Texas Lottery Makes History With $1.8B Powerball Prize – Play USA

Texas joins Powerball history as a Fredericksburg trust claims half of the $1.8B jackpot, the state’s biggest win ever.
Officials have confirmed two winning tickets from the Sept. 6 Powerball drawing worth a record $1.8 billion. The Seven Bridges Revocable Trust of Fredericksburg, Texas, won half of the grand prize and chose the cash option, receiving about $410.3 million before taxes. The other half went to a ticket sold in Missouri.
The Seven Bridges Revocable Trust’s win marks the largest lottery prize ever awarded in Texas and the second-largest jackpot in both Powerball and US lottery history.
The Texas winner usually selects random numbers when playing Powerball. For this drawing, however, they chose numbers with personal significance. After purchasing the ticket, they noticed one of the numbers differed from the one they had meant to choose.
Fortunately, that small change didn’t affect the outcome. The winning numbers were 11, 23, 44, 61, 62 and the Powerball number was 17. The player realized they had won the next morning while driving to church. They pulled over, checked the ticket several times to be sure it was correct, and then placed it in the glove compartment before heading inside.
The jackpot came after a record 42 consecutive rollovers. The second winning ticket for the Sept. 6 drawing was sold in Missouri and claimed later that month. Both winners will receive an equal share of the annuitized $1.8 billion prize.
A representative for the Seven Bridges Revocable Trust called the win “a blessing” for the family. Through their attorney, the representative said the trust plans to enjoy the prize with loved ones and support people who serve their community.
The trust requested privacy as they begin this new chapter, saying they want to continue living normal lives. Using a trust to claim major prizes has become common practice, allowing winners to maintain security and peace of mind.
The Texas Lottery Commission confirmed the claim and congratulated the winner. Executive Director Courtney Arbour called it a historic moment for the state, noting it is the largest prize ever awarded to a Texas Lottery player.
Arbour said the win demonstrates how one ticket can transform a life while benefiting public programs. Lottery revenue supports education and veterans’ services across Texas. Officials said large jackpots attract strong player interest and bring positive attention to the lottery.
The jackpot began at $20 million on June 2 and rolled over 42 times before the winning numbers were drawn. The run set a new Powerball record for consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner and resulted in the second-largest lottery prize ever awarded in the United States.
Texas joined Powerball in 2010, and this marks the state’s third Powerball jackpot win. Previously, an Austin resident shared a $564.1 million prize with two other winners in 2015.
The winning Texas ticket was purchased at Big’s 103, a gas station and convenience store on U.S. Highway 290 in Fredericksburg. The store received a $250,000 retailer bonus for selling the jackpot ticket.
Employees said customers have been excited and proud that the winning ticket came from their town. Locals have stopped by to take photos and see where the ticket was sold, bringing a surge in attention and foot traffic. The win has become a point of pride for the Fredericksburg community.
The Texas Lottery Commission oversees the state’s lottery program. Since sales began in 1992, the lottery has distributed more than $93 billion in prizes and generated over $41.5 billion in revenue for the state. Since 1997, it has contributed about $35.5 billion to public education and more than $279 million to veterans’ programs.
Officials expect the record jackpot to increase interest in future drawings. They also note that more winners are using trusts to protect their privacy. While a winning ticket can change lives, officials continue to emphasize the importance of responsible play.

EuroMillions: Winners of €250m jackpot in Ireland are family syndicate – BBC

The winners of the €250m (£216m) EuroMillions jackpot have said they plan to remain in Ireland but have been looking at holiday homes in the sun.
A member of the family syndicate – who have chosen to remain anonymous – bought the winning ticket at Clifford's Centra in Cork city in the Republic of Ireland while running errands.
The winning buyer said they were a regular lottery player but had not bought a ticket for the previous two EuroMillions draws.
Despite the unexpected windfall, the family said they planned to stay down to earth.
"We're planning to remain in Ireland, and we promised ourselves that we won't let this win change us," a family member said.
Another added: "I'll still be having my favourite ham and cheese sambo for lunch every day."
"We're absolutely going on a family holiday. We love to travel and there's so many amazing trips we've always dreamed of that we can now make a reality.
"We're already looking at holiday homes somewhere in the sun."
The family said they checked their ticket after learning that the jackpot had been won in Ireland while watching the news.
A family member said they " couldn't believe my eyes" after a message on the National Lottery app revealed they had "won big".
"I ran upstairs to my wife who had just gone to bed and woke her up", they added.
"We both checked the numbers multiple times on the website. We sat at the edge of the bed, saying 'Oh my god' over and over – I reckon we said it about 50 times.
"We were in total shock, complete disbelief."
The winning numbers were 13, 22, 23, 44, 49, Lucky Stars 3 and 5.
Niall Long, 33, and Luke Taylor, 27, were both found guilty of Mr Quilligan's murder last week last week.
It is understood that viewers watching the rollover saw the programme abruptly cut off.
Becky Gilmour set out on her coastal journey to help "open up the conversation around suicide".
The remains of Kieran Quilligan, 47, were found in a bag down a ravine after he had been missing for five months.

Skidding Grizzlies, Mavericks square off in NBA Cup action – CBS Sports

If not listed, please contact your TV provider.
There’s trouble brewing in the first few weeks of the NBA season for the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies, who play host to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night in an NBA Cup game, have lost four straight and their top two players — All-Stars Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. — are struggling in new coach Tuomas Iisalo’s system.
In Wednesday’s 124-109 loss to the Houston Rockets, Jackson, averaging 17 points per game, attempted only one shot in the opening half and six in total. He finished the game with nine points in 29 minutes.
The story was similar in Monday’s home loss to the Detroit Pistons. Jackson attempted only three shots in the first half.
Jackson’s number of field-goal attempts per game (11.7) is at its lowest point since 2020-21. Jackson averaged more than 22 points in each of the past two seasons.
Jackson doesn’t place the blame on Iisalo’s system. He said he’s got to take responsibility.
“You just got to be aggressive,” Jackson said. “You just got to be in attack mode.”
Iisalo said the Grizzlies need to be more persistent getting the ball to Jackson. His teammates have been reluctant to go back to him if there’s solid defensive pressure on the first try. Iisalo is convinced Jackson’s shot attempts and offensive production will increase soon.
“Maybe there’s a moment of being discouraged of not getting the ball there, and we got to get over that and look to get the ball in his hands more,” Iisalo said.
Morant, suspended for Sunday’s game at Toronto for postgame comments directed at the Memphis coaching staff, has had a frustrating time getting into an offensive flow. Morant made 11 of 35 field goals in the past two games and only one of 11 3-point tries.
The team’s struggles from deep haven’t been limited to Morant. Memphis ranks 25th in the league in 3-point percentage.
Dallas is having its problems too. Minus the injured Kyrie Irving (knee) for the long run and Anthony Davis (calf) in the short team, the Mavericks have lost three straight and are 2-6 overall.
Mavericks coach Jason Kidd attempted to shake things up by moving veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson to the second unit in Wednesday’s 101-99 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Thompson came off the bench for the first time as a Maverick and finished with 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting in 21 minutes.
“I talked to Klay and said this isn’t a permanent thing, but can you come off the bench?” Kidd said. “And he was good with it. I thought him coming off the bench gave us a spark. That first group, for whatever reason, was a little tight. Everyone was trying to play perfect.”
Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 overall draft pick this summer, had one of his better outings. He finished with 20 points, nine rebounds and three steals.
“I thought I just played natural,” Flagg said. “I’ve got to keep working on moving the ball and attacking mismatches.
“But no one’s happy (with the rough start). I wouldn’t say anybody’s happy. Everyone’s trying to stay level-headed. It’s not fun to keep losing games.”
