BOSTON — Jaylen Brown scored 30 points, including 13 during a 20-3 run to end the first half that helped the Boston Celtics pull away from Cleveland to win 125-105 on Wednesday night and snap the Cavaliers’ three-game winning streak.
Sam Hauser scored 21 points off the bench for Boston, which has won two straight since opening the season with three losses in a row. Josh Minott had 14 rebounds, Neemias Queta had 13 and Payton Pritchard had 10 assists for the Celtics.
Evan Mobley scored 19 points with 11 rebounds and Jaylon Tyson also scored 19 for the Cavaliers. Donovan Mitchell made all four 3-point attempts for 12 points in the first quarter, when the Cavaliers led 42-40, but made just one of his last eight shots and finished with 15 points.
Boston led by 19 points midway through the third quarter and had a 98-80 advantage in the final two minutes of the third before Cleveland scored the next eight points. The Cavs never got closer than nine points from there, shooting 33% (8 for 24) in the fourth quarter as they failed to chip into Boston’s lead.
Boston’s only previous win this season was on Monday night, when they beat the winless New Orleans Pelicans.
The Cavaliers led by three points early in the second quarter and had a 57-55 lead with four minutes left in the half before Boston ran off 20 of the next 23 points to take a 15-point halftime lead.
Brown hit three 3-pointers down the stretch, making a 31-footer with 17 seconds left and then a step-back 26-footer at the buzzer to give the Celtics a 75-60 lead.
The teams combined for 18 3-pointers in the first quarter, one shy of the NBA record.
The Celtics had 20 assists in the first half.

Sir Keir Starmer has dismissed calls for an investigation into Chancellor Rachel Reeves after she apologised for breaking housing rules when renting out her family home.
In a letter to the prime minister, Reeves admitted she did not obtain a "selective" rental licence required to rent out her London home and "sincerely" apologised for her "inadvertent error".
In reply, the prime minister said he was happy the "matter can be drawn to a close" after consulting his independent ethics adviser, who has decided not to launch an investigation.
The Conservatives have called for an investigation and for Reeves to be sacked.
The exchange of letters between the PM and Reeves revealed they had met on Wednesday evening to discuss the matter, which was first reported in the Daily Mail.
Reeves told Sir Keir that "regrettably" she was not aware a licence was needed to rent out her Southwark home after moving into Downing Street last year.
Ms Reeves told Sir Keir: "This was an inadvertent mistake. As soon as it was brought to my attention, we took immediate action and have applied for the licence.
"I sincerely apologise for this error and I would be happy to answer any questions you may have."
In his letter in response, the prime minister said the public expected "the highest standards" and confirmed he had consulted with Sir Laurie, the ethics adviser whose findings have felled two ministers.
Sir Laurie had judged "further investigation is not necessary" given Reeves' swift action and apology, Sir Keir said.
Reeves' family home in London was put up for rent after Labour won the election in July 2024 for £3,200 a month.
It is in an area where Southwark Council requires private landlords to hold a selective licence.
Selective licences ensure landlords meet set standards, normally aimed at raising housing quality, fighting crime and boosting housing demand.
Reeves' allies admit she should have obtained a licence, but claim she was specifically told by the estate agents at the time that they would advise if she needed one.
The council's website states: "You can be prosecuted or fined if you're a landlord or managing agent for a property that needs a licence and do not get one."
Reeves or her letting agent now face an unlimited fine if Southwark Council takes the matter to court.
The revelations come at a politically awkward time for Reeves, who is preparing for a Budget next month amidst speculation the government could break a manifesto commitment not to raise income tax.
Writing on social media earlier, Badenoch said Sir Keir "once said 'lawmakers can't be lawbreakers'. If, as it appears, the chancellor has broken the law, then he will have to show he has the backbone to act."
A Conservative spokesperson added: "Rachel Reeves has broken the law and broken the ministerial code, but Keir Starmer is too weak to sack her.
"Keir Starmer pledged to restore integrity to politics, but now he's laughing in the face of the British public. He should grow a backbone and sack the chancellor now."
The Liberal Democrats' deputy leader Daisy Cooper said: "The chancellor is meant to be delivering growth but the only thing she appears to be growing is the government's list of scandals.
"Just weeks before the Budget, this risks seriously undermining confidence in this government and its ability to focus on the urgent tasks at hand."

Bitcoin price tumbled to $108,000 ahead of the Federal Reserve’s decision to cut interest rates by 0.25%. The drop came despite widespread expectations for the rate cut among traders and analysts.
The cryptocurrency fell 6% from its Monday rally to $116,400. This decline surprised some market watchers given that the rate cut was fully priced into the market.
The Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Market Committee lowered its benchmark overnight borrowing rate to a range of 3.75% to 4%. The decision was in line with the 100% consensus among analysts for a 0.25% cut.
Bitcoin’s price action ran counter to trader expectations. Many believed rate cuts would support cryptocurrency prices in the near term.
The Fed also announced it would end quantitative tightening on December 1. This marks a shift toward easier financial conditions after two years of tighter monetary policy.
Analysts at Hyblock noted that recent history shows the FOMC typically leads to a price drop in Bitcoin followed by a move up. This pattern occurred in both no rate change and rate cut scenarios.
Bitcoin briefly fell to $108,000 on Thursday after a meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The overnight decline extended from $113,000 to $110,000.
Fed Chair Jerome Powell downplayed the certainty of a rate cut in December during his press conference. This comment triggered the additional selling pressure.

Trump announced that US tariffs on China would be lowered to 47% from 57%. He spoke about the agreement aboard Air Force One following the meeting in South Korea.
The president said it was a one-year agreement that would be extended. He also stated the rare earths issue has been settled with no more roadblocks.

XRP and Dogecoin led losses among major cryptocurrencies with a 4% slide. Ether, Solana’s SOL, BNB and Cardano’s ADA showed losses as much as 3%.
The Fed’s dot plot currently shows a baseline of three cuts in 2025. Goldman Sachs analysts predict at least two more 0.25% rate cuts by March and June of 2026.
This would place the Fed’s benchmark rate in the 3% to 3.25% range. The lower rates signal the beginning of easier financial conditions.
Bitcoin and other non-yielding assets tend to benefit as liquidity returns to the market. Investors typically rotate out of cash-heavy positions into growth and alternative stores of value.
Ending balance sheet runoff on December 1 will reintroduce net liquidity to the system. This eases pressure on banks and improves market depth across risk assets.
Traders are now focused on factors beyond the rate cuts. Growing US job layoffs, the impact of Trump’s tariff policies, and questions about the artificial intelligence sector are all on investors’ minds.
Trump said he would be going to China in April. Xi would come to the US at some stage after that, according to comments carried by Reuters.
