Estevao Willian could prove to be one of the biggest transfer bargains if he reaches his full potential – and his performances already for Chelsea suggest he is well on his way.
Of course, Estevao only turned 18 earlier this year which allowed him to formalise his transfer to Chelsea from Palmeiras, so expectations and pressure on the teenager need to be managed accordingly as he enters the spotlight.
Chelsea paid an initial £29m for Estevao, who penned a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge, with the deal including significant performance-related add-ons. If they are reached, every single party has won.
He has been gradually introduced into the Chelsea side this season under head coach Enzo Maresca, who has taken full responsibility of ensuring the Brazilian settles into his surroundings in England.

"Again, last week he was complaining about it being cold," joked Maresca when discussing Estevao's adaptation. "Last week was still October. Imagine December, January!"
Regardless of how Estevao is coping with the English weather, he has certainly adapted to conditions in the Premier League, as well as in the Champions League.
In his 16 appearances for Chelsea this season in all competitions, he has returned four goals and an assist. His influence on the side is far greater than anyone could've imagined and hoped for this early in his Blues career.
As Maresca acknowledged after their 3-0 win over Wolves in the Premier League, Estevao brings a special energy when he receives the ball and is an option for Chelsea. An individual who plays with no fear and for the love of the game, but with real quality and vision to produce game-changing moments.
Estevao came off the bench and just over a minute later, he was helping set up Joao Pedro's goal to double Chelsea's lead – talk about being influential.
The aura the Brazilian oozes already. The way he dazzles on the ball. He brings a comparison to Eden Hazard's days at Chelsea. If he can get anywhere near what Hazard did in west London, or even exceed, the Blues will have a very special player on their hands.
Maresca believes Chelsea have hit the jackpot and he's right. Now it's about ensuring he remains grounded and continues on the right pathway with his game management, adaptation and development.
"He's doing fantastic," reflected Maresca. "For this club, in the next 5-10 years, he will be a top, top player.
"The reason why fans pay tickets is because they want to see players like Estevao, like Cole (Palmer)."
The prospect of what Estevao can achieve is frightening. Along with all of the successes, there will no doubt be bumps in the road too. They will serve as pivotal moments for Estevao.
For now, Estevao is only at the start of his journey and it's time to embrace every single step of the way.

Oregon, a state that prides itself on innovation, can now claim another first: the first state with a professional sports team whose coach was arrested by the FBI and charged with scheming to rig illegal poker games.
The recent bust of ex-NBA star and Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups focused a national spotlight on Oregon, the NBA and gambling.
But that glare, so far, has obscured the size and impact of Oregon’s sports betting industry.
Gambling revenue is an important segment of the state of Oregon’s budget. In the 2024 fiscal year, Oregon took in more than $1.7 billion in gambling revenues.
But the percentage of this amount that comes from sports betting—despite the relentless TV ads for state-sponsored offerings from DraftKings, complete with bet $1, get $100 in credit teasers—is only 4.4%, an Oregon Journalism Project analysis shows.
Video lottery, the vast network of colorful pseudo-slot machines found in bars, restaurants and lottery delis across the state, provides the Oregon Lottery with nearly 16 times as much revenue as the more glamorous sportsbook.
Oregon Lottery revenues flow into the State Treasury and fund programs for education, parks, economic development, veterans programs, and even a tiny bit for treatment of gambling addiction, among other expenditures.
A 2018 U.S. Supreme Court decision legalized sports gambling nationwide. In 2022, after a false start with a Maltese betting company, Oregon contracted with DraftKings, the huge online gambling company, to handle the state’s sports betting.
Oregon gets 51% of the net revenue from sports gambling—the amount left over after payouts, DraftKing’s cut, and other costs.
Although only a small portion of Oregon Lottery revenue, sports betting is the agency’s fastest-growing segment. From 2023 to 2024, its revenues jumped 36%, reaching $75 million, the OJP analysis shows.
Critics say that’s a dangerous trend. Kitty Martz, executive director of Portland’s Voices of Problem Gambling Recovery, argues that the harm caused by sports gambling heavily outweighs the benefits. Martz notes that unlike conventional lottery products, which are available only at retail locations during business hours, sports betting is accessible by cellphone anytime, anywhere.
“It becomes very all consuming,” Martz says. “Younger, educated men are starting to be more affected by gambling harm.”

A federal judge on Friday declared a mistrial in the case of two Massachusetts Institute of Technology-educated brothers charged with carrying out a novel scheme to steal $25 million worth of cryptocurrency in 12 seconds that prosecutors said exploited the Ethereum blockchain’s integrity.
U.S. District Judge Jessica Clarke in Manhattan sent jurors home after they were unable to reach agreement on whether to convict or acquit Anton Peraire-Bueno and James Peraire-Bueno of charges that they carried out a first-of-its-kind wire fraud and money laundering scheme.
The mistrial was confirmed by William Fick, a lawyer for Anton Peraire-Bueno at Fick & Marx. A spokesperson for Manhattan U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton did not respond to a request for comment.
Both brothers attended Cambridge, Massachusetts-based MIT, where prosecutors say they studied computer science and developed the skills they relied on for their trading strategy.
They were indicted in May 2024, before U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration came into office, ushering in a new, crypto-friendly approach to enforcement. Despite the shift in priorities, the case against the brothers proceeded to trial.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Nees in his opening statement on October 15 accused the brothers of carrying out a “high-speed bait-and-switch” designed to lure trading bots into a trap and drain the accounts of other cryptocurrency traders.
Prosecutors said that for months, the Peraire-Bueno brothers plotted to manipulate and tamper with the protocols used to validate transactions for inclusion on the Ethereum blockchain, a public ledger that records each cryptocurrency transaction.
They did so by exploiting a vulnerability in the code of software called MEV-boost that is used by most Ethereum network “validators,” who are responsible for checking that new transactions are valid before they are added to the blockchain, prosecutors said.
“Then they planted a trade that looked like one thing from the outside, but was secretly something else,” Nees told jurors in his opening statement. “Then, just as the defendants planned, the victims took the bait.”
Katherine Trefz, a lawyer for James Peraire-Bueno at Williams & Connolly, countered that the trading strategy they executed was not just novel but legitimate and “consistent with the principles at play in this very competitive trading environment.”

The Mega Millions jackpot continues to rise as no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Friday, Nov. 7.
Here are the Friday, Nov. 7 Mega Millions winning numbers: 16, 21, 23, 48 and 70. The gold Mega Ball was 5. The Mega Millions lottery jackpot was an estimated $843 million with a cash option of $391.7 million for Friday night’s drawing.
The big prize has been growing since it was last won in Virginia on June 27 after four jackpot wins in the first six months of 2025. The jackpot is now an estimated $900 million or $415.3 million cash for Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Here are the Friday, Nov. 7 Mega Millions winning numbers: 16, 21, 23, 48 and 70. The gold Mega Ball was 5. The Mega Millions lottery jackpot was an estimated $843 million with a cash option of $391.7 million for Friday night’s drawing.
No one won the jackpot in Friday night’s Mega Millions drawing Nov. 7, and there were no Match 5 winners. One ticket purchased in Ohio matched four white balls plus the gold Mega Ball with a 3X multiplier to win $30,000.

This is longest streak without a jackpot winner since the game began in 2002. The previous record of 37 drawings was set January 22, 2021, when a $1.050 billion jackpot was won in Michigan.
The Multiplier is randomly assigned, and increases non-jackpot prizes two, three, four , five or 10 times.
The next drawing is Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m.
Tuesday’s jackpot is estimated to be $900 million with a cash option of $415.3 million. This is the eighth largest jackpot since the game started in 2002.
Drawings are every Tuesday and Friday at 8 p.m.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot won on a single ticket is a $1.602 billion prize won in Florida on Aug. 8. Other large single-ticket Mega Millions prizes have been $1.537 billion won in South Carolina on Oct. 23, 2018; $1.348 billion won in Maine on Jan. 13, 2023; $1.337 billion won in Illinois on July 29, 2022, and $1.050 billion won in Michigan on Jan. 22, 2021.
Mega Millions tickets cost $2 per play. There are nine ways to win a prize, from the jackpot to $2. Players can pick six numbers from two separate pools of numbers: five different numbers from the white balls numbered 1-70 and one number from the gold balls numbered 1-25.5 + 1 = Jackpot.5 + 0 = $1 million.4 + 1 = $10,000.4 + 0 = $500.3 + 1 = $200.3 + 0 = $10.2 + 1= $10.1 + 1 = $4.0 + 1 = $2.

In Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana, you can buy a Mega Millions ticket at gas stations, convenience stores and supermarkets until 10:45 p.m. on drawing night.
