
ATLANTA — A Mega Millions ticket worth nearly a billion dollars was sold in Georgia.
A single ticket sold at a Publix in Newnan, Georgia, matched the five numbers, plus the Mega Ball, according to Mega Millions.
The jackpot was worth an estimated $980 million, the eighth largest prize in the game’s history.
It’s the largest-ever jackpot winner in Georgia, according to Mega Millions.

Friday’s winning numbers were 1-8-11-12-57, Mega Ball 7.
The jackpot winner has the option to take the cash lump sum of $452.2 million or an annuity, which is paid out in one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments increasing by 5% every year.
Mega Millions drawings take place Tuesdays and Fridays at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
