Income Tax Bill 2025 Clarifies Virtual Digital Asset Definition, Includes NFTs – The Kashmir Monitor

Access our Replica Edition
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the new Income Tax Bill, 2025 to the Lok Sabha on February 13. With this new bill, the finance ministry has provided more clarity to define what constitutes the sector of ‘virtual digital assets (VDAs)’ in the country. This move follows her presentation of the FY2025-26 budget earlier this month. During her budget speech, the FM did not mention any changes to the tax laws enforced over the crypto sector, leaving members of the crypto community disappointed.
Here’s How the New Income Tax Bill, 2025 Defines VDAs
India is among the many countries working to gain a deeper understanding of the Web3 industry, which encompasses blockchain, cryptocurrencies, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
According to the new Income Tax Bill — any information, code, number, or token that is generated through cryptographic means and provides any digital representation of an inherent value — will be seen as part of the VDA ecosystem in the country.
For the first time, NFTs have been explicitly classified as virtual digital assets (VDAs) in India. These blockchain-based tokens represent unique digital or physical assets that cannot be replicated. NFT holders have certified proof of ownership, which remains immutable unless they choose to transfer or divide it. While some NFTs serve as digital collectibles, many hold financial value and can be traded for profit. In recent years, brands and game publishers have leveraged NFTs in marketing strategies to attract younger audiences, offer rewards, and drive in-service spending.
“The Central Government may, by notification, exclude any digital asset from this definition,” the bill added.
Commenting on the development, Giottus founder Arjun Vijay told Gadgets 360 that after due diligence, the government may warm up to the VDA sector after all.
“Just like how all transactions for stocks, etc is stored with Income tax and find a mention in the automatic identification system (AIS), soon we will have the same for crypto transactions as well,” Vijay said. “We are happy with every interaction as we get more coupled with the government bodies, and we get an opportunity to prove our commitment.”
Other Crypto-Related Information that Made it to the Bill
The 622-page legislation, comprising 536 clauses, offers guidance on aligning crypto businesses with Indian law. It clarifies that funds generated through virtual digital assets (VDAs) are classified as “undisclosed income.”
On Page 492, the bill outlines the obligation to report crypto transactions. It mandates that any entity dealing with cryptocurrencies must submit transaction details to the income tax authority. However, the bill does not specify the format, manner, or timeframe for submission.
If errors are found in submitted details, businesses will have 30 days to correct them. Failure to do so within the given period will be considered as furnishing inaccurate information. Companies may also proactively report errors to the tax authorities. Non-compliance with reporting requirements could lead to action from tax officials.
The Income Tax Bill 2025 is set to replace the Income Tax Act of 1961, aiming to simplify the tax filing process. However, the Finance Ministry has not introduced any changes to the existing 30 percent tax on crypto income.
India’s crypto and Web3 community continues to await supportive policy amendments while recognising the complexities of assessing VDA-related risks in a country of India’s scale. However, they remain hopeful that, over time, authorities will take steps to foster the growth of the Web3 sector.
“Speed always does not equate to sustainability. With so many stakeholders involved, Government agencies, financial institutions and regulators public policy making will take time to ensure it is comprehensive and inclusive,” Utkarsh Tiwari, Chief Strategy Officer , KoinBX crypto exchange told Gadgets 360.

Disney’s live action “Lilo & Stitch” actor stars in local theater production – Aloha State Daily

“Outlandish,” a new play about the Victorian travel writer Isabella Bird and her encounter with King Lunalilo had its world premiere on the stage of Kumu Kahua Theatre this month. Joining the cast is actor Kaipo Dudoit, who spoke with Aloha State Daily about how he gets into character for the role of King Lunalilo.
November 14, 20254 min read
Actor Kaipo Dudoit, who appeared in Disney’s live action “Lilo & Stitch” is back on stage at Kumu Kahua Theatre where he plays King Lunalilo in the world premiere of “Outlandish.”
“Outlandish” by Eric Anderson tells the story of Isabella Bird, a Victorian travel writer who met King Lunalilo during a visit to Hilo. The production runs through Dec. 7. Get tickets and learn about Kumu Kahua Theatre’s new book club, which is reading a biography about Bird this month. There is also a buy one, get one free promotion for tickets for the show on Friday, Nov. 21.
Film and theater acting are “completely different things,” Dudoit told Aloha State Daily. On stage, actors’ movements need to be larger than for filming, and they use their voices differently, he said.
“It always a pleasure to be on a stage, and especially at Kumu Kahua [Theatre], where I did a lot of my learning, first through Kumu Kahua,” he said. “It’s been a wonderful welcome back to theater.”
Recently, Mayor Rick Blangiardi and the City and County of Honolulu named Aug. 6 as Kaipo Dudoit Day.
Over the years, Dudoit has been an actor and assistant director at Kumu Kahua Theatre.
“It’s such a beautiful place because we do plays about local things written by local people for local audiences,” he said. “It’s a very unique spot. And it is a black box theater. Everything is intimate, and you get to feel the story along with the actors and experience a different kind of theater that you don’t get to see elsewhere.”
To get into character for this role, Dudoit has been listening to a lot of classical music from that era. The story is set in the 1870s. Pō’ai Lincoln, who is in the cast as an actress and is the show’s music director and dramaturge, led the cast in learning about songs within the play and music played during that time, he added. Other members of the cast include Emily Steward, Jill Jackson and Kanoe Perreira.
“ʻOutlandishʻ is a heartfelt and humorous play based upon following a Victorian traveler and writer, Isabella Bird,” Dudoit said. “She has traveled all over the world for her health, and she happens to stumble upon Hawaiʻi. And this is a time right after [Lunaliloʻs] coronation as king.”
The production focuses on a night where Bird and King Lunalilo meet and exchange stories and life experiences. The play is historical fiction and based on imagination, although it is documented that Bird and King Lunalilo did meet, “but we don’t know what happened in their meeting,” he said.
“It’s a beautiful play about give and take — about sharing experiences and the connections or misconnections that we have with people — within our own home and outside of our home,” he said.

Looking At Phoenix's Lottery Wins – Sports Illustrated

The WNBA Draft Lottery will be happening soon, and one team is going to get lucky. There were a few teams that struggled this season, and now, they will have a chance to add another young player who will contribute to the team's rebuild.
Last year, the Dallas Wings won the lottery, and they selected a special player with the first pick. They drafted Paige Bueckers, who had a big year with UConn and helped them win a championship. She averaged 19.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.1 steals.
Bueckers won Rookie of the Year this season, and she will be a star in this league for years to come. The year before, the Indiana Fever won the lottery, and they drafted Caitlin Clark. Clark would end up winning Rookie of the Year that season, and this year, her team took a step in the right direction.
The Phoenix Mercury have had this experience as well, as they have won the draft lottery multiple times. The WNBA introduced the Draft Lottery back in 2002, and the first team to win it was Seattle Storm. They used that pick to draft Sue Bird.
The next team to receive the first pick was the Cleveland Rockers. They drafted LaToya Thomas in the 2003 WNBA Draft, and she played with them for a year before going elsewhere. The team folded after that season, and their players went to new teams. Penny Taylor was included in that, and she headed to Phoenix.
Phoenix's first time winning the lottery was in 2004, and they selected a special player. They drafted Diana Taurasi, and she went on to have an illustrious career. The Mercury struggled in 2003, and Taurasi was the start of a turnaround.
A few years later, the Mercury won the lottery, and they selected Lindsey Harding with that pick. However, her time was cut short, as she was traded to the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for Tangela Smith.
Then, the Mercury had successful seasons before having another poor season. They struggled in the 2012 season, and in the end, they won the lottery once more. They drafted Brittney Griner with that pick.
Phoenix won the lottery three times, and with the way they played this season, it will be a while before they win another lottery. The Mercury have their stars, and come next year, they may win a championship.
