The annuity provides guaranteed income for the next 30 years.  “What if I don’t expect to live for 30 years?”  The vast majority of substantial lotteries provide a death benefit for annuity plans which allow you to ensure remaining funds may pass to your heirs and beneficiaries.  Your estate plan should include legal entities including at least one trust.  The trust should provide the structure and instructions on how funds are to be managed after one’s passing.  The annuity option is a protection against blowing through the winnings and allows you to enjoy the benefits of your winnings in a stable, well-planned environment.  The lower cash payout of the annuity option can make it easier to say no to those charities, families, friends and others who would like to “share” in your good fortune.  The only disadvantage of an annuity is you can’t access all of your winnings in the event of an emergency or a tremendous investment opportunity.  Tax rates can fluctuate over the years and your tax attorney should be able to help you to assess this risk.
Another of our tax tips for lottery winners is to remember to ask about the impact of estate tax as you develop your financial and investment strategy.  While there is presently no estate tax here in California, there is a federal estate tax.  The present federal estate tax exemption in 2023 is $12.92 million.  The federal estate tax rate ranges between 18% to 40%, so this can be a significant factor in your planning.

To play, you will need to pick six numbers. Five numbers will be white balls ranging from 1 to 70. The gold Mega Ball is one number between 1 and 24.
If you believe the odds are against you, ask for a “Quick Pick” or an “Easy Pick,” the computer will randomly generate the numbers for you.

Hi Brandon, great question! Daily deposit limits reset after midnight. Self-exclusion limits are based on the precise time that the player sets the limit. For example, if one were to set a one week limit on Monday at 2:00 PM, then the limit would end exactly one week later on Monday at 2:00 PM. I hope this helps to answer your question.

Definitely play smart if you’re playing in NC. Therefore, I suggest playing in another state. NC is one of few states that haven’t dropped a quad in almost 4 years without the fireball. I know they’ve made enough money to cover the drop. I’ve tracked other states and I see them dropping them a couple times a year. To play smart is to play somewhere else. You know how you guys have it set up to be able to click the button to play the multiplier and power play online. You need to fix it to where you can click the button to have the option to play the double play the same way online, instead of the only way to play the double play is you have to go in store. I have been trying to make a withdrawal from my NC lottery account of my winnings, and I always get the message, “You have reached your limit on the number of cash outs requested and are unable to make additional cash out requests at this time.” I am encountering restrictions on the number of withdrawals I can make from your North Carolina lottery account. According to their policy, you’re allowed to withdraw up to five times a day or ten times a week.
