STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Powerball jackpot has grown to a whopping $785 million for the next drawing on Monday — making it the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot in history.
The jackpot rolled over after a winning ticket didn’t match all six numbers during Saturday night’s drawing — white balls 1, 12, 20, 33, and 66 and red Powerball 21.
The cash value of the jackpot is $367 million.
And there’s a way to play for free. If you sign up as a new customer for the lottery app Jackpocket, you can get a free $2 lottery ticket to play Powerball when you enter the code FREEPB at checkout. Through Jackpocket, you can order official state lottery tickets that are then fulfilled at a licensed lottery retailer.
If you win a smaller prize — usually up to $600, depending on the threshold amount in your state — it will go straight to your Jackpocket account. You can then choose to transfer funds to your bank account.
For large prizes above the threshold amount in a state, the paper ticket is securely transferred so you can claim your prize from the state lottery.
The Powerball jackpot was last won in the July 19 drawing when a ticket in California matched all five white balls and the red Powerball to win a grand prize worth $1.08 billion. Since then, there have been 28 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner.
Even though there was no jackpot winner, players are reminded to check their tickets for one of the nine ways to win. Nationwide, the Powerball drawing produced more than 1.5 million winning tickets, including three tickets (California, Florida, New York) that matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes.
If a player wins the Powerball jackpot on Monday night, they will have the choice between an annuitized prize of an estimated $785 million, or a lump sum payment of $367 million.
Here’s what to know before you play Powerball ahead of the drawing.
PURCHASING A TICKET
Powerball tickets can be purchased at any New York Lottery retailer for $2, seven days a week. The deadline for purchasing a ticket is 9:45 p.m. on draw nights.
Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, and the New York Lottery urges players to buy tickets early to avoid last-minute lines.
Or use Jackpocket’s app to buy tickets. If you’re a new customer, you can get a free ticket for Monday’s game.
POWERBALL DRAWING
The drawing for the $785 million jackpot prize is Monday at 10:59 p.m. Powerball drawings are also live-streamed on Powerball.com.
HOW TO PLAY
Players select five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26.
WINNING THE JACKPOT
In order to win the jackpot, players must match all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball number.
There are two Powerball jackpot prize payment options: You can receive your prize in 30 annual payments, or receive the prize in a lump sum cash payment.
Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The lump-sum cash payout of this jackpot is $367 million.
ADDING POWERPLAY
Powerplay is a feature that allows a winner to multiply the original prize amount.
Players can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times with the Power Play option for an additional $1 per play.
YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING
The odds of a $2 ticket hitting the jackpot are more than 292 million to 1. It’s roughly a 11,688,053-to-1 shot to match five numbers but not the Powerball.
