Starting in 2026, the game is set to be facilitated by the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL), which already manages the Powerball, Lotto America, and several other top contenders.
Millionaire for Life will be a combination of two current lottery games — Lucky for Life and Cash4Life, according to the Montana Lottery.
Each gives Americans a chance at $1,000 every day for life, and winners of Lucky for Life can specifically choose $25,000 a year for life instead.
Rather than being another addition to this game-play style, Millionaire for Life will replace Cash4Life and Lucky for Life.

That way, Millionaire for Life can compete on the same level as Mega Millions, Powerball, and other top draw games.
The setup is also very similar, with players electing a set of five numbers from one pool and a singular sixth number from a second pool.
The only difference with Millionaire for Life is that the first pool of digits has 58 options to choose from and the second has just five.
With Powerball, there are 69 white ball numbers and 26 red Powerballs, and Mega Millions has 70 white ball numbers and 24 gold Mega Balls.

A grand prize of matching all six numbers in Millionaire for Life would award a player “an annuity prize of $1,000,000 a year for life.”
Matching just five from the first pool and none from the second would still pay players $100,000 a year for life as well, according to Montana Lottery documents obtained by NewsNation.
Several include $7,500, $500, $250, $50, $25, and two tiers of $8 prizes.
Odds of winning any of the prizes in the Millionaire for Life game are about one in 8.5, and the grand prize is one in 22,910,580.
That’s about 12 times better odds than the one in 292.2 million or one in 290.47 million odds for Powerball and Mega Millions grand prizes.
Additionally, multiple winners of the grand prize at the same time would split the annualized $1 million for life.
Some states have differing deadlines for when lottery players can claim prizes. Most allow a 180-day or one-year window before tickets expire and the money is forfeited. Below are the 180-day states:

That means, for example, if 20 players landed the six correct numbers for the jackpot, they’d each get $50,000 a year for life.
However, if there are multiple winners of the second-tier grand prize of $100,000 for life for matching five digits, each player gets the full amount.
This is regardless of how many winners there are, but if there are more than 20, a lump sum cash amount will go out to each instead of the annuitized $100,000 for life payments.
According to meeting minutes from the Connecticut Lottery Legislative and Games Committee, drawings for Millionaire for Life will be held every day at 10:15 pm CT once it launches next year.
A first drawing date is set for February 22, 2026, per minutes from the South Dakota Lottery Commission.
Tickets will be $5 per play, similar to the price bump Mega Millions made among several changes earlier this year.
States have to vote in favor of offering Millionaire for Life when it launches, and only a few have done so thus far, including Connecticut, Montana, and South Dakota.
