Whether you're hunting cribs, carols, crafts or just an excuse to loiter near a mulled wine stand, England's smallest city has stacked its festive calendar higher than a cathedral choirboy on sugar. Strap in - Wells is not messing about.<br>Friday 5 December is bringing the big festive energy, with Wells doing its best impression of the West End. The <a href="https://wells.nub.news/whats-on/music/the-chorus-of-disapprovals-christmas-concert-2025-85164"><strong>Chorus of Disapproval's Christmas Concert</strong></a> takes over the Town Hall from 7.30pm with carols, guest band Twisted Vinyl and the promise of mince pies, which is obviously the main reason to go.<br><div class="p-0 -m-4 my-2"><div class="w-full rounded overflow-hidden shadow-lg"><img class="w-full no-prose p-0 m-0" src="https://nub.news/api/image/713397/category.jpeg" loading="lazy"></div></div><br>Over at the Bath & West Showground, it's night one of <a href="https://wells.nub.news/whats-on/comedy/bad-christmas-the-best-worst-christmas-party-82282"><strong>Bad Christmas</strong></a>, a gloriously grim festive dinner hosted by a drunken Santa and his emotionally questionable elves. If you're not into tinsel and trauma, maybe just potter around <a href="https://wells.nub.news/whats-on/community-events/crib-festival-2025-85797"><strong>St Cuthbert's Church</strong></a> for the <strong>Crib Festival</strong>, which runs all weekend and boasts 200 nativity scenes. Yes, really.<br>Glastonbury is keeping it low-key Friday with <a href="https://wells.nub.news/whats-on/community-events/st-johns-c-of-e-vc-infants-school-christmas-fair-84803"><strong>St John's School Christmas Fair</strong></a> at the Town Hall. Great for ticking off the school raffle circuit, if nothing else.<br>Come Saturday 6 December, Wells throws everything at it. <a href="https://wells.nub.news/whats-on/community-events/christmas-at-wells-85828"><strong>Christmas at Wells</strong></a> lands with 100+ market stalls covering the city centre from 9am, with added workshops and general decorative chaos over at <a href="https://wells.nub.news/whats-on/arts-crafts/christmas-craft-market-85306"><strong>Wells Museum</strong></a>.<br>Meanwhile, <a href="https://wells.nub.news/whats-on/family/visit-father-christmas-at-the-bishops-palace-83703"><strong>The Bishop's Palace</strong></a> kicks off grotto duties from 9.30am, but unless you booked ahead, you're out of luck.<br><div class="p-0 -m-4 my-2"><div class="w-full rounded overflow-hidden shadow-lg"><img class="w-full no-prose p-0 m-0" src="https://nub.news/api/image/713398/category.jpeg" loading="lazy"></div></div><br>Meanwhile, over in Glastonbury, <a href="https://glastonbury.nub.news/whats-on/community-events/tree-planting-day-85590"><strong>Tree Planting Day</strong></a> at Bridie's Farm is where the eco-conscious crowd will be digging holes in return for soup. At the other end of the spectrum, <a href="https://glastonbury.nub.news/whats-on/music/the-lost-trades-avalon-acoustic-sessions-85968"><strong>The Lost Trades</strong></a> bring haunting harmonies and vintage folk vibes to the Avalon Acoustic Sessions.<br>If that all sounds too peaceful, <a href="https://glastonbury.nub.news/whats-on/community-events/warhammer-40k-tournament-day-85062"><strong>The Geeky Gamer</strong></a> in Street is hosting a <strong>Warhammer 40k</strong> tournament with snacks, caffeine and tabletop bragging rights.<br>Not to be outdone, Shepton Mallet is getting dramatically festive with the <a href="https://sheptonmallet.nub.news/whats-on/community-events/the-enchanted-venetian-soriee-christmas-ball-81490"><strong>Enchanted Venetian Soirée Ball</strong></a> at Congyre Hall. Think masks, prosecco and just the right amount of scandal. Meanwhile, <a href="https://sheptonmallet.nub.news/whats-on/fairs/dorothy-house-christmas-fair-85001"><strong>Dorothy House</strong></a> is offering a more wholesome Saturday with festive stalls in Winsley.<br>By Sunday 7 December, the vibe has well and truly turned chaotic. Wells gets weird in the best way with <a href="https://wells.nub.news/whats-on/community-events/leopard-print-bingo-christmas-special-85568"><strong>Leopard Print Bingo</strong></a> at Sadlers Restaurant. Eyes down at 6pm for a £250 jackpot, a raffle, and free mince pies. Also on Sunday, <a href="https://wells.nub.news/whats-on/music/the-rock-and-roll-playhouse-plays-the-music-of-the-beatles-more-for-kids-85726"><strong>The Rock and Roll Playhouse</strong></a> is running a chaotic, Beatles-themed kid fest somewhere in Somerset (exact location TBC).<br><div class="p-0 -m-4 my-2"><div class="w-full rounded overflow-hidden shadow-lg"><img class="w-full no-prose p-0 m-0" src="https://nub.news/api/image/713401/category.jpeg" loading="lazy"></div></div><br>Over in Shepton, the <a href="https://sheptonmallet.nub.news/whats-on/fairs/giant-flea-market-75382"><strong>Giant Flea Market</strong></a> at the Showground is your place for dusty vinyl, old toys and questionable knick-knacks. Need a break? <a href="https://sheptonmallet.nub.news/whats-on/religionworship/christingle-service-85801"><strong>St Peter and St Paul's Church</strong></a> offers candlelit calm at their Christingle service.<br>Back in Street, <a href="https://glastonbury.nub.news/whats-on/music/live-music-85162"><strong>Doc Rock</strong></a> will be rocking the Royal British Legion from 8pm. Free tickets available if you're quick.<br>On Monday 8 December, Shepton Mallet gets into carbs with a <a href="https://sheptonmallet.nub.news/whats-on/food/bread-making-workshop-84898"><strong>bread making workshop</strong></a> at Ammerdown. It's £50 to learn focaccia, sourdough and the joy of edible self-care. Tea and dip samples included.<br>And finally, Tuesday 9 December is for the thinkers. <a href="https://wells.nub.news/whats-on/culture/arts-society-mid-somerset-snakes-saints-and-pawnbrokers-85194"><strong>Arts Society Mid Somerset</strong></a> is hosting a talk about why Santa is the patron saint of pawnbrokers (no, really) at Caryford Hall. Coffee from 10.15am.<br>And if you're more of a poet than a punter, Shepton's <a href="https://sheptonmallet.nub.news/whats-on/community-events/weekly-writers-group-85879"><strong>Weekly Writers Group</strong></a> meets that evening too.
