However, the initiative carries a notable paradox, as the central bank is developing a legal framework for a multi-billion-dollar industry before assembling the team required to enforce it.
Johnson Asiama, the central bank governor of the West African nation, confirmed the timeline during the International Monetary Fund meetings in Washington, noting that a bill is being prepared for submission to parliament.
He admitted that the Bank of Ghana “late to the game” and is now urgently “building the necessary expertise” while establishing a new department to regulate the sector. This regulatory gap persists in a market of considerable size; between July 2023 and June 2024, Ghanaians traded more than USD 3 billion in cryptocurrency, with an estimated 3 million individuals, around 9% of the population actively involved.
Ghana’s push for regulation forms part of a broader continental movement, shaping a complex and competitive environment for digital assets. In Kenya, parliament has recently approved the Virtual Asset Service Providers bill, which is now pending the president’s signature to take effect.
Meanwhile, South Africa has positioned itself as a regional frontrunner, having already granted licenses to numerous crypto asset service providers and now enforcing advanced regulations such as the “Travel Rule” to combat money laundering, with its market revenue expected to reach USD 373.5 million this year.
Nigeria, the regional powerhouse, recorded an enormous USD 59 billion in crypto transactions over a recent one-year period, with a new formal tax framework slated to take effect next year. This development highlights the growing pressure on other African nations to establish their own regulations or risk falling behind.
Ghana’s urgency stems from multiple factors. Amid the local cedi’s volatility, authorities aim to bring cryptocurrency transactions currently happening outside conventional banking oversight—under regulation to strengthen monetary policy control. The central bank is also operating a digital sandbox that allows selected companies to test crypto services under supervision. However, the divide between ambition and administrative capacity remains a major hurdle.
The oversight department remains unstaffed, casting doubt on how effectively enforcement will function once the law is enacted. As one prominent regional financial advisor remarked earlier, “the digital train has left the station,” warning that inaction could lead to “loss of tax revenue, increased illicit capital flows, hindered innovation, and a youth-driven digital economy operating beyond state control.”
<a Drop in lottery sales costs Nebraska State Fair nearly $1 million – The Grand Island Independent

Many in the crowd were dancing as popular Grand Island band La Imparable Banda Nuevo Imperio played at the State Fair on Aug. 31, 2025.
The average person attending this year’s Nebraska State Fair didn’t notice a decrease in lottery funds, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt.
Crowds were out in force the Sunday before Labor Day at the Nebraska State Fair. A reduction in lottery funds didn’t diminish this year’s fair experience, but it could in the future if the trend continues.
A contestant participates in the open class beef show on Aug. 28 at the Nebraska State Fair. Funds from the lottery and a 10% local match make up 40% of the State Fair’s budget.

Check your pockets: Unclaimed $50K Powerball ticket was sold in Marlborough MA – MetroWest Daily News

Somebody bought a Powerball ticket nearly a year ago in Marlborough, and it’s worth $50,000.
But not for long.
The $50,000 winning ticket, a Quic Pic that was purchased at New Capital Farms Convenience Store at 554 Boston Post Road (Route 20), will expire on Nov. 20 if unclaimed by then, according to a community announcement.
The winning numbers for the Nov. 20, 2024, drawing were 16, 30, 60, 62, 64, with a Powerball number of 25, according to the announcement. The holder of the $50,000 ticket would have matched four of the first five numbers, along with the Powerball number.
The prize was won during a drawing that featured a jackpot of more than $155 million, which eventually increased to $256 million before being won on Dec. 7 with a ticket sold in New York.
Powerball winners in Massachusetts have one year from the date of the drawing to claim their prizes, according to the announcement. In this case, if the $50,000 prize goes unclaimed, the money would become part of the net profit that the Massachusetts Lottery returns to the Commonwealth for distribution to all 351 cities and towns.
Prizes of up to $103,000 can be claimed at any of the lottery’s claim centers. These centers are located in Braintree, Dorchester, Lawrence, New Bedford, West Springfield and Worcester.
Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Each play costs $2. Players select five numbers from a pool of 69, plus a Powerball number between 1 and 26. There is also a Quic Pic option.
Matching only the first five numbers drawn (and not the Powerball) wins a $1 million prize.

Crypto Payments: The Future of Retail Transactions – OneSafe

Well folks, it looks like the retail world is stepping into the crypto age. Bealls, the retailer that’s been around since the 1910s, has just teamed up with Flexa to let customers swipe their Bitcoin, Ethereum, and stablecoins at checkout. With over 660 stores across the U.S. accepting this payment method, it’s a game changer. But what does this mean for the future of retail payments and the challenges that come with it?
It’s no longer a question of if retail is going to adopt crypto payments; it’s just a matter of when. A recent survey shows that about 75% of U.S. retailers plan to take the plunge into crypto or stablecoin payments in the next couple of years. This isn’t just a passing phase, folks; it’s a sign of the times. As more and more people become comfortable with digital currencies, the demand for these payment options will only keep rising.
Let’s face it: every retailer loves cutting costs. With crypto payments, retailers can ditch the hefty transaction fees that credit cards usually come with. This is especially appealing for small and medium-sized businesses that are trying to keep their profit margins intact.
Flexa Payments is no slouch, either. They process transactions in under a second. That’s right—no more waiting around for payment confirmations. Quicker access to funds means better cash flow management. Why wouldn’t you want that?
By accepting crypto payments, retailers can tap into a customer base that prefers using digital currencies. Plus, they can easily convert any received crypto into fiat or a stablecoin right away. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.
Regulatory uncertainty is a big one. The lack of a consistent framework across different jurisdictions can make retailers think twice before jumping into the crypto pool. Staying updated on compliance is crucial.
If you thought retail payments were volatile, just wait until you see crypto. Price swings can create chaos for both shoppers and retailers, and some smart risk management will be needed to keep things stable.
And don’t forget about crypto payroll. Retailers could very well start using crypto payroll platforms to pay employees in digital currencies. It’s a neat way to streamline operations and cater to those who prefer getting their salaries in crypto.
Is this the future of retail payments? It sure looks like it. With Bealls leading the way, it seems like a lot of other retailers will follow suit. Sure, there are challenges like regulatory uncertainty and volatility to consider, but the benefits—lower costs, faster transactions, and adapting to consumer preferences—are hard to ignore. As we move forward, it’s clear that crypto is making its way into the retail payment ecosystem.
