ESCANABA — Bay College men’s and women’s basketball team remained undefeated after taking both contests from Gogebic Community College here Wednesday. The Women went wire-to-wire defeating the Sampsons 112-74 while the men earned a 79-65 win.
Women’s Game: The Norse jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on a 3-pointer by McKenzie Hoffmeyer. With 7:14 to go in the first half Jillian Fraser connected from downtown to extend the Norse lead to 13-4. Lauren Zawada also hit from behind the arc with 1:47 to go in the first quarter, extending the Norse lead to 33-15. The Norse as a team hit 11 3-pointers in the contest.
The Norse took a 53-32 lead into the half.
Addison Cullen led the Norse in scoring off the bench with 21 points to go along with seven rebounds.
“Addison is a really good post player for us,” Norse Women’s coach James Fassett said. “We don’t play a lot of post, but we normally play five out and when she is on the floor we like to get down on the block and take advantage of her size inside.”
Nina Bower also had 19 points off the bench for the Norse. The Norse bench outscored the Sampsons 56-14 in the contest.
Men’s Game: In the men’s game it was the Sampsons that took the early lead on a 3-pointer by Caden Louma. The Norse quickie answered with a layup by Ziad Abouali who drew a foul in the process and converted the free throw to tie the game at three.
Sampsons freshman Owen Robinson drove to the basket for a layup to put Gogebic up 5-3. Sophomore Savion Johnson scored the next eight points for the Norse and the game was tied again at nine. Johnson had 11 points to go along with 10 rebounds.
Freshman Trey Frye III broke the tie on a layup to put the Norse up 11-9. Adam Page went strong to the basket for a layup and freshman Trevor Nolan connected on a 3-pointer to put the Norse up 16-10.
The Norse took their biggest lead of the first half at 35-19 on a layup by Abouali. The Sampsons answered with a 12-0 run including a pair of 3-pointers by sophomore Ben Salkauskas and sophomore Enrique Moreno-Bautista to cut the deficit to 37-33. The Norse held a 39-36 lead at halftime.
The Norse started the second half on an 13-0 run to put the Norse up 52-36.
“It wasn’t our vest game we ever played” Norse Men’s coach Matt Johnson said. “We made adjustments at halftime to clean up some of the mistakes but I still feel we played well in stretches we just have to do it through the entire game.”
Adam Page led the Norse in scoring with 20 points on the night.
The Norse will be back in action tonight as they host Oakland Community College. Women’s game starts at five with the Men’s game to follow.

The combined Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots are now over $1.5 billion.  Mega Millions has climbed to $965 million and the Powerball to $546 million.
The Mega Millions jackpot has skyrocketed to almost $965 million after no lottery players matched all six of the winning numbers in Tuesday night’s drawing.
The next drawing is Friday, Nov. 14, with an estimated jackpot a staggering $965 million, the eighth-largest jackpot since the game started in 2002, according to Mega Millions.
Tuesday night’s winning jackpot numbers were white balls 10, 13, 40, 42 and 46, plus the gold Mega Ball 1.
Mega Millions tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The tickets are $5 each and include a randomly assigned multiplier, multiplying the base prize levels by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X or 10X.
Mega Millions explains on its website that half of the proceeds from the sale of each Mega Millions ticket remains in the state where the ticket was sold, where the money supports designated worthy causes and retailer commissions. Mega Millions drawings are held at 11 p.m. ET on Tuesdays and Fridays.
The Powerball jackpot has reached $546 million after there were no winners in Wednesday night’s drawing.
The next drawing is on Saturday, Nov. 15 with an estimated jackpot of $546 million.  Powerball holds the world record for largest national lottery jackpot at $2.04 billion. The record prize was won by a single ticket in California on Nov. 7, 2022.
Wednesday night’s winning jackpot numbers were 29, 39, 43, 51, 65, and Powerball 23.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Players select five numbers between 1 and 69 for the white balls, then select one number between 1 and 26 for the red Powerball.
Powerball tickets cost $2 per game. In Idaho and Montana, Powerball is bundled with Power Play for a minimum purchase price of $3 per play.
Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET!
Powerball says all profits from ticket purchases are retained by the individual lotteries and used to fund projects approved by the legislature authorizing each lottery.

Million Dollar Lottery Ticket Sold in New York Expires Soon – hudsonvalleycountry.com

The New York Lottery is asking Mega Millions players to check their tickets because a winning Mega Millions ticket worth $1 million sold in New York will expire next month.
If you are a Mega Millions player and haven't checked your winning numbers recently, you might want to grab your tickets and give them a quick check because an unclaimed prize-winning ticket worth $1 million sold in New York will expire in December.
The New York Lottery announced on Monday that a prize-winning ticket worth $1 million sold in Nassau County, NY, remains unclaimed and will expire next month. The Mega Millions second prize-winning ticket was sold at Cold Cut Express located at 507 Dubois Avenue in Valley Stream, NY, for the December 13th, 2024, drawing.
The winning numbers for that drawing were 36, 43, 52, 58, and 65, and the Mega Ball was 16.
Winners have one year from the drawing date to claim their prize, so whoever is holding the winning ticket has until December 13, 2025, to come forward and claim their $1 million prize.
If you are holding the winning ticket, lottery officials are reminding players to sign the back of the ticket, put it in a safe place, and contact the New York Lottery at 518-388-3370 or visit www.nylottery.ny.gov for information on how to claim your prize.
This isn't the first time a lottery winner has waited until the last minute to cash in their winning ticket. Last month, we learned about Patrick Therrien of Cortlandt Manor, NY, who finally came forward to claim his $1 million Mega Millions prize almost a full year after the winning numbers were drawn on November 15, 2024.
Therrien bought the winning ticket at the Stop & Shop on East Main Street in Peekskill, NY, where he matched all five numbers: 05, 17, 35, 55, and 69. The only one he missed was the Mega Ball, 19.

Since the jackpot began its current run on June 28, Oregon has seen 654,567 winners and more than $4.3 million in total winnings.
