Virginia Lottery reminds consumers to ‘gift responsibly’ this holiday season – WHSV
HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) – It’s the time of gifts and gift-giving, and the Virginia Lottery is reminding shoppers it is also the time to remember to gift responsibly.
The Virginia Lottery and the Virginia Council on Problem Gambling (VCPG) are reminding everyone that lottery tickets are never an appropriate gift for anyone younger than 18. In fact, it is against state law to give lottery tickets to minors.
“There have been numerous studies that show that the earlier a person starts gambling — the earlier that a youngster is exposed to gambling — the greater the likelihood that that person, when they grow up, could have a gambling problem. That’s one of the reasons why it’s so important to remember the age of a person who’s gambling,” Virginia Lottery spokesperson John Hagerty said.
Along with not gifting these items, Hagerty said children under 18 should never be involved in gambling that adults are partaking in, even if it’s deemed “helping.”

It is the 17th year that the Virginia Lottery has teamed up with VCPG, the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), the International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviors at McGill University and other lottery corporations around the globe to increase public awareness this holiday season about the impact of giving lottery products as gifts to children.
“Playing responsibly is very important here at the lottery, and we want to encourage responsible play and we want to raise awareness of gambling addiction. Gambling for most people is a harmless experience, but for some people, gambling can be addictive and very dangerous, and we want to shine a light on that,” Hagerty said.
The Virginia Lottery has a ”Play Responsibly” section of its website with more tips and resources. If you or someone you know is struggling with a gambling problem, you can call the helpline at 1-888-532-3500.

Vyaire Medical’s applications landscape has multiple ERPs, such as SAP ECC, JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics AX, SAP Business One, Pointman, and Made2Manage. Vyaire uses Salesforce as our CRM platform and the ServiceMax CRM add-on for managing field service capabilities. Vyaire developed a custom data integration platform, iDataHub, powered by AWS services such as AWS Glue, AWS Lambda, and Amazon API Gateway.
In this post, we share how we extracted data from SAP ERP using AWS Glue and the SAP SDK.
Vyaire is working on deploying the field service management solution ServiceMax (SMAX, a natively built on SFDC ecosystem), offering features and services that help Vyaire’s Field Services team improve asset uptime with optimized in-person and remote service, boost technician productivity with the latest mobile tools, and deliver metrics for confident decision-making.
A major challenge with ServiceMax implementation is building a data pipeline between ERP and the ServiceMax application, precisely integrating pricing, orders, and primary data (product, customer) from SAP ERP to ServiceMax using Vyaire’s custom-built integration platform iDataHub.
Vyaire’s iDataHub powered by AWS Glue has been effectively used for data movement between SAP ERP and ServiceMax.
AWS Glue a serverless data integration service that makes it easy to discover, prepare, and combine data for analytics, machine learning (ML), and application development. It’s used in Vyaire’s Enterprise iDatahub Platform for facilitating data movement across different systems, however the focus for this post is to discuss the integration between SAP ERP and Salesforce SMAX.
The following diagram illustrates the integration architecture between Vyaire’s Salesforce ServiceMax and SAP ERP system.
In the following sections, we walk through setting up a connection to SAP ERP using AWS Glue and the SAP SDK through remote function calls. The high-level steps are as follows:

The reason we choose Amazon Linux EC2 is to compile the SDK and PyRFC in a Linux environment, which is compatible with AWS Glue.
At the time of writing this post, AWS Glue’s latest supported Python version is 3.7. Ensure that the Amazon EC2 Linux Python version and AWS Glue Python version are the same. In the following instructions, we install Python 3.7 in Amazon EC2; we can follow the same instructions to install future versions of Python.

New Delhi: The Indian Army has launched ‘Operation SHIVA 2025’, a high-intensity annual security operation, aimed at ensuring the safe and uninterrupted conduct of the Shri Amarnath Yatra, officials said on Friday.
This year’s operation assumes added significance in the wake of elevated threats posed by Pakistan-backed proxy elements following Operation Sindoor.
Carried out in close coordination with the Civil Administration and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), the operation seeks to establish a robust security framework along both the northern and southern routes of the Yatra.
As part of the enhanced security arrangement for 2025, more than 8,500 troops have been deployed, backed by a comprehensive array of technological tools and operational measures.
A multi-layered counter-terrorism grid, preventive security deployments, and corridor protection strategies have been instituted.
Additionally, the Army is providing extensive support to civil authorities, particularly in areas of disaster response and emergency relief.
According to the Army, the key deployments and capabilities include a dedicated counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) grid, equipped with more than 50 C-UAS and electronic warfare systems, to neutralise potential drone threats.
Continuous unmanned aerial vehicle surveillance missions and live monitoring of both Yatra routes and the holy cave to maintain real-time situational awareness.
The deployment of engineer task forces to undertake bridge construction, track widening, and disaster mitigation operations.
The Army told on Friday that medical support includes more than 150 doctors and medical personnel, two advance dressing stations, nine medical aid posts, a 100-bed hospital, and 26 oxygen booths, collectively stocked with 2,00,000 litres of oxygen are parts of their preparations.
Dedicated signal companies for uninterrupted communication, Electronics and Mechanical engineers detachments for technical support, and bomb detection and disposal squads for threat neutralisation have also been deployed.
Provision of emergency rations for more than 25,000 individuals, supported by Quick Reaction Teams, tent cities, water points, and essential plant equipment such as bulldozers and excavators are also in place.
The Indian Army helicopters remain on standby to respond to any contingency situations swiftly.
The Army is also leveraging advanced surveillance tools, including high-resolution Pan-tilt-zoom cameras and live drone feeds, to track the movement of Yatra convoys between Jammu and the holy Amarnath cave.
This real-time monitoring allows for early threat detection and ensures prompt action.
The operation is further reinforced through multi-agency coordination, ensuring seamless information sharing and unified response across the security spectrum.
According to the Army, the ‘Operation SHIVA 2025’ underscores the Indian Army’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding the sacred pilgrimage and ensuring a safe, smooth, and spiritually enriching journey for all devotees.

Bitcoin could hit a price of $1.2 million by the year 2030.
Back in January 2022, Cathie Wood of Ark Invest first popularized the notion of Bitcoin (BTC 1.66%) soaring to a price of $1 million or higher by the year 2030. Since then, she's made several updates to that price target. Most recently, she updated that price target to $1.2 million.
Given Bitcoin's current price of $103,000, a future price of $1.2 million represents a staggering return on investment of almost 1,100% within a relatively short period of time. So does Bitcoin have what it takes to break through the $1 million price level?
One key driver for Bitcoin, Wood says, is the rate of institutional adoption. Quite simply, banks, financial institutions, and key fintech players are embracing Bitcoin at a rapid pace.
They are developing new products for Bitcoin, such as the new spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that launched in January 2024, finding new use cases for Bitcoin as a potentially disruptive financial technology, and acknowledging that Bitcoin is a stand-alone asset class worthy of inclusion in any truly diversified portfolio.
As Wood recently pointed out in a CNBC interview, "Bitcoin is a technology, a global monetary system, and a new asset class all wrapped in one." And, for that, investors have been willing to pay a hefty price tag.
For a growing number of investors, Bitcoin also plays an important role as a potential store of value. In the past, if investors were concerned about inflation eroding the value of their assets, they bought gold. Today, they buy Bitcoin, which has acquired the moniker digital gold.

In building out her firm's valuation model for Bitcoin, Wood has taken into account the growing use case of Bitcoin as digital gold by investors around the world. In a bull case scenario for Bitcoin, says Wood, it could be worth as much as 50% of the total market cap of gold.
Given that the total market cap of gold today is close to $28 trillion, that implies a minimum valuation of $14 trillion for Bitcoin within the next five years. That's approximately 7 times Bitcoin's current $2 trillion market cap.
Of course, just keep in mind that the argument that Bitcoin is digital gold is very much in question these days. If Bitcoin is digital gold, shouldn't it be more closely tracking the price of physical gold? That simply hasn't been the case in 2025. For the year, gold is up about 50%, while Bitcoin is only up 11%.
While a lofty price tag of $1.2 million is certainly impressive, it's actually a slight discount from where Wood earlier predicted Bitcoin might be headed. The previous price target was $1.5 million, but Wood recently suggested that stablecoins — cryptocurrencies pegged 1-to-1 to the value of a commodity or currency like the U.S. dollar — are taking over some of the roles that Bitcoin used to play, especially in emerging markets.
Quite simply, stablecoins are being used as digital dollars for payments, online transactions, and remittances in many parts of the world. That eats into the role that many originally envisioned for Bitcoin, which was launched as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system.
Although Bitcoin has been embraced as a form of payment in some parts of the world, it's still relatively rare to use it to pay for anything these days in the U.S. When was the last time you used Bitcoin to pay for a cup of coffee at your favorite cafe?
Yet, it's getting hard to ignore the chorus of voices now arguing that Bitcoin is headed for a price of $1 million soon. It's not just crypto industry insiders, either, who are predicting a $1 million price tag for Bitcoin. Silicon Valley entrepreneurs and Washington, D.C., political figures are now bandying about a price of $1 million for Bitcoin.
Just keep in mind, though, that the trajectory of Bitcoin has never been straight up. Yes, Bitcoin has grown exponentially over the past decade to hit a vertigo-inducing price of $103,000 today, but there have been numerous plunges and market reversals along the way.
So, if you are thinking about buying Bitcoin now, keep your focus on the long term. As Wood has documented in the past, Bitcoin continues to outperform every major asset class over a long enough period of time. But you need to be prepared to buy and hold Bitcoin for the long haul.
