After no grand prize winner from the Friday, Oct. 31 drawing, the Mega Millions jackpot for Tuesday, Nov. 4 is up to $800 million with a cash value of $371.7 million. That makes it the ninth largest jackpot in the game’s history.

Serious concerns are being raised among Maltese financial services operators, over a possible bid by a ‘risky’ international online gambling company to take over a substantial stake in Malta’s National Lottery operations for the next ten years.
Several Lotto Receivers, agents of Maltco Lotteries, who spoke to The Shift on condition of anonymity, said that Lottoland has been in talks with Maltco over a possible joint bid. This has sparked alarm in stakeholders in the industry: the Gibraltar-based company, involved in the organization of synthetic online lotteries, has been sanctioned in several jurisdictions for compliance breaches, and already faces a raft of fines by the respective regulatory authorities.
The Lotto Receivers expressed concerns over their future if the government decides to grant the concession to “a company with a very bad compliance track record”.
“We are very worried over the future of our business. The government can’t get this wrong and we are very surprised that Maltco is trying to join Lottoland in a new bid. This does not augur well for us,” the Lotto agents complained.
Originally set up and run by the Government, the National Lottery, which include the popular Super 5 and Lotto games, was privatised in 2004. The ten-year concession has been twice awarded to Maltco – which is majority owned by the Greek company Intralot. The latter has, over the past fears, been struggling in various jurisdictions and has seen its share price drop significantly.
Now, as Maltco’s second term concession is coming to an end, the Maltese government has re-opened the concession asking for bids for a new licence to run to 2032.
Lottoland operates parallel online lotteries in various jurisdictions. It has no experience in the running and operations of national lotteries and is currently on the radar of various regulators, including the UK, over breaches of anti-money laundering and other rules.
Asked to state whether Maltco has been in talks with Lottoland over a possible joint bid, a spokesman for Maltco declined to reply.
On the other hand, a spokesman for Lottoland did not rule out a possible bid, insisting that it has no comments to make at this time.
“Lottoland does not speculate on market rumours and has no comment to make on this matter,” the spokesman said.
Sources confirmed to The Shift that Maltco – the incumbent concessionaire that has been running the Maltese National Lottery since 2004 – is currently trying to find a partner to reduce its share in the running of Malta’s lotteries.
The sources also confirmed that Lottoland is the preferred partner of Maltco in a possible joint bid over a new concession which is up for grabs for the next ten years.
Asked whether Maltco will be submitting a new bid, which is to reach the government’s privatisation unit by the beginning of next month, Maltco declined to confirm its interest.
Sources said that the possible entrance of Lottoland in the local market would signify a further negative effect on Malta’s international reputation in the financial services industry, currently already under siege due to the recent grey listing by the FATF.
Lottoland, which also operates a small office in Malta, is already in trouble in various jurisdictions and has lately attracted a lot of negative publicity.
Just last week, the UK’s Gambling Commission fined Lottoland £760,000 and issued a formal warning for failures in social responsibility and anti-money laundering rules.
In 2017, the same company agreed to pay £150,000 to settle UK claims that its advertising at the time was not sufficiently clear in stating that customers were betting on an outcome, rather than buying a lottery ticket.
In 2019, Lottoland was fined £59,000 by the Swedish gambling regulator over wrongdoing in relation to bets on the Swedish EuroJackpot lottery.
The company has also had problems in Malta.
Recently, the Maltese Courts endorsed the local VAT Department’s efforts to collect nearly €10 milliom in due VAT that German tax collectors say Lottoland owes in Germany. The courts ruled that evidence presented by the Maltese officials was sufficient to demonstrate the legitimacy of the German tax authorities’ claims against Lottoland’s Malta subsidiary.
According to Lottoland’s spokesperson, “the German authorities have now withdrawn the claim”.

Mississippi Lottery Celebrates 6th Anniversary with Month-long Cash 3 Prize Boost
JACKSON, MISS. – The Mega Millions jackpot continues to climb after no ticket matched all six numbers in the Friday, Oct. 31^st drawing bringing the estimated jackpot for tonight’s drawing to a staggering $800 million, with an estimated cash value of $371.7 million.
This marks the 37th drawing since the last Mega Millions jackpot worth $348 million with a $155.5 million cash value was hit June 27 in Virginia. If the jackpot is hit tonight, it would be the 9^th largest in the game’s history.
Players can enter for a chance to win by purchasing tickets for $5 per play. All tickets include an automatic multiplier that can increase non-jackpot prizes up to five times. Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 p.m. CT.

To celebrate its 6th anniversary, the Mississippi Lottery is giving players the gift of triple Cash 3 prizes all month long through its “Cash 3 Times 3” promotion, running Nov. 1–30.
During the promotion, all Cash 3 prizes are automatically tripled with no extra cost or special play slip required. Cash 3 tickets start at 50 cents per play, and drawings occur twice daily at 2:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Louisville man won $250,000 after playing a $10 Wild Cash 100X Kentucky Lottery scratch-off ticket.
According to lottery officials, the man bought the ticket at Circle K on Mud Lane in Louisville and scanned it there, where he discovered his $250,000 win.
“I was like full panic mode,” he said.
The man, according to lottery officials, walked away with $180,000 after taxes and plans to use it towards his finances.
Lottery officials say that Circle K will get $2,500 for selling the winning ticket.

An Edinburgh hairdresser has described her “surprise” after Dame Prue Leith stopped by to get her hair done ahead of a charity event in the city.
The Great British Bake Off judge and her husband John Playfair made the unexpected visit to the Craig Davidson Hair salon in Bruntsfield on Tuesday morning.
The couple live in Gloucestershire but were in Edinburgh to attend the Women of Achievement lunch at Archer’s Hall.
They had been staying with a friend who recommended the salon to them.
Salon manager Ashley Wilson said when she took a call on Monday afternoon to book in Prue Leith, she had no idea it would be the culinary star.
“I took a phone call yesterday afternoon from somebody local who uses the salon, asking to book Prue Leith in,” she explained.
“Obviously, we’re not expecting it to be ‘the’ Prue Leith, so we just didn’t think too much about.
“Then the more we thought about, I thought no, it’s got to be, and definitely right enough, she came in with her husband.”
She added: “It was a surprise for me”.
Dame Prue arrived wearing one of her signature colourful dresses with matching glasses and earrings, and she and her husband sat side-by-side while salon staff worked on their hair.
Ms Wilson, who was tasked with blow-drying Dame Prue’s hair to her “exact spec”, described the Bake Off star as “an absolute delight”.
She said: “She was super-friendly, witty, just really warm, really nice.
“A really nice woman, nice to chat to her.”
Asked whether Dame Prue had let slip anything about who would win the Bake Off final, which airs on Tuesday night, Ms Wilson said: “She was saying nothing, absolutely nothing.
“Obviously that’s super-secret, so (there was) minimal, minimal chat on Bake Off.”
She said it had been a been a “privilege” to work on Dame Prue’s hair.

“It was really exciting. She was a really nice woman and I was really privileged to have met her and actually got to work on her hair,” she said.
“It was a big deal for me, I’m delighted.
“That wasn’t on my bingo card for today.”
Salon owner Craig Davidson, who set up the business on Bruntsfield Place 30 years ago, cut Mr Playfair’s hair during the surprise visit.
He said it was “really nice” to see the couple come to his salon, and that it is “great publicity” for a small local business.
Asked whether Mr Playfair had divulged anything about the Bake Off final, he replied: “There were no spoilers.
“As I was cutting her husband’s hair, he said he would be divorced if he said who won it, so he was keeping tight-lipped.
“But I did joke that John had told me, so we had a good laugh.”
At the end of the visit Dame Prue posed for photos with salon staff, before the pair headed off for their charity engagement.
In a social media post following the visit, the salon shared a picture of Dame Prue posing alongside staff and a stand of cupcakes.
The caption read: “Proof that great hair is the secret ingredient. Loved having Prue Leith with us today.”
The Great British Bake Off final airs at 8pm on Tuesday on Channel 4.
