This will be the 38th drawing since the game’s last jackpot winner, the longest streak in Mega Millions history. There were 37 straight drawings without a winner in 2021 before a $1.05 billion jackpot was struck in Michigan.
This record-breaking winless drought has seen the jackpot climb to the eighth-largest amount in Mega Millions history. A potential winner of the estimated $843 million jackpot would also have the option of a lump sum payout of $391.7 million.
The last Mega Millions jackpot win came in June, when a ticket sold in Virginia secured a $348 million prize.
The Mega Millions is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with drawings taking place on Tuesdays and Fridays. The odds of winning the jackpot are a minuscule 1 in 290,472,336.
A winning ticket in Florida back in August 2023 earned the largest jackpot in Mega Millions history at $1.602 billion. That stands as one of just seven Mega Millions jackpot wins to surpass the $1 billion mark.
