In Louisiana, any lottery win over $5,000 is subject to a 3% state tax deduction and 24% federal tax deduction, according to the Louisiana Lottery website. That means the winner will pay 27% in taxes off the top. On a $3.9 million win, the tax deductions total about $1.053 million, leaving about $2.8 million for the payout.
