Students walk down Pattee Mall on Sunday, Sept. 6, 2025 in University Park, Pa.
Between classes, jobs and extracurriculars, some Penn State students feel like there’s little room left for friendships.
Days can fill quickly with assignments, work and club meetings, leaving students to wonder how they can stay connected without adding more stress to their schedules.
Ashley Frazer and Dani London first met during their Educational Psychology 14 class freshman year. Now, as third-year students both majoring in elementary and early childhood education, the two said they’ve learned to make time for each other in simple ways.
Walking across campus together, grabbing lunch at the HUB-Robeson Center, working out or studying at the library gives them a chance to catch up without adding extra stress.
“As long as we’re making an effort, it works,” London said. “It doesn’t have to be a big plan, even just a few minutes to catch up makes a difference.”
Frazer said combining schoolwork with social time helps her feel less overwhelmed.
Students lounge on Old Main Lawn on Thursday, April 24, 2025 in University Park, Pa.
She often invites London to join her at the library or at Starbucks so they can do homework side by side. Even if they’re focused on assignments, the chance to share space and talk during breaks adds balance to their day.
Karen Bierman, a professor of psychology, said research backs up these kinds of connections.
She added that the benefits are especially strong during major transitions.
“During life transitions, such as the college years, supportive friendships help with coping, engagement and problem-solving and enhance feelings of well-being,” Bierman said.
Associate Teaching Professor of Psychology Beth Gerace said maintaining a healthy long-term friendship means supporting each other, but also acknowledging differences in lifestyles.
Gerace added that friends should be open to the fact that things might change and feel different over four years of college, and that’s healthy.
“The most important thing is to support each other in your separate endeavors,” Gerace said.
Frazer and London said they’ve learned not to expect constant plans, and instead focus on effort and intention. Sending a short text to check in or planning a quick coffee break has helped them maintain closeness during the busiest weeks of the semester.
Ajani Knorr, a second-year studying aerospace engineering, left, and Kevin Feng, a fourth-year studying material science, right, throw a frisbee on the HUB Lawn on Tuesday, Apr. 1, 2025 in University Park, Pa.
London said she believes this mindset has kept their friendship from fading.
“It’s the reassurance that our friendship is built into my schedule that makes long stretches of assignments feel lighter,” London said.
For Frazer, even just laughing with London when things get overwhelming helps take the pressure off.
“Sometimes that’s all I need — just someone who gets it,” Frazer said.

7 Tips to Keep You Safe From Online Doxing – Inside Higher Ed

Experts offer solutions to prevent doxing and advice about how to respond and keep yourself safe if it happens to you.

Complex passwords and two-factor authentication might be annoying, but they help keep you safe from online harassment and hacks.

Over the past 10 days, dozens of faculty and staff members have had their personal contact information, photos and sometimes addresses broadcast online by anonymous right-wing social media accounts seeking to punish them for comments they allegedly made about the death of conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk. This public campaign of online harassment and intimidation, known as doxing, is “off the charts” right now, said Heather Steffen, an adjunct professor of humanities at Georgetown University.
Steffen is also the director of Faculty First Responders, a group created by the American Association of University Professors in 2020 to track and help faculty members targeted by right-wing media. Doxing has been on the rise since protests over the Israel-Hamas war fractured campuses in 2023, but educators are increasingly coming under attack in “ideologically motivated efforts” to silence dissent, according to an August report from the National Association of Attorneys General. “This shift signals the evolution of doxxing from isolated conduct to a more coordinated form of digital persecution,” the report said.
While the attacks are becoming more frequent and sophisticated, higher ed employees can take steps to minimize the risk of doxing, as well as the damage incurred if it does happen.
1. Keep your personal and work accounts separate.
Remove employers’ names from all of your personal social media accounts—if it’s in your bio, take it out, Steffen advised. “You can state in your bio on social media that your views do not represent your employer, and you don’t need to name the employer in order to do that,” she said.
In many cases, work may demand that you list some contact information publicly, but don’t use that information for personal business, said Rob Shavell, CEO and co-founder of DeleteMe, a service that will find and try to wipe members’ personal information from the web. “The data brokers are getting very good at correlating [work and personal] data and putting them into one dossier,” he said. These days, when DeleteMe’s privacy advisers scan the web for members’ information, they return an average of 750 pieces of personally identifying information per person, up from 225 pieces four years ago.
Also, be aware of what devices, accounts and Wi-Fi networks you’re using, and be sure not to use work-provided equipment or resources for anything other than work, Steffen added.
2. Scrub your information from data-broker websites.
Data brokers collect and sell personal information. Companies like DeleteMe and Incogni will remove your personal information from data-broker websites for a fee; DeleteMe charges $129 per member annually. But for anyone who wants to take a do-it-yourself approach, DeleteMe has published free opt-out guides that walk readers through removing their information from the sites, including Experian, TransUnion and CoreLogic. Steffen also suggests following the steps outlined in the Big Ass Data Broker Opt-Out List, a Github project that explains how to scrub your information from data brokers.
3. Use an email mask or alias when possible.
“Masked emails or phone numbers or even credit cards allow you to sign up for things or make calls or buy things without revealing to every counterparty your real personal information,” Shavell said. DeleteMe offers masking, as do companies like Apple and NordPass. These services create a faux address that will then forward emails to your real account. Google also offers free alias phone numbers through Google Voice that will forward calls to your personal phone. In addition to better security, masking also decreases spam and phishing risks.
4. Breathe before you post (and remember the risk of screenshots).
Even if you’re posting to a private account—say, a “close friends” story on your personal Instagram—anything you put online can still be screenshotted and shared widely, Steffen warned. “Anytime you’re posting or reposting something, a good tool can be to pause and think: Would I be comfortable with my employer, my students and my community knowing that I hold this view, and would I be comfortable with them seeing it expressed in this way?” she said.
5. Protect your accounts with complex passwords and two-factor authentication.
It’s boring, but it’s important, said Viktorya Vilk, director for digital safety and free expression at the nonprofit PEN America, which offers digital safety training to colleges and universities and has created a “what to do” resource for people who have been doxed. “If someone hacks into your Facebook or your email, it’s so hard to get that account back. And it’s also incredibly intrusive and unsettling,” she said. “Having a long, secure password and two-factor authentication makes it almost impossible for someone to be able to hack into your account.”
6. In the event you are doxed: Center yourself, and then secure your physical safety.
“People often have a fight, flight or freeze response. It can be incredibly traumatizing and so very difficult to take steps or use your judgment about what to do when you’re being doxed,” Vilk said. “And so, counterintuitively, the very first thing to do is to take a minute and try to center yourself. For some people that’s taking some deep breaths. For other people, it’s just, like, moving around, wiggling around.”
After that, make sure you’re physically safe, she advised. If your address has been shared, consider staying at a hotel or with friends or family until the storm passes. Consider contacting law enforcement to report the threats, file a police report and let them know you’re at increased risk for swatting—a harassment tactic that involves making a false emergency call in order to dispatch law enforcement to a specific location.
7. Once you are physically safe, document the harassment and lock down your accounts.
Set your social accounts to private mode if they’re not already, and take any steps to limit visibility of your posts, Vilk said. “That’s very easy to switch back after the storm dies down,” she added. Be careful communicating with unfamiliar accounts, emails or phone numbers, and document any threats or harassment you receive. Don’t download attachments or click on links from unknown senders, and do a quick search online to find out more about them before responding.
“Take screenshots when you receive them and then report them to the platform where they’re happening. That can be really stressful, so we really recommend that people recruit friends or family or trusted colleagues to help them do that so that they’re not doing it alone,” Vilk said.
Your cellphone number can also be stolen. “If it starts to circulate online, people will call your cellphone company and pretend to be you and try to reroute traffic,” she said. Protect your number by calling the company and placing a PIN on your account.

Texas A&M president resigning following backlash over video of gender identity discussion in classroom – CBS News

Watch CBS News
/ CBS Texas
Retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Mark Welsh, the president of Texas A&M University, will resign Friday in the wake of criticism over the fallout from the release earlier this month of a video that showed a student confronting a professor over class curriculum surrounding gender identity.
“President Welsh is a man of honor who has led Texas A&M with selfless dedication,” Chancellor Glenn Hegar said in a statement announcing the resignation. “We are grateful for his service and contributions. At the same time, we agree that now is the right moment to make a change and to position Texas A&M for continued excellence in the years ahead.”
Welsh last week fired the professor, later identified to CBS News Texas as Melissa McCoul, amid political backlash from Texas lawmakers over the video, and also demoted two high-ranking officials at Texas A&M University — the College of Arts and Sciences dean and the head of the English Department.
In the video that captures the encounter — which has been circulating on the internet — the student cites executive orders signed by President Trump and questions the legality of the teachings in the children’s literature class.
“I’m not entirely sure this is legal to be teaching because according to our president, there’s only two genders and he said he would be freezing agencies’ funding programs that promote gender ideology. And this also very much goes against, not only myself but a lot of people’s religious beliefs,” a student’s voice is heard saying in the video.
“If you are uncomfortable in this class you do have the right to leave,” another voice, believed to be the professor, responds after a brief back-and-forth.
Texas state Rep. Brian Harrison posted the video on X on Sept. 8 and called for the Trump administration to investigate the school and fire the officials involved.
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott advocated for the professor’s firing in a social media post, writing that she acted “contrary to Texas law.”
Harmeet Dhillon, who serves as the assistant attorney general for civil rights in the Justice Department, called the video “deeply concerning” and said her division will “look into” the matter.
Neither the student nor the professor are visible in the video, which Harrison said his office received from a whistleblower. It is not clear when it was recorded.
An attorney for McCoul told CBS News Texas she has appealed her termination. The attorney also said that his client taught the course for years and was never told to change it.
When reached by CBS News, Texas A&M said the involved student chose not to be publicly identified.
Mr. Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office proclaiming that, “It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female. These sexes are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.” The executive order also prohibits federal grants from being used to promote gender ideology.
In a letter written to Abbott, Harrison alleged that the professor taught that “childhood is the time for figuring out how to be a boy, girl, man, woman, or another gender,” and that “children and adolescents are expected to be sexless, even as our culture valorizes, idealizes, and even eroticizes youth.”
Amid mounting political pressure, Welsh announced on Sept. 9 his decision to fire the professor and demote the school officials involved, following a “full consideration of the facts,” he said in a statement.
Welsh said in that statement he learned about the content of the course over the summer, but changes that were discussed with the professor were not addressed, and “the college continued to teach content that was inconsistent with the published course description for another course this fall.”
Moving forward, Welsh said, departments across the university will undergo an audit process to ensure course offerings and descriptions match.
“This isn’t about academic freedom; it’s about academic responsibility,” Welsh said in his statement last week. “Our degree programs and courses go through extensive approval processes, and we must ensure that what we ultimately deliver to students is consistent with what was approved.”
The professor’s firing prompted criticism from some education advocates.
“We’re witnessing the death of academic freedom in Texas,” Jonathan Friedman of PEN America, a literacy advocacy group, said in a statement last week. “Firing academic leaders to appease politicians is excessive and suffocates free speech and open inquiry on campus.”
Welsh has served as school president since 2023 following the resignation of M. Katherine Banks.

Pi Network Price Slips on September 19 — Fed Rate Cut Fails to Lift Pi Coin – Pintu

Jakarta, Pintu News – The price of Pi Network has begun to stabilize after experiencing a gradual decline over the past few weeks, but is still at its lowest price range.
Despite global markets showing optimism after yesterday’s interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve, PI prices have yet to show a positive response to risk-on market sentiment.
Conversely, PI’s price movements remain weak and the lack of demand could be a major pressure on the cryptocurrency’s prospects going forward. So, how will the Pi Network price move today?
On September 19, 2025, the price of Pi Network was recorded at $0.3583, a slight correction of 0.7% in 24 hours. If converted to the current rupiah ($1 = IDR 16,566), then 1 Pi Network is IDR 5,861.
Read also: Pi Network Heads to TOKEN2049: Could This Be the Catalyst for a $1 Pi Coin?
Based on data from CoinGecko, the price of PI had moved in the range between $0.3573 to $0.3625 in that period.
PI’s market capitalization now stands at around $2.91 billion, with a fully diluted valuation of $4.48 billion. Trading volume in the last 24 hours stood at $31.54 million, reflecting fairly steady market activity despite some selling pressure.
On September 18, PI prices briefly hovered around the $0.36 support zone – a level that has served as a buffer several times during selling pressure. However, repeated retests of this area signaled that the buying strength was starting to weaken.
On the upside, the nearest resistance level is around $0.38. Unfortunately, momentum indicators are not yet in favor of a potential quick recovery. The Money Flow Index (MFI) has started to move down, signaling that buying pressure is diminishing.
Meanwhile, the 20-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA) also shows a downward trend, which consistently hampers PI’s price recovery efforts and acts as a strong resistance.
Furthermore, the chart shows a rising wedge pattern – a technical formation that is bearish in nature and indicates weakening momentum, as well as the potential for further price declines if selling pressure increases.
If the price of PI is unable to break and hold above its short-term EMA, then this crypto asset is at risk of further consolidation or even a deeper correction.
In general, the Fed’s rate cut should have increased liquidity into riskier assets such as stocks and cryptocurrencies. However, PI price pressure seems to be more due to internal weakness than macroeconomic impact.
Unlike other major cryptocurrencies that are quick to respond to changes in global liquidity, PI is still burdened by low trading volumes and declining speculative interest. While overall market risk appetite may be improving, the lack of strong demand drivers for PI could hamper any potential positive impact.
In short, monetary policy easing alone is unlikely to be enough to reverse the long-standing downward trend in PI prices – it will take a clear catalyst or increased market interest to change sentiment.

On the other hand, talk about Pi Network in the community is still quite active, but the tone is getting more cautious. Holders are starting to worry that the current price stability at low levels could be the start of a further decline.
Meanwhile, speculative traders seem reluctant to allocate new capital in the absence of a clear breakout signal. This divergence between a community that remains supportive and cautious trading activity points to a key challenge in the current PI price movement.
In the daily chart (18/9), the price of Pi Network is seen moving in a descending triangle pattern and has not managed to break the resistance line. Amidst this, the Ichimoku Cloud is below the current PI price, indicating strong resistance and potentially pushing the price to lower levels.
If this bearish scenario occurs, the market value of PI could drop all the way to $0.32. However, there is still a chance for recovery. If sentiment improves, the token’s price could potentially rise to around $0.64.
Under extremely bullish market conditions, PI could even reach levels as high as $0.83. In conclusion, although the current PI price looks stable in the low area, the underlying situation is still fragile and vulnerable to further pressure.

Dogecoin Slips Slightly as ETF Expectations Spark a Wave of Selling – Pintu

Jakarta, Pintu News – Dogecoin has experienced a price surge in recent days, driven by expectations of a possible DOGE ETF launch. The meme coin has continued to register a gradual rise, but the surge has also been accompanied by a massive wave of sell-offs from investors, including large holders.
Despite the profit-taking, the bullish momentum persists, making DOGE a major highlight in the crypto market today. So, how will Dogecoin price move today?
On September 19, 2025, Dogecoin saw a modest decline of 1.57% over the past 24 hours, trading at $0.2768 — approximately IDR 4,575. During that period, DOGE fluctuated between IDR 4,535 and IDR 4,731.
As of this writing, Dogecoin’s market capitalization is around IDR 691.92 trillion, with a 24-hour trading volume of approximately IDR 66.41 trillion.
Read also: Dogecoin ETF Excitement Fades as Whales Pull Back and Traders Race to Sell
Dogecoin balances on exchanges have soared sharply so far this month, signaling that investors are preparing to sell. Since the beginning of September, around 5.81 billion DOGE – worth more than $1.63 billion – has been moved across various trading platforms.
This spike reflects the increased caution among traders, despite the market’s enthusiasm regarding the potential approval of the DOGE ETF.
The ETF’s optimism-driven price increase creates a strategic opportunity for investors to secure profits. While this selling pressure has so far failed to halt Dogecoin’s price rise, it does raise concerns about the sustainability of the bullish trend.
If profit-taking becomes more massive, the positive momentum could weaken in the next few trading sessions.
The Coin Days Destroyed (CDD) indicator also provided new warning signals. For the first time in over a month, long-term holders started moving their assets. Historically, this kind of activity is often interpreted as the first step before a major sell-off, and is usually a bearish signal.
Previously, long-term holders have provided stability to the market by not selling heavily. However, their recent moves indicate a potential vulnerability in the market.
If these large wallets begin to liquidate, the resulting selling pressure could threaten Dogecoin’s price gains and erode investor confidence – even amid positive sentiment regarding the ETF.
Read also: Pi Network Price Slips on September 19 — Fed Rate Cut Fails to Lift Pi Coin
As of September 18, Dogecoin was trading at $0.282, registering a gain of around 17% in the past week. The meme-themed crypto asset is slightly below an important resistance level at $0.287, while trying to maintain $0.273 as a key support level that could be a determinant of price direction in the short term.
However, if inflows to exchanges and profit-taking continue to suppress market momentum, DOGE risks losing support at $0.273. If the breakdown occurs, the Dogecoin price could drop towards $0.241, which would be a trend reversal of the recent rally and raise a signal of caution for traders.
However, according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas, if the DOGE ETF launch does happen today, market sentiment could change drastically. In that scenario, DOGE is likely to break the $0.287 level and test $0.300, potentially even going higher.
As of now, the Doge ETF $DOJE is slated for Thursday launch, as is a 40 Act spot XRP ETF $XRPR (which was in the same prospectus that went effective, Trump and Bonk also in there too, but no word on launch date for those yet) https://t.co/q20takMsAe
If that happens, the current selling pressure could be fully covered, and the bearish scenario would become irrelevant.

Pi Coin price today is trading near $0.344, down slightly after failing to hold momentum above $0.35. The token continues to hover near its lower consolidation range, with buyers defending the $0.33 support zone. Meanwhile, supply dynamics are shifting as the Pi Network reduces its base mining rate, adding a fundamental layer to the ongoing technical battle.

XRP News: Ripple CEO Expects ETF Approval Before 2026, Remittix Set To Jump Over 5,000% – Cryptopolitan

XRP News is back in the limelight as Ripple’s CEO drops a hint regarding the possible approval of an ETF before 2026. While top-altcoins like XRP dominate front-page headlines, revolutionary projects like Remittix are flying under the radar.
With a presale already exceeding $26 million and over 665 million tokens sold, Remittix (RTX) at $0.1080 per token is slowly starting to make its presence felt within the DeFi sector. Early adopters are watching closely as the project prepares for upcoming centralized exchange listings and a live beta wallet.

The XRP market is stable, with the coin trading at $3.12, up 3.32% in the past 24 hours. Market capitalization stands at $186.37 billion, supported by $7.34 billion trading volume, 62% day-on-day increase. While XRP is making headlines, Remittix presale is a sign of investors favoring projects that have real utility in the physical world.
Remittix DeFi project allows people to send cryptocurrency straight to the bank accounts of 30+ nations. It supports cross-chain with 40+ cryptocurrencies and 30+ fiat currencies, a sign of real-world use and not speculation.
Remittix recently achieved a $20 million presale milestone, which unlocked its doors to its first verified centralized exchange listing on BitMart. As it crossed over $22 million, the project announced LBank as its next exchange partner.
These announcements are key milestones towards higher liquidity and global accessibility for holders of RTX tokens. With each milestone, Remittix reinforces its profile, paving the way for adoption in mass numbers. These CEX listings are a part of rolling out strategically in order to offer convenient access for early adopters and create a broad exposure network.

Remains believed to be those of the Washington state man suspected of killing his three young daughters were found this week in a remote wooded area, authorities said Thursday.
Preliminary findings suggest the remains are those of Travis Decker, 32, whom authorities have been searching for more than three months. The remains were found south of the town of Leavenworth during a search, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said
A DNA analysis will be done, the office said.
Three weeks into the manhunt, authorities issued a lengthy statement casting doubt on whether Decker, a military veteran and National Guardsman whom the local sheriff described as a longtime outdoorsman, remained alive.
Officials said resources had been shifted to focus on finding Decker’s remains, presuming the likelihood of his death “increases every day.”
On June 10, officials said they believed they had tracked Decker to an area near the remote campsite where his daughters were found dead days earlier, roughly 130 miles east of Seattle.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the person was spotted by helicopter after a hiking party reported seeing someone who appeared unprepared for the trail and the weather and appeared to be avoiding others.
The sheriff’s office said the person ran from sight but was later tracked with dogs to a nearby trailhead.
Decker, whom his ex-wife described to authorities as homeless and experiencing mental health issues, had a planned visitation with their daughters a few days before their bodies were found.
When Decker did not return the girls and his ex-wife, Whitney Decker, could not reach him by phone, she filed a complaint that day with Wenatchee police, prompting a search that lasted through the weekend.
Evelyn, 8, Paityn, 9, and Olivia Decker, 5, were found June 2 near a campground where they also discovered Travis Decker’s white pickup truck.
They had been zip-tied and had plastic bags over their heads, a Wenatchee police detective wrote in an affidavit in support of an arrest warrant. A preliminary examination found that they most likely died of asphyxiation, the detective wrote.
Travis Decker’s unoccupied white pickup was found nearby with two bloody handprints on its tailgate, according to the affidavit.
Whitney and Travis Decker were married for seven years but divorced several years ago, according to the affidavit. Whitney Decker told the detective her ex-husband had always been communicative about their children and previously returned them when he was supposed to.
A parenting plan in effect since September 2024 required him to seek mental health treatment and domestic violence anger-management counseling, but he had not done so, the affidavit says.
A copy of the parenting plan shows that Travis Decker refused to sign it.
In the days after her girls were found dead, Whitney Decker called for reforms to the Amber alert system, which sends out text messages to all cellphones in areas where missing children have been reported. Local police sought to have an alert sent out the Friday before they were found dead, but the agency that manages the program in Washington state declined to do so.
A spokesman for the Washington State Patrol said the request did not meet strict criteria set by the U.S. Justice Department. A different alert sent that Saturday accomplished “much the same public notification/outreach as an AMBER alert would have,” he said.
Whitney Decker spoke publicly about her daughters’ killings for the first time in late June.
“They were incredible,” she told a crowd of thousands of mourners. “I truly hope that the legacy of the girls’ lives lives in everyone’s heart.”
