also big winners."

$100,000 Mega Millions prize sold in Western PA – Audacy

While it wasn’t the big jackpot, a Pennsylvania Lottery ticket worth $100,000 hit during Friday night’s Mega Million drawing in Western PA.
The ticket that matched four of the five white balls drawn, 1, 8, 11, 12, 57 and the yellow Mega Ball 7 to win the $100,000 prize was sold at Kristyak’s Korner on North Main Street in Sandy Lake Boro, Mercer County.
Winners should sign the back of their ticket immediately and contact the Lottery to begin the claiming process.
The big jackpot, worth $983 million, hit in Georgia. It’s the eight-largest Mega Millions jackpot in history.
Even if you didn’t win the $100,000 prize in Mercer County, the PA Lottery says over 51,400 other ticket worth various amounts were sold across Pennsylvania.
The Mega Millions jackpot has reset to $50 million for the next drawing on Tuesday.

Pelicans' Karlo Matkovic: Tacks two steals in loss – CBS Sports

If not listed, please contact your TV provider.
Matkovic closed with four points (2-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two rebounds, three assists and two steals over 20 minutes during Sunday’s 124-106 loss to Golden State.
Matkovic set a season-high in minutes Sunday, which was primarily due to the blowout nature of the game, but he was not able to take advantage. With Zion Williamson (hamstring) also slated to return in the coming days, Matkovic’s role could reduce significantly soon.

Mini-performance, Desert Bingo on Monday (11/17) to raise funds for Dance Mojave – Z107.7 FM Joshua Tree

This Monday (11/17), Desert Bingo returns to Red Dog Saloon in Pioneertown to raise funds for Dance Mojave. The weekly event partners with various Morongo Basin nonprofits and charities, and proceeds from the game are donated to their community efforts. Prior to the kick-off of the boisterous bingo game, attendees will be graced with a taste of Dance Mojave’s Desert Nutcracker production, as described by Executive Director Jenn Henry.
“The Desert Bingo evening will start at Red Dog. They’re graciously hosting us to perform our jackrabbit piece and our quail piece. These are our reimaginings of the Chinese Tea variation. That’ll be jackrabbits. That music goes really well with their jumping and bounding. We have two really amazing teen dancers who will be performing in that. And then we have our quail, who have actually been rehearsing in Pioneertown in the lead-up to the show. That feels kind of like a nice hometown opportunity for them to perform.”
A post shared by Desert Bingo (@desertbingo)
As Dance Mojave’s Communications Director, Melissa Daniels explained, the funds raised during the event will go towards the upcoming production of The Desert Nutcracker.
“All of what we do at Dance Mojave is community-funded. We’re a non-profit, and we don’t charge anyone to participate. All the money that we use to put the production on comes from either fundraisers, ticket sales, or, in some cases, grants. The money we make goes back into productions, and community fundraising helps fill in the gaps.”
Dance Mojave is a nonprofit performance collective of dancers from across the Morongo Basin. Founded in 2024, the organization presented its first production of the Desert Nutcracker last winter, blending the classic ballet with the spirit of the Mojave Desert. The second production of the Desert Nutcracker will be held from December 5 through the 7 at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center.
Desert Bingo will be held tonight at the Red Dog Saloon in Pioneertown. The mini-performance will take place at 6 p.m., with the bingo to follow at 6:30 p.m.
